Best Combination of Binarization Methods for License Plate Character Segmentation

  • A connected component analysis from a binary image is a popular character segmentation method but occasionally fails to segment the characters owing to image noise and uneven illumination. A multimethod binarization scheme that incorporates two or more binary images is a novel solution, but selection of binarization methods has never been analyzed before. This paper reveals the best combination of binarization methods and parameters and presents an in-depth analysis of the multimethod binarization scheme for better character segmentation. We carry out an extensive quantitative evaluation, which shows a significant improvement over conventional single-method binarization methods. Experiment results of six binarization methods and their combinations with different test images are presented.

  • This paper proposes OPTICAL MARKER fer registering process - one of the 3D measurement process : scan registering - merging - measurement. If the registering work is carried out manually, it can be accompanied with much time and many errors. Because the patterned marker make registering process automatic, many firms use it now. But the physical shape of existing markers is the source of the data loss caused by hiding surface, and the marker arrangement is the source of the time loss. The optical marker proposed in this paper has marker generator, organized a large number of binary coded control laser diode, separate from 3D scan object. So, it does not take much time for the marker disposition, and it is not the origin of the data loss, and the binary coded laser information make the auto-registering possible.

Asymmetric Light curves of Contact and Near-Contact Binaries

  • We attempt to investigate the main reason of the asymmetrical light curves of contact and near-contact eclipsing binary base on the hypothesis that cool spot was produced on late type star while hot spot was produced from transferred material from their companion star hitting surface. We select 7 eclipsing binary systems which showed asymmetric light curves and mass transfer. Period variation and mass transfer rate were obtained from O-C diagram. Radial velocity curves and light curves of those 7 eclipsing binary system were adopted from available literature in order to obtain the absolute dimension. For four contact eclipsing binary system (AD Phe, EZ Hya, AG Vir and VW Boo), their component stars belonged to spectral type G to K was fitted by cool spot model. While the other two near-contact systems (RT Scl and V1010 Oph) and one contact system (SV Cen) was fitted by cool spot model. The densities of the materials are adopted from stellar model which calculate by stellar structure code. The calculated spot temperature turns out to agree with the photometric solution but there are no correlate between period variation rate and type of spot.

스트론튬과 세슘 이온의 혼합 몰비를 달리한 이성분 용액에서 제올라이트 A에 의한 경쟁 흡착: 흡착등온 및 속도해석 (Competitive Adsorption in Binary Solution with Different Mole Ratio of Sr and Cs by Zeolite A : Adsorption Isotherm and Kinetics)

  • The adsorption characteristics of Sr ions and Cs ions in single and binary solution by zeolite A were investigated in batch experiment. The adsorption rate of Sr ions and Cs ions by zeolite A obeyed pseudo-second-order kinetic model in single and binary solution. The initial adsorption rates (h) and adsorption capacities of both ions obtained from pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the values were decreased with increasing concentration of the competitive ions (0~1.5 mM). Also, adsorption isotherm data in binary solution were well fitted to the extended Langmuir model, the maximum adsorption capacities of Sr and Cs calculated from the model were 1.78 mmol/g and 1.64 mmol/g, respectively. The adsorption of Sr and Cs ions by zeolite A was carried out in the presence of other cations such as $Na^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$. The results showed that the zeolite A can maintain a relatively high adsorption capacity for Sr and Cs ions and exhibits a high selectivity in the presence of competitive cations. The effect of competition had an order of $Ca^{2+}$ > $K^+$ > $Mg^{2+}$ > $Na^+$ for Sr ions and $K^+$ > $Ca^{2+}$ > $Na^+$ > $Mg^{2+}$ for Cs ions at the same cation concentration.

