In this study, the fatigue property of U rib-to-crossbeam connections in orthotropic steel bridge (OSB) crossbeams under heavy traffic vehicle load was investigated considering the effects of in-plane shear stress. The applicability of an improved structural stress (ISS) method was validated for the fatigue behavior analysis of nonwelded arc-shaped cutout regions in multiaxial stress states. Various types of fatigue testing specimens were compared for investigating the equivalent structural stress, fatigue crack initiation positions, and failure modes with the unified standards. Furthermore, the implications of OSB crossbeams and specified loading cases are discussed with respect to the improved method. The ISS method is proven to be applicable for analyzing the fatigue property of nonwelded arc-shaped cutout regions in OSB crossbeams. The used method is essential for gaining a reliable prediction of the most likely failure modes under a specific heavy traffic vehicle load. The evaluated results using the used method are proven to be accurate with a slighter standard deviation. We obtained the trend of equivalent structural stress in arc-shaped cutout regions and validated the crack initiation positions and propagation directions by comparing them with the fatigue testing results. The implications of crossbeam spans on fatigue property are less significant than the effects of crossbeams.

The recently developed Harmonic Polynomial Cell (HPC) method has been proved to be a promising choice for solving potential-flow Boundary Value Problem (BVP). In this paper, a flux method is proposed to consistently deal with the Neumann boundary condition of the original HPC method and enhance the accuracy. Moreover, fixed mesh algorithm with free surface immersed is developed to improve the computational efficiency. Finally, a two dimensional (2D) multi-block strategy coupling boundary-fitted mesh and fixed mesh is proposed. It limits the computational costs and preserves the accuracy. A fully nonlinear 2D numerical wave tank is developed using the improved HPC method as a verification.
In the previous study, the inverse perturbation method was used to identify structural damages. Because all unmeasured DOFs were considered as unknown variables, considerable computational effort was required to obtain reliable results. Thus, in the present study, a system condensation method is used to transform the unmeasured DOFs into the measured DOFs, which eliminates the remaining unmeasured DOFs to improve computational efficiency. However, there may still arise a numerically ill-conditioned problem, if the system condensation is not adequate for numerical Programming or if the system condensation is not recalibrated with respect to the structural changes. This numerical problem is resolved in the present study by adopting more accurate accelerated improved reduced system (AIRS) as well as by updating the transformation matrix at every step. The criterion on the required accuracy of the condensation method is also proposed. Finally, numerical verification results of the present accelerated inverse perturbation method (AIPM) are presented.

Growth-strain method was used for shape optimization of general structures. It was verified that the growth-strain method is very effective for shape optimization of solid structures in previous papers, but It could not provide reasonable optimized shape for structures with holes inside. The purpose of this study is to improve the growth-strain method for shape optimization of two- and three- dimensional structures. In order to improve, the problems occurred as the growth-strain method was applied to general structures were examined, and then the improved method was suggested. Finally, an automatic shape optimization system was built up by the improved growth-strain method with finite element method. The effectiveness and practicality of the developed shape optimization system was verified by some examples.

A structural coupling method is developed for the dynamic analysis of a nonlinear structure with concentrated nonlinear hinge joints or sliding lines. Component mode synthesis method is extended to couple substructures and the nonlinear models. In order to verify the improved coupling method, a numerical plate model consisting of two substructures and torsional springs, is synthesized by using the proposed method and its model parameters are compared with analysis data. Then the coupling method is applied to a three-substructure-model with the nonlinearity of sliding lines between the substructures. The coupled structural model is verified from its dynamic analysis. The analysis results show that the improved coupling method is adequate for the structural nonlinear analyses with the nonlinear hinge and sliding mode condition.

In this paper, an Improved Dimension Reduction(IDR) method is proposed for uncertainty quantification that employes Kriging interpolation technic. It has been acknowledged that the DR method is accurate and efficient for assessing statistical moments and reliability due to the sensitivity free feature. However, the DR method has a number of drawbacks such as instability and inaccuracy for problems with increased nonlineality. In this paper, improved DR is implanted by three steps. First, the Kriging interpolation method is used to accurately approximate the responses. Second, 2N+1 and 4N+1 ADOEs are proposed to maintain high accuracy of the method for UQ analysis. Third, numerical integration scheme is used with accurate but free response values at any set of integration points of the surrogated model.
In this paper, an effective skeleton method is proposed in order to obtain an enhanced digital image of skeleton line. The edge-detection method is applied in the preprocessing stage and after that, the modified Parallel method is applied to obtain the improved image of skeleton line. The existing parallel methods are Zhang, Lu and Wang, and Paul methods. Firstly, a parallel process method Is applied, and the proposed method is applied that the original is compared with the four neighbor pixels and four corner pixels of mask. In conclusion, the proposed method shows an improved connectivity and quality of skeleton line.

In this paper, we develop the optimal path planning algorithm using the improved Dijkstra algorithm and the particle swarm optimization. To get the optimal path, at first we construct the MAKLINK on the world environment and then make a graph associated with the MAKLINK. The MAKLINK is a set of edges which consist of the convex set. Some of the edges come from the edges of the obstacles. From the graph, we obtain the Dijkstra path between the starting point and the destination point. From the optimal path, we search the improved Dijkstra path using the graph. Finally, applying the particle swarm optimization to the improved Dijkstra path, we obtain the optimal path for the mobile robot. It turns out that the proposed method has better performance than the result in [1] through the experiment.
This work introduces a fault diagnosis method for transformer based on self-powered radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor tag and improved Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT). Consisted by RFID tag chip, power management circuit, MCU and accelerometer, the developed RFID sensor tag is used to acquire and wirelessly transmit the vibration signal. A customized power management including solar panel, low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator, supercapacitor and corresponding charging circuit is presented to guarantee constant DC power for the sensor tag. An improved band restricted empirical mode decomposition (BREMD) which is optimized by quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (QPSO) algorithm is proposed to deal with the raw vibration signal. Compared with traditional methods, this improved BREMD method shows great superiority in reducing mode aliasing. Then, a promising fault diagnosis approach on the basis of Hilbert marginal spectrum variations is brought up. The measured results show that the presented power management circuit can generate 2.5V DC voltage for the rest of the sensor tag. The developed sensor tag can achieve a reliable communication distance of 17.8m in the test environment. Furthermore, the measurement results indicate the promising performance of fault diagnosis for transformer.
For the safe and stable operation of the power system, accurate wind power prediction is of great significance. A wind power prediction method based on empirical mode decomposition and improved extreme learning machine is proposed in this paper. Firstly, wind power time series is decomposed into several components with different frequency by empirical mode decomposition, which can reduce the non-stationary of time series. The components after decomposing remove the long correlation and promote the different local characteristics of original wind power time series. Secondly, an improved extreme learning machine prediction model is introduced to overcome the sample data updating disadvantages of standard extreme learning machine. Different improved extreme learning machine prediction model of each component is established. Finally, the prediction value of each component is superimposed to obtain the final result. Compared with other prediction models, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed prediction method has better prediction accuracy for wind power.
