  • Owner's participation on a construction project can alter the success of a construction project. In general, success of a construction project is measured by project schedule and cost decrease without considering the role an owner has in a project. As a result, this research developed a framework for the project evaluation form and after extracting a total of 9 project critical success factors (CSF) and 27 sub-CSF. AHP method was utilized to evaluate the importance factor of each CSFs. Setting a goal for each CSFs at the beginning of a project and comparing the values at the completion of the project utilizing the project evaluation form will allow a systematic evaluation and management of a project. Solution Map was introduced and Solution Tool was suggested in order to utlize the evaluation results effectively. In the future studies, various project cases needs to be supplemented for further verification and a solution based on the evaluation result needs to be developed that can be applied to construction projects.

  • Selection index methods were applied to selecting better performing rice varieties with better plant characters from rice yielding trials tested under six different cultural methods. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Varieties such as NO. 3, 4, 5 and 6 were selected as best performing varieties with good plant and grain characters. 2. Selection index I computed from Hazel's method was appeared effective for selecting rice varieties grown under general optimum environmental conditions, while selection index II computed from Pesek and Baker's desired genetic gain were effective for selecting rice varieties grown under rather stressed conditions. 3. The rank of mean yield of each variety was not completely in agreement with that of index values, which indicates the importance of other characters besides yield in selecting varieties. 4. Most characters studied were high in broad sense of heritabilities. 5. No significant interaction was found between varieties and cultural methods.

  • In this study we evaluated genetic divergence among six Tongil-type rice varieties and assessed the relationship between genetic distance and hybrid performance in all possible non-reciprocal crosses between them. The 15 F1 hybrids along with the six parents were evaluated for eight traits of agronomic importance including yield in a replicated field trial. The six parents were examined for DNA polymorphism using 120 random decamer oligonucleotide primers. A total of 168 polymorphic variants were generated and based on the polymorphism data, genetic distances (GDs) ranged from 0.157 to 0.383. Heterosis was observed in hybrids for most of the traits, and yield exhibited the highest heterosis among the eight traits examined. The correlation values of GDs with F1 performance were not significant. Also the correlations of GDs with midparent and better-parent heterosis were not significant except for spikelets per panicle. Our results have indicated that GDs based on the RAPDs markers may not be useful for predicting heterotic combinations in Tongil-type rice and are supportive of the idea that the level of correlations between hybrid performance and genetic divergence is dependent on the germlplasm employed.

  • This study analyzed greenspace structure focused on greenspace areas and vegetation structure for Yanggu, investigated resident attitudes to the greenspace, and explored strategies to improve greenspace functions in a rural region. Woody plant cover was approximately 29% for parks and only 3% for commercial gardens. The amount of planting for Yanggu was poor, as compared with the results of similar studies for urban areas. Trees, of which dbh was below 20cm, accounted for 91% of all trees and the tree-age structure was largely characterized by a young, growing tree population. Based on the analysis of mean importance values (MIV) of woody plant species, only a few were different in dominant species from urban areas. Four species among 10 species with highest MIV in Yanggu were very common species also ranked among 10 in cities. The most dominant species planted in residential and commercial gardens were practical plants such as fruit or edibles. Greenspace covered about 69% of parks, 39% of residential gardens, 37% of institutional gardens, 24% of streets, and 15% of commercial gardens, respectively. Tree planting potential revealed that present woody plant cover can be increased additionally by 6 times in the streets and by 2 times in the residential and commercial gardens. Based on the results of greenspace structure, planting patterns, and questionary investigation, some strategies were suggested to enlarge greenspace including its environmental functions. They included identifying each street section through setting up themes and planting appropriate species, creating multilayered vegetation structures, and promoting planting in bare grounds of gardens and around a buildings for saving energy.

