  • This study determines the implementation status of the improvement being made to Korean university libraries. An e-mail survey was conducted targeting 24 Korean university libraries. Conclusions after analysing the responses of the survey were as follows:(1) 24 university libraries implemented 88 different methods of operating their libraries. In other words each library implemented an average 3.67 different methods operating.(2) Twelve universities initiated their improvement schemes in 2008, ten universities initiated their improvement schemes in 2007, nine universities initiated their improvement schemes in 2005, eight universities initiated their improvement schemes in 2010 and seven universities initiated their improvement schemes in 2009. Most university libraries implemented their improvement after 2005.(3) Most university libraries improvement schemes entailed online tours, special events, personal customized services, and SMS services. We noted that online reference services such as the Wiki Service, Twitter, Facebook, Cyworld were not initiated.

  • In 2004, Yang et al. proposed a threshold proxy signature scheme that efficiently reduced the computational complexity of previous schemes. In 2009, Hu and Zhang presented some security leakages of Yang's scheme and proposed an improvement to eliminate the security leakages that had been pointed out. In this paper, we will point out that both Yang and Hu's schemes still have some security weaknesses, which cannot resist warrant attacks where an adversary can forge valid proxy signatures by changing the warrant $m_w$. We also propose two secure improvements for these schemes.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate farmer's general contents on the current direct payment schemes and to derive some improvement measures, based on the survey data for the three types of direct payment schemes currently executed in Korea; Rice Farmer's Income Support, Early Retirement Aged Farmer's Support and Less Favored Area Direct Payment. In recent years we have introduced diverse direct payment schemes that are expected to have immediate effects in a short term period without enough preparation of the policy, which raises some contradiction between the agricultural policy and the original purpose of the direct payments. The result shows some important revisions should be made related the direct payment schemes, such as farmer's income stability through the improvement of unit payment and the payment length jointed with criteria of the payment, in addition to keeping up multifunctionality of agriculture and enhancing the effect of structural adjustment in agriculture.

  • We focus on the improvement in the simulation of sea surface wind over complex coastal area located in the southeastern Korea. In this study, it was carried out sensitivity experiment based on PBL schemes and dynamic frame of MM5 and WRF. Two widely used PBL parameterization schemes were chosen : Medium-Range Forecast (MRF) and Mellor-Yamada-Janjic (MYJ). Thereafter, two cases of sea fog days with weak wind speed and typhoon days with strong wind speed were simulated and analyzed. The result of experiments indicated that wind fold of WRF model was shown more similar distribution with observational data, compared with that of MM5. Simulation of sea surface wind during sea fog days with weak wind speed and typhoon days with strong wind speed were shown similar horizontal distribution with observational data using MYJ and MRF PBL schemes of WRF model, respectively. Horizontal distribution of sea surface wind was more sensitive according to dynamic frame and PBL Schemes of model during sea fog days and typhoon days, respectively.

  • The convergence analysis of adavtive control schemes has been studied over the past decades, but the importance of structure to fast conversgece of adaptive control systems is still a controversial issue. This paper deals with the relative improvement of the exponential rate of convergence in adaptive error models. The Lyapunov's direct method is applied to adaptive control systems in order to improve the convergence rate by modifying the feedback structure of the error systems. Some simulation examples are illustrated to show fast convergence and robustness of these schemes.

  • This paper presents the design schemes for the improvement of force characteristics in Controlled permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (CPMLSM). The dependence of motor performance on various design schemes, such as the slot shapes, magnetizing patterns of PM and skewing, have been investigated in detail by using FEM and experiment. From this study, it is known that in the various design schemes, skewing is most efficient in the aspects of force characteristic, efficiency and force density.

  • This paper presents antenna selection schemes for recently proposed quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems. The antenna selection strategy is based on Euclidean distance optimized antenna selection (EDAS). The symbol error rate (SER) performance of these schemes is compared with that of the corresponding algorithm associated with spatial modulation (SM) systems. It is shown through simulations that QSM systems using EDAS offer significant improvement in terms of SER performance over SM systems with EDAS. Their SER performance gains are seen to be about 2 dB-4 dB in $E_s/N_0$ values.

  • Declustering and parallel index structures are important research areas to improve a performance of databases. Previous researches proposed several distribution schemes for parallel R-trees, however there is no search schemes to be suitable for the index. In this paper, we propose schemes to improve the performance of range queries for distribute parallel indexes. The proposed schemes use the features that a parallel disk can read multiple nodes from various disks. The proposed schemes are verified using various implementations and performance evaluations. We propose new schemes which can read multiple nodes from multiple disks in contrast that to the previous schemes which can read a node from disk. The experimental evaluation shows that the proposed schemes give us the performance improvement by 40% from the previous researches.

  • Social infrastructures have been built when the growth of economy in Korea significantly increases in 1960s. Nowadays, these infrastructures have been aged with an inappropriate maintenance and management and the citizens have rare recognition for human disasters. In addition, the government has law or regulations responding to human disasters but these are not complementary. Since these human disasters have been issued as social problems and have induced social and economic loss, the improvement schemes for human disasters are currently being demanded. In this study, the case histories of damages and improvement schemes with respect to the types of damages for human disasters are comprehensively investigated.

  • IEEE 802.11 defines distributed coordination function (DCF), which is characterized by CSMA/CA and binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm. Most modifications on DCF so far have focused on updating of the contention window (CW) size depending on the outcome of own frame transmission without considering freezing periods experienced in the backoff interval. We propose two simple but novel schemes which effectively utilize the number of freezing periods sensed during the current backoff interval. The proposed schemes can be applied to DCF and its family, such as double increment double decrement (DIDD). Saturation throughput of the proposed schemes is analyzed by means of Bianchi's Markovian model. Computer simulation validates the accuracy of the analysis. Numerical results based on IEEE 802.11b show that up to about 20% improvement of saturation throughput can be achieved by combining the proposed scheme with conventional schemes when applied to the basic access procedure.
