  • The laser reflexion method is a new technique which permits precise contactless measurement and observation of tooth mobility as well as tooth movement. The purposes of this study were to clarify the reliability of the laser reflexion method in clinical application and to measure the abutment tooth movement according to clasp design. This study was designed to determine 1) How much a bending movement of the impression plate stand affects the position of the reflexion pattern and how precise the patient bites into plate 2) Which clasp design causes greater movement of the abutment tooth. Under medium and maximum bite forces, tests were performed on central loading position which was 13mm distal to terminal abutment tooth of distal extension removable partial denture. The movement in the mesiodistal and buccolingual directions was measured. The Duncan's New Multiple-Range test was used to compare the means for the four castings under each direction-load combination; and the paired sample t-test was for medium and maximum bite forces. From this experiment, the following results were obtained. 1. The Roach clasp, the combination clasp, the RPI clasp, and the Akers clasp did not significantly differ in their effects on buccolingual movement of the abutment tooth. 2. The direction of abutment tooth movement was not significantly altered by clasp design and all abutment tooth movements were oriented distobuccally. 3. Under medium bite force, the Akers clasp caused greater distal movement of the abutment tooth than did the combination clasp and the RPI clasp. Under maximum bite force, the Akers clasp caused greater distal movement of the abutment tooth than did the RPI clasp. 4. The testing apparatus and procedures used in this study(laser reflexion method) proved to be reliable in clinical application.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to fabricate provisional crowns at varying build directions using the digital light processing (DLP)-based 3D printing and evaluate the marginal and internal fit of the provisional crowns using the silicone replica technique (SRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS. The prepared resin tooth was scanned and a single crown was designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Provisional crowns were printed using a DLP-based 3D printer at 6 directions (120°, 135°, 150°, 180°, 210°, 225°) with 10 crowns in each direction. In total, sixty crowns were printed. To measure the marginal and internal fit, a silicone replica was fabricated and the thickness of the silicone impression material was measured using a digital microscope. Sixteen reference points were set and divided into the following 4 groups: marginal gap (MG), cervical gap (CG), axial gap (AG), and occlusal gap (OG). The measurements were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Dunnett T3. RESULTS. MG, CG, and OG were significantly different by build angle groups (P<.05). The MG and CG were significantly larger in the 120° group than in other groups. OG was the smallest in the 150° and 180° and the largest in the 120° and 135° groups. CONCLUSION. The marginal and internal fit of the 3D-printed provisional crowns can vary depending on the build angle and the best fit was achieved with build angles of 150° and 180°.

  • To analyze the characteristics of Orientalism which is expressed in the fashion of the 1990's this study was examined according to three aspects such as form textiles and pattern and the aspects was considered with regard to Chinese Indian Japanese Korean, Southeas Asian and North African style. 1. In form Orientalism which is influenced by latest other fashion trend; Naturalism and Minimalism is expressed as a comfortable casual style which simplifies the way of wearing and mixes the characteristic elements of folk costume with western costume. The way of layerd wearing like knotting wrapping draping and the symbolic from which is inspired by the unique are of each country are shown. 2. In textiles Chinese Japanese and Indian silk as well as Southeast Asian and North African cotton show a splendid oriental impression using vivid color. On the other hand the linens of Korea like hemp and ramie emphasize natural characteristics and show a simple and unartificial oriental beauty. But in the use of material and color it shows a remarkable tendency to break the preconceived idea by coordinating a luxurious silk with a practical denim or harmonizing technical new-masterials with traditional materials. 3. In pattern the decorative elements of Orientalism such as a traditional pattern skills to dye embroidery and other decorations are emphasized on the form of western costume. The sketchy patterns of Chinese Korean and Japanese styles which include the pattern of a flower a bamboo and a butterfly are expressed using embroidery or textile printing. The geometrical seriate patterns of Southeast Asian and North African styles use traditional dyeing methods like Batik. Also the Indian technique of decoration like Mirro Work satisfies handcrafted royalty and feminine romantic taste in modern minimal fashion. The Orientalism expressed in the fashion of 1990's emphasizes the characteristics of people wearing colthing which break the preconceived idea by simplifying the form harmonizing differences between oriental and western cultures and mixing the elements of traditional costumes among countries.

  • This study examined ornamental metals used as architectural members among metal artifacts excavated from ancient Buddhist temples and palaces in Korea. Through this, we approached the decorative characteristics of ancient architecture eaves. 1. The decorations used in eaves of Korean ancient architecture include roof-end tiles and ornamental metal. Through excavation examples, the technique of attaching ornamental metal to the rafters and corner rafters of high-ranking architectures in the 7th and 8th centuries (ornamental metal for rafter end, ornamental metal for corner rafter end), and tosu iron in the 10th century It seems to be fashionable. 2. Several buildings were built in ancient Buddhist temples and palaces. At this time, they differentiated ornamental metal according to the hierarchy of the building. The higher the hierarchy, the greater the difference in the number of ornamental metal installations, materials, and decoration techniques. In addition, ornamental metal used in eaves is an important factor in the discrimination of the times as the type, number of members, and patterns change depending on the era. 3. The great feature of the eaves metal decoration excavated in the 7th and 8th centuries is the attachment of ornamental metal to the rafters and horsetails. This seems to create a sense of grandeur by removing the weight of the roof and giving the impression constructed regardless of gravity by supporting it with non-material materials.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal gaps of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr copings, fabricated using the dental ${\mu}-SLA$ system. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ten study dies were made using a two-step silicone impression with a dental stone (type IV) from the master die of a tooth. Ni-Cr (NC group) and Co-Cr (CC group) alloy copings were designed using a dental scanner, CAD software, resin coping, and casting process. In addition, 10 Ni-Cr alloy copings were manufactured using the lost-wax technique (LW group). The marginal and internal gaps in the 3 groups were measured using a digital microscope ($160{\times}$) with the silicone replica technique, and the obtained data were analyzed using the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test. Post-hoc comparisons were performed using Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The mean (${\pm}$ standard deviation) values of the marginal, chamfer, axial wall, and occlusal gaps in the 3 groups were as follows: $81.5{\pm}73.8$, $98.1{\pm}76.1$, $87.1{\pm}44.8$, and $146.8{\pm}78.7{\mu}m$ in the LW group; $76.8{\pm}48.0$, $141.7{\pm}57.1$, $80.7{\pm}47.5$, and $194.69{\pm}63.8{\mu}m$ in the NC group; and $124.2{\pm}52.0$, $199.5{\pm}71.0$, $67.1{\pm}37.6$, and $244.5{\pm}58.9{\mu}m$ in the CC group. CONCLUSION. The marginal gap in the LW and NC groups were clinically acceptable. Further improvement is needed for CC group to be used clinical practice.
