  • This paper presents a new adaptive impulse noise cancelling technique based on the adaptive nonlinear suppressing function. The proposed "adaptive threshold algorithm (ATA)" is controlled by the normalized power prior input data term, and this adaptive threshold makes the cancelling system highly robust against additive impulse noise. For the performance evaluation, we have tested the proposed algorithm with the observed signals simulated in various impulsive noise environments and real EMG signals. As a result the proposed algorithm shows superior performance of 51.7% to the available techniques in the points of SNR and MSE.

  • Images are often corrupted by noises during signal acquisition and transmission. Among those noises, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and impulse noise are most representative. For different types of noise have different characters, how to remove them separately from degraded image is one of the most fundamental problems. Thus, a modified image restoration algorithm is proposed in this paper, which can not only remove impulse noise of random values, but also remove the AWGN selectively. The noise detection step is by calculating the intensity difference and the spatial distance between pixels in a mask. To divide two different noises, the method is based on three weighted parameters. And the weighted parameters in the filtering mask depend on spatial distances, positions of impulse noise and standard deviation of AWGN. We also use the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to evaluate restoration performance, and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional median-type filters, in preserving edge details.

  • Currently, with the rapid development of the digital age, multimedia-related image devices become popular. However, images are susceptible to corruption in processing image data due to the impulse noise and active researches have been conducted to restore these images. This paper, in order to restore the damaged images in impulse noise environments, suggested an image restoration algorithm which applies weights depending on spatial distance between directionality and pixel by focusing on damaged pixels. Additionally, this algorithm was compared with existing methods by using the PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) as the objective standard to judge whether there were improved effects.

  • In the transmitting process of image signal processing system, there are several different causes of degradation that have been occuring. The main cause of degradation is attributed to the noise. The most representive method of removing noise of image, which is caused by impulse noise environment, is using the SM filter. At edge, the filter has a special feature which has a tendency to decrease. As a result, we proposed a nonlinear filter using the form of mask and the probability of the impulse noise to restore the image considering edge quality in the impulse noise environment. And through the simulation, we compared with the existings and capabilities.

  • According to the increase of demand for diverse multimedia services, techniques to use images as the tool of information transmission have been rapidly developed. However, impulse noise affecting the reception of image and signal error occurs in the process of digitalization and transmission of images. In order to remove this impulse noise, a nonlinear filter is generally applied and a standard median (SM) filter is representative. However, SM filter degrades the qualify of overall image by error of the edge component. Therefore, in this paper, to restore the corrupted image by impulse noise, a nonlinear spatial filter based on Min-max operation was proposed and was compared with conventional methods through simulations.

  • For edge detection methods, there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and Canny edge detector, and these methods have insufficient detection characteristics in the image corrupted by the impulse noise. Therefore in this paper, in order to improve these disadvantages of the previous methods and to effectively detect the edge in the impulse noise environment, using the $5{\times}5$ mask, the noise factors within the $3{\times}3$ mask based on the central pixel is determined, and depending on its status, for noise-free it is processed as is, and if noise is found, by obtaining the estimated mask using the adjacent pixels of each factor, an algorithm that detects the edge is proposed.

  • Digital image processing has been applied in a wide range of fields due to the development of IoT technology and plays an important role in data processing. Various techniques have been proposed to remove such noise, but the conventional impulse noise canceling methods are insufficient to remove noise of edge components of an image, and have a disadvantage of being greatly affected by random impulse noise. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that effectively removes edge component noise in random impulse noise environment. The proposed algorithm calculates the threshold value by determining the noise level and switches the filtering process by comparing the reference value with the input pixel value. The proposed algorithm shows good performance in the existing method, and the simulation results show that the noise is effectively removed from the edge of the image.

  • In the process of the acquisition, storage, transmission of signals, noises are generated by various causes and the degradation phenomenon by noises tends to generate serious errors for the signal with information. So, in order to analyze and remove these noises, studies on numerous mathematical methods such as the Fourier transform have been implemented. And recently there have been many ongoing wavelet-based denoising algorithms representing excellent characteristics in time-frequency localization and multiresolution analysis, but the method to remove additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and the impulse noise simultaneously was not given. So, to reconstruct the corrupted signal by noises, in this paper a novel wavelet-based denoising algorithm was proposed and using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) this method was compared to conventional methods.

  • As the society develops to advanced digital information times, many studies are underway about digital video processing technology areas such as image restoration. There are typical methods to restore the image which have been damaged by the impulse noise like SM(standard median) filter and CWM(center weighted median) filter. These filters show excellent noise reduction capabilities in low noise density areas, but in high noise density areas, noise reduction capabilities are not sufficient. In this paper, in order to restore the degraded images in impulse(Salt & Pepper) noise environment, the image restoration filter algorithm was suggested which expands and subdivide the mask focusing on damaged pixels. And to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm used PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) as the standard of judgement.

  • An adaptive estimation system which operates propoerly in the environments corrupted by additive impulse noise in addition to the white Gaussian noise has been proposed. A feed forward loop is inserted into the adaptive estimator proposed by R. L. Moose for a system with an unknown measurement bias by which the improved adaptive estimator is processed successfully without the sum of the time varying weights being zero even when the measurement system is added impulue noise. Successfully processed adaptive estimator has been obtained under the large impulse noise in addition to randomly varying unknown biases condition by giving sufficient large value to the elements of discrete vector on the computer simulation.