실시간 Binary CDMA 모니터링을 통한 현금호송 보안업무 개선방안 (Improvement the Security Service of Cash Delivery Using Real-time Binary CDMA Monitoring)

  • 금융기관은 고객에게 보다 나은 서비스를 제공하기 위해 화폐 공급과 ATM과 같은 영업점 외 기기에 대한 현금보충 업무에 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이러한 업무의 대부분은 차량 이용을 중심으로 금융기관 직원이 직접 수행하거나 호송경비 전문업체에 아웃소싱을 하게 된다. 하지만 현금을 다루는 업무이기 때문에 범죄의 표적이 되기 쉬우며, 실제로 2003년부터는 여러 차례 현금호송차량 탈취사건이 발생하였다. 이러한 보안사고로 인한 피해 금액의 규모는 상당하며, 사회적 파장 또한 크기 때문에 금융기관 및 보안업체의 철저한 관리와 학계의 창의적 연구를 통한 위협 감소 노력이 필요하다. 이와 같은 관점에서 진행되고 있는 최근의 관련 연구들은 법 제도 및 관리상의 개선방안을 중심으로 하고 있으며, 기술적 측면의 논의는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 실시간 Binary CDMA 모니터링을 통해 현금호송 보안업무의 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다. 이 방법은 필요성이 높은 '무인경비'와 '모니터링' 항목의 실행도를 높일 수 있어, 실시간으로 진행되는 현금호송 보안업무를 보다 안전하게 추진할 수 있게 해준다.

전류 모드 CMOS를 이용한 4치 Hybrid FFT 연산기 설계 (Four-valued Hybrid FFT processor design using current mode CMOS)

  • 본 논문에서는 전류모드 CMOS의 기본회로를 이용해 다치 논리(Multiple-Valued Logic) 연산기를 설계하고자 한다. 우선, 2진(Binary)FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)를 확장해 다치 논리회로를 이용해서 고속 다치 FFT 연산기를 구현하였다. 다치 논리회로를 이용해서 구현한 FFT연산은 기존의 2치 FFT과 비교를 해 본 결과 상당히 트랜지스터의 수를 줄일 수 있으며 회로의 간단함을 알 수가 있었다. 또한, 캐리 전파 없는 가산기를 구현하기 위해서 {0,1,2,3}의 불필요한(Redundant) 숫자 집합을 이용한 양의 수 표현을 FFT회로에 내부적으로 이용하여 결선의 감소와 VLSI 설계시 정규성과 규칙성으로 효과적이다. FFT승산을 위해서는 승산기의 연산시간과 면적을 다치 LUT(Look Up Table)로 이용해 승산의 역할을 하였다. 마지막으로 이진시스템(Bin system)과의 호환을 위해 다치 하이브리드형 FFT 프로세서를 제시하여 2진4치 부호기와 4치 2진 복호기 및 전류모드 CMOS회로를 사용하여 상호 호환성을 갖도록 설계를 하였다.

컴퓨터로 빛의 간섭을 기록하는 홀로그램(CGH)의 특성 연구 (A study of the hologram which records the interference of light with computer)

  • 분 논문에서는 Lohmann 방법과 FFT (fast Fourier transform)를 사용하여 홀로그램을 제작하였다. 먼저 수학적으로 정의되는 물체의 $128{\times}128$로 표본화된 점들에 대한 복소 파면을 FFT 연산으로 구하였다. 그리고 Lohmann의 방법을 사용하여 각각의 표본점에 대한 복소 파면의 진폭과 위상을 홀로그램 정보로 바꾸었다. PC와 레이저 프린터를 용하여 홀로그램 도면을 그렸으며, 그 도면을 사진 축소하여 CGH(computer generated holograms) 필름을 제작하였다. 헬륨-네온 레이저와 역퓨리에 변환 광학계를 사용하여 수학적으로 정의되는 물체의 홀로그램 상을 재생하였다. $32{\times}32$, $64{\times}64$, $128{\times}128$의 표본수, random 위상의 적용 여부, 진폭 절단 및 CGH 필름의 표백 정도에 따라 변화하는 홀로그램 상의 특성을 조사하였다. 이 실험을 통하여 우수한 홀로그램 상을 재생할 수 있는 최적 조건과 홀로그램 상에서 스페클 잡음을 줄일 수 있는 최적 조건을 얻을 수 있었다. 2진 위상 홀로그램을 프로그램하기 위하여 Lohmann의 알고리즘을 MS Visual BASIC 6.0으로 구현하였다.

