  • This study investigates empirically the export competitiveness of Korea and Japan in America by calculating 4 indexes such as market share index(MSI), export similarity index(ESI), market comparative adventage index(MCAI) and market share expansion ratio(MSER)-export similarity deepening ratio(ESDR). The empirical finding of this analysis shows that Korea is competitive in the labor-intensive products and Japan in the technology-intensive products. This result also meets the general understandings that Japan is superior to Korea in the export competitiveness such as value added of goods, etc. Therefore, in order to strengthen the export competitiveness of Korea in the US market, it's desirable for our firms and government to improve the quality of product ranges by developing technologies focused on the higher value-added products.

  • With WTO system starting since 1995, the international trade business has been getting more competitive and fairer especially with the agreement on subsidies and countervailing measures. The export credit insurance, as the only institution of supporting export business under WTO system, is getting more significant in major economies as an indirect means to support export business. In China, SINOSURE has been monopolizing its export credit insurance market for a long time. Since January 2013, however, the Chinese government permitted several commercial insurers to compete in the market and they include PICC, PING AN, CPIC, China Re. This study is to discuss how to improve the Chinese export credit insurance after analyzing performance of privatization of short-term credit insurance and real cases of success and failures. With the 'Go Global' and 'One Belt, One Road' policy of Chinese government, the role of export credit insurance is expected to be more significant. Thanks to the Korea-China FTA since December 2015, international trade between the two countries will be greater especially in finance and insurance area. Because Korean insurance industry is very much interested in getting into Chinese export credit insurance market, they need to study carefully the performance of privatization of Chinese short-term export credit insurance. For their policy decision makings the Korean authorities need to get lessons from the privatization of Chinese short-term export credit insurance business.

  • The paper aims to investigate the impact of trade cost on export: A Case Study Vietnam. The study conducts a static linear panel data analysis on annual data covering bilateral export between Vietnam and 70 major importers of Vietnam from 2001 to 2013. The gravity model has been one of the most successful applications in empirical trade. In this paper we apply the gravity model to estimate the impact of trade cost on Vietnamese bilateral export value. The paper uses gravity model to estimate the impact of trade cost on Vietnamese bilateral export value. The empirical results derive from a static linear panel data analysis (fixed effects model) indicates that trade cost plays a crucial role in determining the export value that occurs between Vietnam and trading partners. Besides, population of importing country, trade openness of importing country, gross domestic product of importing country and gross domestic product of Vietnam are also significant determinants of Vietnamese bilateral export value. The main findings indicates that trade cost plays a very important role in the Vietnamese bilateral export performance. This suggests that the Vietnamese government should attempt to improve domestic trade costs to enhance competitiveness and increase export growth sustainably.

  • For venturing into international markets, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have not only emphasized internal resources but entrepreneurial orientation has also become the need of the day due to its significant role in increasing firm's competitive capabilities. Although research indicates that the competitive strategies can significantly impact export performance, minor attention is given to the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation, business competitive strategy and export performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This study scrutinizes the effect of each dimension of entrepreneurial orientation (i.e., innovativeness, risk-taking, and proactiveness) and each of generic competitive strategies (i.e., cost leadership and differentiation) on the export performance of Chinese SMEs. And we investigated the moderating effect of entrepreneurial orientation on the relationship between the competitive strategies and export performance. We surveyed 217 Chinese SMEs through a structured questionnaire. For the data analysis and hypotheses testing, we used AMOS. 27. The findings display that differentiation and cost leadership strategies significantly improve export performance. The innovativeness, risk-taking and proactiveness also spur Chinese SME's export performance. Further we find that adding entrepreneurial orientation significantly improves our model of the relationship between the competitive strategies and export performance. Thus, our study extends the entrepreneurial orientation literature and provides interesting new insights into how entrepreneurial orientation helps firms create more successful export operations.

However its export is very limited. This study reviews the literature related to e-government, and analyze existing Korean e-government export. The results of this analysis are as follows: lack of a law related e-government export, decentralized organizations, insufficient export process, lack of e-government solution for sale, limited funds, deficiency of cooperation between large and small enterprises. This study suggests a strategic approach such as to clarify the purpose of e-government export, to decide government or civilian-oriented export, to establish driving strategy, to improve and develop e-government export related areas. There are many ways for improvement and development of e-government export as follows: to enact a basic law or to revise the e-government law, to integrate functions of separated organizations and establish control tower, to improve export process, to build information sharing system, to develop standardized solution module, and to expand fund to support. The author expects that this paper will contribute to enhance Korean e-government export.

Research design, data and methodology: The study uses data of seven main destination countries of Indonesian processed seaweed from 2010 to 2019. For competitiveness analysis, the study uses Revealed Comparative Advantage, Export Product Dynamics, and X-Model of Potential Export Product. Results: The study reveals that the export performance has decreased on all five countries except for Japan and USA. The X-Model analysis shows that the market classification has increased or been stable in every country except for Germany and France. GDP per capita of each destination country and competitiveness index have positive and significance effect while other factors have negative and significance effect. Conclusions: In 2019, Indonesia's processed seaweed market in Japan, United States, and France are on potential market, while Singapore and Italy are on optimistic market. In the future, Indonesia's processed seaweed export can be focused more on countries that have a good market potential. To improve the export volume, GDP per capita of destination country, and competitiveness index of Indonesian processed seaweed should be higher, while export price, economic distance, and real exchange rate should be lower.
