This paper deals with the control of the lateral motion of a mobile vehicle. A mobile vehicle using in this experiment is able to adapt many unmanned automatic driving system, for example, like a automated product transporting system. This vehicle is consist of the two servomotors. One is used to accelerate this vehicle and the another is used to change this lateral direction. An adaptive fuzzy logic controller(AFLC) is designed and applied to a experimental mobile vehicle in order to achieve the control of the lateral direction. An adaptive fuzzy logic controller(AFLC) is designed and applied to a experimental mobile vehicle in order to achieve the control of the lateral motion of the vehicle. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is investigate the possibility of applying adaptive fuzzy control algorithms to a microprocessor-based servomotor controller which requires faster and more accurate response compared with many other industrial processes. Fuzzy control rules are derived by modelling an expert's driving actions. Experiments are performed using a mobile vehicle with sensing units, a microprocessor and a host computer.
It is very important to predict the future position for the heavy vehicle with evasive maneuvering. In this paper, we considered for the manual image tracking system. The vehicle images are received from gyro stabilized mirror system, pass through the optical lens, processed, and displayed on the TV monitor. The operator try to lay the reticle to the center of vehicle image. When the vehicle is moving, the mirror platform (actually the line of sight) should follow the vehicle and the angular rate information is picked up from the mirror stabilized system. This rate signal should be used to predict the future vehicle position. The problem is that the visual system of the human operator is in the closed loop system. The rate signals are disturbed by the operator. In addition, there are some non linearities concerned with the control handle bar and the servo control system. The proposed Kalman filter, combined with some modifications for operator disturbance rejection, improved the predication of the future vehicle position when compared with the conventional passive filter used.
This study considers the implementation issues of the inter-vehicle communication system for the vehicle platoon experiments via a testbed. The testbed, which consists of three scale vehicles and one RCS(remote control station), is developed as a tool for functions evaluation between simulation studies and full-sized vehicle researches in the previous study. The cooperative communication of the vehicle-to-vehicle or the vehicle-to-roadside plays a key role for keeping the relative spacing of vehicles small in a vehicle platoon. The static platoon control, where the number of vehicles remains constant, is sufficient for the information to be transmitted in the suitably fixed interval, while the dynamic platoon control such as merge or split requires more flexible network architecture for the dynamical coordination of the communication sequence. In this study, the wireless communication device and the reliable protocol of the flexible network architecture are implemented for our testbed, using the low-cost, ISM band transceiver and the 8-bit microcontroller.
Ubiquitous computing is a novel paradigm that is rapidly gaining in the scenario of wireless communications and telecommunications for realizing smart world. As rapid development of sensor technology, smart sensor system becomes more popular in automobile or vehicle. In this study, a new vehicle detection mechanism in real-time for blind spot area is proposed based on imaging sensors. To determine the position of other vehicles on the road is important for operation of driver assistance systems (DASs) to increase driving safety. As the result, blind spot detection of vehicles is addressed using an automobile detection algorithm for blind spots. The proposed vehicle verification utilizes the height and angle of a rear-looking vehicle mounted camera. Candidate vehicle information is extracted using adaptive shadow detection based on brightness values of an image of a vehicle area. The vehicle is verified using a training set with Haar-like features of candidate vehicles. Using these processes, moving vehicles can be detected in blind spots. The detection ratio of true vehicles was 91.1% in blind spots based on various experimental results.

The limited number of roads and the increasing number of vehicles demand the automatic regulation of overspeed vehicles, illegal vehicles, and overloaded vehicles and the automatic charge calculation depending on the type of the vehicle. To meet such requirements, it is important to remove the shadow of the vehicle as processing and recognizing an image captured by a camera. The shadow of the vehicle is likely to cause misclassification of the vehicle type due to diverse errors and mistakes occurring when detecting geometrical properties of the vehicle. In case that shadows of two different vehicles are overlapped, not only the type of the vehicles may be misclassified but also it is difficult to accurately identify the type of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose a robust algorithm to remove the shadow of a vehicle by calculating the luminance, the chrominance, the gradient density of the cast shadow from information acquired using the image subtraction of the background, and to recognize the substantial vehicle figure. Even when it is hard to detect and split a target vehicle from its shadow as shadows of vehicles are attached to each other, our robust algorithm can detect the vehicle figure only. We implemented our system with a general camera and conducted experiments on various vehicles on general roads to find out our vehicle shade removal algorithm is efficient when detecting and recognizing vehicles.
In this paper, we developed a vehicle condition monitoring system that checks vehicle conditions, and transmits and displays them to a driver for safety and effective maintenance. We used a CAN controller and transceiver to establish the CAN communication that has been used commonly inside an actual vehicle for the collection of vehicle's status information. To validate the operation of the developed system, we have confirmed the accuracy and stability of data transmission and reception of vehicle information.