The first photometric analysis of the close binary system NSVS 1461538

  • The follow-up BVRI photometric observations of NSVS 1461538, which was discovered as an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr eclipsing variable by Hoffman, Harrison & McNamara (2009), were performed for three years from 2011 to 2013 by using the 61-cm telescope and CCD cameras of Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO). New light curves have deep depths both of the primary and secondary eclipses, rounded shapes outside eclipses and a strong O'Connell effect, indicating that NSVS 1461538 is a typical W UMa close binary system rather than an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr type binary star. A period study with all the timings shows that the orbital period may vary in a sinusoidal way with a period of about 5.6 yr and a small semi-amplitude of about 0.008 d. The cyclical period variation was interpreted as a light-time effect due to a tertiary body with a minimum mass of $0.66M{\odot}$. The first photometric solution with the Wilson-Devinney binary model shows that the system is a W-subtype contact binary with the mass ratio ($q=m_c/m_h$) of 3.46, orbit inclination of 85.6 deg and fill-out factor of 30%. From the existing empirical relationship between parameters, the absolute dimension was estimated. The masses and radii of the component stars are $0.28M{\odot}$ and $0.71R{\odot}$ for the less massive but hotter primary star, respectively, and $0.96M{\odot}$ and $1.21R{\odot}$ for the more massive secondary, respectively. Possible evolution of the system is discussed in the mass-radius and the mass-luminosity planes.

"우린 이대로가 좋아요!" -『애스펀의 편지』로 읽는 이리가라이식 여성성 ("We Like It Ourselves!": Reading Female Sexuality in The Aspern Papers)

  • This paper attempts an allegorical reading of female sexuality in Henry James' The Aspern Papers, wherein the narrator reveals his obsession with the love letters of the dead poet, Jeffrey Aspern. Not only the old papers, but does he also fetishize female protagonists in order to maintain his belief in the "great poet." Discussing such fetishistic elements in the novella is in order firstly to reveal the self-splitting logic of phallocentric language, and secondly to analyze the limitation of such language, which resonates with the Freudian construction of female sexuality as critically presented by Irigary. The first part of this study explains the binary structure of The Aspern Papers crystalized in the symbolic courtship in the Bordereaus' garden. It also represents the psychological mindset of the narrator/protagonist: symbolically located "outside," the narrator describes the two Bordereaus as being closed "inside" in a dark mansion, concealing the precious papers from him and the public. In other words, the women are nothing but the obstacle for the self-elected agent, the narrator, from the publication of the language and ideas of the "great man". The women are associated with secrecy and surreptitiousness, while the man with transparency and the truth. Second part of this paper mimics this In/Out binary as a means to reveal insufficiency, if not impropriety, of the predominant discourse of female sexuality constructed and controlled from the male perspective. Employing Irigary's argument, this paper reads the female characters as allegory for female sexual organs, which explains the narrator's inevitable failure. That is, female sexuality is something that cannot be articulated by the intruding language of a masculine subject. since the female sex as such is not only plural but also harmonious and self-contained,

Separation of Amino Acids by Simulated Moving Bed Using Competitive Langmuir Isotherm

  • The Separation of two amino acids, phenylalanine and tryptophan, was carried out using laboratory simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography. The SMB process consisted of four zones, with each zone having 2 columns. The triangle theory was used to obtain the operating conditions for the SMB. The mass transfer coefficients of the two amino acids were obtained from the best-fit values by comparing simulated and experimental pulse data. The competitive adsorption isotherms of the two amino acids were obtained by single and binary frontal analyses, taking into consideration the competition between the two components. A competitive Langmuir isotherm, obtained from single-component frontal chromatography, was used in the first run, and the isotherm from binary frontal chromatography in the second, with the flow rate of zone 1 modified to improve the purity. Compared to the first and second runs, the competitive Langmuir isotherm from the binary frontal chromatography Showed good agreement with the experimental results. Also, adjusting the flow rate in zone 1 increased the purity of the products. The purities of the phenylalanine in the raffinate and the tryptophan in the extract were 99.84 and $99.99\%$, respectively.