  • Background: Clefts in newborns are associated with severe morphological and functional impairment. Especially the lip is of importance as if the treatment result is unsatisfactory, it can lead to psychological changes in the patient. Different operative procedures have been developed over the last decades. The aim of the presented study was the comparison of the surgical techniques according to Millard and Pfeifer regarding the temporal development of the postoperative symmetry of the lip height and mouth width. Methods: Digitized photographs of patients from the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Göttingen were evaluated from 1979 to 1996. With a video analysis program, the lip height and mouth width were analyzed regarding the symmetry. We demonstrated the symmetry values over a period of 8 years in order to show the influence of growth on postoperative results. Results: The development of the vertical symmetry of the Philtrum and the lip vermillion on the cleft side in comparison to the healthy side behaves differently depending on Pfeifer and Millard. The lip height of the cleft lip was shorter in both techniques than on the healthy side, but Pfeifer's difference was significantly more pronounced. The lip vermillion height on the cleft side was slightly shorter in the Millard group and markedly larger in the Pfeifer group. Both techniques can achieve good symmetry results for the vertical dimension of the lip. According to Pfeifer, the development of the horizontal dimension on the cleft side is bigger within the first 4 years than on the healthy side; according to the Millard technique, the horizontal development is smaller. These differences are greater within the first 6 years and approach between the 6th and 8th year. Conclusions: The Millard technique demonstrates better results concerning the philtrum and vermillion symmetry during growth within the first 6 years. Over the whole study period, growth corrects the philtrum and vermillion symmetry within the Pfeifer group.

  • This study aimed to develop collective intelligence (CI) based instructional models for teaching socioscientific issues on the basis of intimate collaboration with science teachers, and to investigate the participating teachers' perceptions on the effectiveness of the instructional models. Adapting the ADDIE model, we suggested three types of SSI instructional models (i.e. generative model, exploratory model, and decision-making model). Generative models emphasized the process of brainstorming ideas or possible solutions for SSI. Exploratory models focused on providing students opportunities to explore various SSI cases and diverse perspectives to understand its controversial nature and complexity. Decision-making models encouraged students to negotiate or develop a group-consensus on SSI through the dialogical process. After implementing the instructional models in the science classroom, the teachers reported that CI-based SSI instructional models contributed to encouraging students' active participation and collaboration as well as to improving the quality of their argument or discourses on SSI. They also supported the importance of developing collective consciousness on the issues in the beginning of the SSI class, providing independent time and space for reflecting on their personal values and opinions with scientific evidence, and formulating an atmosphere where they freely exchanged opinions and feedback for constructing better collective ideas.

  • Recently, the sonnet and the shijo, each representing French and Korean formal poetries, are tend to be read with the eyes only, as were more accustomed to written literature. But even after almost three millennia of written literature and increased use of digitalized poems, poetry retains its appeal to the ear as well as to the eye. To read a poem only by eyes might be wrong because it is designed to be read aloud by mouth and understood by ear, and will decrease the aesthetic sense otherwise. It is essential to find the right way to recite a poem in this dramatically changed society, and is especially important when many shijos are changing into digitalized forms to adapt the new wave of our society. The sonnet and the shijo emphasize the importance of the harmony of sounds and rhythms with certain structure, and have their own prosodies. The emotions of the speaker in poems are expressed with words. When they are pronounced. each phoneme has its own phonemic characteristics. When comparing the The Broken Bell(Baudelaire) and Chopoong ga (Jong Seo Kim) in terms of prosody and phonetics. the speakers emotions are closely related with the phonetic structure of each word. In The Broken Bell, the phonetic value of rhymes, repeated phonemes, concentration of front and back vowels. rhythms of onesyllable words shape the overall image of this poem describing the productivity of bells as appose to the sterility of the soul. Chopoong ga also shows the determined and strong will of the speaker by frequent glottalized sounds. distribution and concentration of certain vowels. and frequent use of plosives. As you see in these examples, phones, beats, and rhythms are not the mere transmitter of meaning but possess their expressive values of their own and should be the first to be considered when reciting a poem.

  • Reconstruction and remodeling have been introduced as a part of renewal (redevelopment) projects for old apartments built after the mid-1970's and government policies for revitalizing each project has been changed continually. However, the frequent changes of the policies have caused conflicts among business entities in selecting business methods. The conflicts from their early stages have made serious problems in the entire business process. Therefore, this study deduced factors of business selection by applying comparison analysis between the two business projects on how certain factors have an influence on selecting reconstruction and remodeling business projects. Based on the analysis, four categories and 26 factors were finally selected. After then, the priority of each selection factor was deduced through the AHP method used for analysis of relative importance and impact values regarding to the business selection. It is expected to resolve conflicts among owners and select rational directions for reconstruction and remodeling business, based on the conclusion through analysis of influence on selection factors.
