소형 교반식 저장건조빈의 벼 건조 및 저장 특성 (Drying and Storage Characteristics of Small Scale Accumulated / Stirred Storage and Drying Bin)

  • Not only does the labor of manufacturers used most in the drying process after rice harvest, but it also is having huge influence in quality. Also, because drying storage of rice production around the whole country is scarce with original facility, it has become a very important matter that farms develop their own safe and high-quality facilities to store and dry rice. Therefore, this study developed a small scale accumulated storage and drying bin, assessed nalyzed drying properties, and conducted analysis of research on the property of quality when storing for a long time. As a result, the drying speed of the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin was adequate of 0.042%/hr and was shown that the experimental static pressure and theoretical static pressure corresponded. Also, it was shown that drying cost was up to about 6 times inexpensive that heated air drying. For the storage of the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin, average of moisture content was around 16.5 until early April and decreased to 15.7% in July. Inside storage was maintained to 12.13% until early April and slightly increased to 14% after May. It was shown that inside storage had higher hardness and rate of cracking than the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin by storage conditions and germination rate was shown a little higher when stored in the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin.

곡물건조저장법 개선을 위한 농가용 Grain Bin에 관한 연구 (Study on the Small Grain Bin for the Improvement of Grain Drying and Storage)

  • Experimental work of grain bin was carried out to develop the methods of natural air in-bin drying and storage. The method is considered to be more economical, labour saving, and an effective countermeasure to grain loss. To examine the possibility of farm use of the grain bin and to analyze the related factors concerned with in-bin grain drying and storage, ambient air conditions (especially the change of air temperature and relative humidity) and grain quality during drying and storage periods were investigated. A laboratory model bin was constructed to investigate the effect of different forced air conditions on the drying characteristics of rice. In addition, a grain bin with 2.2m diameter and 1.8m height, considered to be the optimum size for the average Korean farm, was constructed and tested to examine the drying and storing characteristics of rice. The weather data analyzed in this study was the nine-year (from 1964 to 1972) record of air temperature and relative humidity in the Suweon area, and the thirty-year (from 1931 to 1960) record of pentad normal relative humidity and air temperature in the Seoul area. From the results of the weather data analyses, the adequate air delivery hours (which was arbitrary defined as the condition to give less than 75% relative humidity) to dry the rice during October were about nine hours (from approximately 10 A.M. to 7 P.M, ) a day, in which the average air temperature was about 15.9$^{\circ}C$ and average relative humidity was 66%. The occurence of days having three hours of such conditions was 1, 2, and 1-day within the 1st, 2nd add last 10-day periods for the month of October, respectively. Therefore, it may be considered that the weather condition in October was satisfactory for the forced natural air drying. The results of the laboratory model bin test were analyzed to obtain the drying curve and drying rate for different drying stages and grain layers in the bin corresponding to various conditions of forced natural air. A drying experiment with a prototype grain bin showed that an approximate 5 percent grain moisture gradient through a 1.6 meter grain deposit was observed after 80 hours of intermittent drying, giving an over dried zone in the lower grain layers and an extremely high grain moisture zone in the upper layers. This indicates that an effective measure should be taken to reduce this high moisture gradient. In order to investigate the drying characteristics of bulk grain in a layerturning operation a grain bin test was performed. This showed a significant improvement of uniform drying. In this test, approximate 107 hours were required to dry a depth of 1.6 meter of grain from an initial moisture content of 22.2 percent to a moisture content of 16.7 percent using an air delivery rate of 2.8 cubic meter per a minute per every cubic meter of grain. This resulted in a 2 percent moisture gradient from the top to the bottom of the bin. During storage period, till the end of June the average temperature of grain was 2~3$^{\circ}C$ higher than ambient air temperature. But during July when the grain moisture content went up slightly (less than 1 percent), the average temperature of the grain also increased to 3~5$^{\circ}C$ higher than ambient air temperature. It is therefore recommended that for safe grain storage, grain should not be stored in sheet metal bins after mid May. From the above results, in-bin rice drying and storage can be used effectively on Korean farms. It is strongly recommended that the use of grain-bin system should be implemented for farm use to improve farm drying and storage of rice.

  • A natural air in-bin grain dryer with a grain circulator was developed for on farm use. Natural air drying test for rough rice was carried out to evaluate drying rate, uniformity of moisture content distribution in grain bed and energy consumption. It took 10 days to dry 8 ton of paddy rice from 21.9%(w.b) to 16.7%(w.b) moisture contents using the prototype dryer. The average drying rate was 0.52%/day. The uniformity of moisture content after drying was superior to the conventional natural air dryer where is grains were not circulated during drying periods. The dryer performance evaluation index was 738.3KJ/(kg.water), which was more effective than that of grain circulation t)pe hot air dryer(3,500-5,000 KJ/kg.water).

  • This study was intended to develop a cost function for the natural air in-bin drying: system which could lead to an optimization of the drying system cost. Based on the cost function developed, a series of simulated drying tests were conducted with 10-year weather data (1970~1979) for 7 different regions by applying an appropriate levels of system factors. System performance factors treated in this study were initial moisture content, airflow rate, bin diameter and grain depth. An optimization procedure to find the least cost system was developed as follows: First, the worst year of the past decade was determined in consideration of the dryiang time and maximum dry matter loss. Second, the minimum airflow rate for a fixed bin diameter and grain depth was determined. Third, the optimum grain depth was found for the minimum airflow rate with different initial moisture contents and bin diameters. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. The optimization procedure developed in this study was able to reduce the time and efforts significantly. 2. Optimum values of drying parameters including airflow rate, grain depth, and fan size were determined for different initial moisture contents and bin diameters in each region. The results are shown in Tables 3 to 9. 3. Optimum grain depths decreased as the initial moisture content and airflow rate increased. 4. Drying time for the least cost system should be reduced with higher initial moisture content and lower drying potential to prevent grain spoilage. 5. The fixed cost was 65 to 75 percent of the total system cost and the variable cost was 25 to 35 percent. To reduce the fixed cost it is desirable to use a drying bin 2 or 3 times a year.

시뮬레이션에 의한 벼의 누적혼합 상온통풍건조의 송풍기 및 가열기의 운영방법에 관한 연구 (Fan and Heater Management Schemes for Layer Filling and Mixing Drying of Rough Rice with Natural Air by Simulation)

  • This study was performed to determine proper fan and heater management schemes for natural air drying of rough rice in round steel bin with stirring device under Korean weather conditions. A computer simulation model was developed to predict moisture content changes, energy requirements, and drymatter losses during drying of rough rice by natural air. Drying test was conducted to validate the simulation model using round steel bin of holding capacity of 300ton at Rice Processing Complex in Jincheon. The bin was filled with rough rice every day and mixing by stirring device. Moisture contents, ambient air temperatures, relative humidities, static pressures in plenum chamber in the bin, airflow rates, and electrical and fuel energy were measured. Relative errors of moisture content changes predicted by the simulation model were below 5ft, and relative errors of final moisture content, final grain weight, required energy ranged from 0.9% to 6%. These not levels indicated that the simulation model can satisfactorily predict the performance factors of natural air drying system such as drying rates and energr consumptions comparing error level of 10% to 15% in other drying simulation models generally used in dryer desists. Twelve different fan and heater management schemes were evaluated using the computer simulation model based on three hourly weather data from Suweon for the period of 1952-1994. The best management schemes were selected comparing the drymatter losses, required drying times, required energy consumptions. Operating fan without heating only when ambient relative humidity was below 85% or 90% appeared to be the most effective method of In operation in favorable drying weather. Under adverse drying climates or to reduce required drying time, operating fan continuously, and heating air with $1.5^{\circ}C$ temperature rise only when ambient relative humidity was over 85% appeared to be the most suitable method.

  • The-state-of-the-art of rice drying in the U.S.A. is presented. The U.S.A. is a minor producer but major exporter of rice. Head yield is its major criterion in evaluating rice quality . A decrease of 1 to 3 points in head yield can be expected to occur in a well-designed rice-drying system. Rice is dried on the farm in bins in the U.S. A., and n high-temperature continuous -flow dryers at the elevator level. Two relatively new rice-drying systems are discussed in some detail. : The top-bin/in -bin-counterflow bin-type on-farm dryer, and the concurrent-flow high-temperature elevator dryer.

  • 상온통풍에 의한 벼의 in-bin 건조에 있어서 건조시간, 에너지 소요량, 품질에 미치는 몇가지 건조조건(기후, 초기 수분함량, 벼의 수량 및 풍량)의 영향을 검토하였다. 철제 grain bin(지름 : 3.0m, 높이 : 5.0m) 네 개를 이용하여, 1981년 및 1982년에 각각 수확한 물벼를 그해 수확기에 건조하였을 때, 벼의 수분함유량$(19.2{\sim}25.5%\;W.b.)$, bin내에서의 벼의 높이$(1.1{\sim}3.5m)$ 그리고 풍량$(3.0{\sim}6.9m^3\;air/m^3\;paddy/min)$에 따라 건조에 소요되는 시일은 $5{\sim}17$일이었다. 이와같은 조건의 범위에서는 우리나타 벼수확기의 가을 기후는 벼의 in-bin 상온통풍 건조에 알맞았으며, 최종수분 함량, 도정수율, 쇄미율, 발아율, 지방산가 등의 품질에서도 아무런 문제도 없었으며, 종래의 고온건조방법과 비교했을 때 에너지 소요량과 에너지 비용도 대단히 낮았다.

  • 곡물 bin을 이용한 벼의 건조실험을 수행하여 상온통풍건조 시스템과 태양열 건조 시스템의 건조 특성을 비교하여 분석하였다. 태양열 건조의 시뮬레이션 모형에 대한 컴퓨터 프로그램을 개발하였으며 시뮬레이션 모형에 의한 함수율의 예측치는 실측치와 전체적으로 일치하였다. 또한, inverter를 사용하여 벼의 건조 상태에 따라 송풍량을 적절하게 제어하는 송풍량 제어 시스템을 개발하였으며, 개발된 송풍량 제어 시스템을 통하여 에너지 절약 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 곡물(穀物)의 천일(天日) 건조(乾燥)와 연료(燃料)를 열원(熱源)으로 하는 열풍(熱風) 건조(乾燥)의 문제점(問題點)을 보완(補完)하기 위(爲)한 시도(試圖)로서 구조(構造)가 간단(簡單)하고 제작비(製作費)가 저렴(低廉)한 평판(平板) 집열기(集熱機)와 튜브형(型) 집열기(集熱機)를 설계(設計) 제작(製作)하여 활용(活用)에 필요(必要)한 기초적(基礎的)인 것을 연구(硏究) 검토(檢討) 하였으며, 실제(實際) 곡물(穀物)을 grain bin에 넣고 집열기(集熱機)를 부착(附着)하였을 때 건조(乾燥) 효과(效果)를 구명(究明)하였던 바 그 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 1978년도(年度) 대전(大田) 지방(地方)의 일조(日照) 시수(時數)에 의(依)한 수평면(水平面) 일사량(日射量)은 5월(月)이 $16,814\;KJ/m^2{\cdot}day$로 가장 높았고 12월(月) $4,254\;KJ/m^2{\cdot}day$로 가장 낮았으며 기록치(記錄値)와 계산치(計算値)에 의(依)한 유의성(有意性)은 인정(認定)되지 않았다. 2. 곡물(穀物) 건조(乾燥) 기간(期間)(10월(月) 21일(日)${\sim}$28일(日))동안 오전(午前) 오후(午後) 두차례에 걸쳐 집열기(集熱機)의 효율(效率)을 산출(算出) 하였던 바, 일사량(日射量)이 클수록 효율(效率)도 높았으며 11${\sim}$12시(時)사이의 평판(平板) 집열기(集熱機)의 평균(平均) 효율(效率)은 28.12 로서 튜브형(型)의 16.75 보다 11.37 %가 높았다. 3. 건조(乾燥) 기간중(期間中) 12시(時)를 기준(基準)으로 한 grain bin 입구(入口)의 온도(溫度)는 대비구(對比區)가 20.02, 튜브형(型) 집열기(集熱機)에 연결(連結)된 grain bin이 40.5, 평판(平板) 집열기(集熱機)의 grain bin이 $55.1^{\circ}C$로서 큰 차이(差異)를 나타냈으며 grain bin내(內) 곡물(穀物) 추적(推積) 두께에 따른 온도(溫度) 변화(變化)에서 평판(平板) 집열기(集熱機)와 튜브형(型) 집열기(集熱機)의 grain bin은 곡물층(穀物層)이 두꺼울 수록 낮았으나 대비구(對比區)는 별차이(別差異)가 없었다. 4. 초기(初期) 수분(水分) 함량(含量)이 27.4%인 곡물(穀物)을 17.0%(생체중(生體中) 14.5%)까지 떨어 뜨리는데 25 cm 곡물(穀物) 두께에서 대비구(對比區)가 32, 튜브형(型)의 grain bin이 18, 평판(平板) 집열기(集熱機)의 grain bin이 11시간(時間)이 걸렸으며, 곡물(穀物) 추적(推積) 두께는 건조(乾燥) 속도(速度)에 커다란 영향(影響)을 미쳤고, 건조(乾燥) 특성(特性)은 초기(初期) 감률(減率) 건조기(乾燥期)를 걸쳐 항률(恒率) 건조기(乾燥期)로 되었다.
