  • In this study, the effects of vascular parameter changes and electrodes on VOP measurement based on IPG were simulated mathematically. For the evaluation of the effects of hemodynamic changes on VOP, a mathematical model, which consists of cardiovascular system model and venous occlusion model, was developed and the model solution representing the blood flow and pressure in measuring point was found by 2nd order Runge-Kutta method. And, with sensitivity coefficients obtained from finite element solution of electric field in measuring point, the effects of electrode system on measurement were evaluated. As increasing the resistance, the venous capacitance was not changed but the venous outflows were decreased and the decreased compliance reduced the venous capacitance. And, for several configurations of round electrodes and band electrodes, the sensitivity coefficients were computed using the electric field distribution along deep vein. In conclusion, the proposed mathematical cardiovascular model could be applied to the simulation study on the effects of hemodynamic parameters on DVT diagnosis with IPG. And, also the sensitivity coefficients could provide effective electrode configuration for exact measurement of VOP.

  • In this paper, an approximate formula for radiation efficiency of the plate surround by an infinite rigid baffle is studied. The plate is simply supported and one side is in contact with air, while other side with water. By assuming an infinite plate, the fluid loading effect is derived in terms of an effective mass. Based on the observation that the fluid loading effect decreases as frequency increases, the radiation efficiency formula at high frequency, which was originally derived for a plate vibrating in the air, is modified as the approximate formula for a submerged plate. The fluid loading effect is taken into account in the wavenumber of the plate. Comparisons of the approximate formula with the numerical results shows that they match well except the mid-frequency range in which numerical results show many oscillations. In numerically solving the fully coupled equations of motion, fourfold integrals of the impedance coefficients are reduced to single nonsingular integrals, which results in substantial reduction in computing time.

  • We propose a method for increasing the bandwidth of a substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed antenna with taper-based micro-strip SIW transition feeding. For radio transmission, a circular slot is etched on top of the SIW cavity. For optimal antenna design, the slot is etched slightly away from the cavity center to generate circularly polarized waves. Simulations show a wide axial ratio bandwidth of 7.860% between 11.02 GHz and 11.806 GHz. Experimental results confirm a similar wide axial ratio bandwidth of 4.9% between 10.8 GHz and 11.35 GHz. An SIW feed from an inductive window excites the radiating circular slot, resulting in a simulated wide impedance range of 1.548 GHz (10.338 GHz-11.886 GHz) and bandwidth of 13.93%. Experimental results show a wide impedance of 2.08 GHz (10.2 GHz-12.08 GHz) and bandwidth of 18.84%. The SIW cavity-backed antenna creates a unidirectional pattern, leading to gains of 6.61 dBi and 7.594 dBi in simulations and experiments, respectively. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate, and the reflection coefficient, radiation patterns, and gains were tested and compared using a computer simulator. The developed broadband antenna seems suitable for X-band applications.

  • In this paper, compact linear dual polarized series-fed $1{\times}2$ linear and $2{\times}2$ planar arrays antennas for airborne SAR applications are proposed. The proposed antenna design consists of a square radiating patch that is placed on top of the substrate, a quarter wave transformer and $50-{\Omega}$ matched transformer. Matching between a radiating patch and the $50-{\Omega}$ microstrip line is accomplished through a direct coupled-feed technique with the help of an impedance inverter (${\lambda}/4$ impedance transformer) placed at both horizontal and vertical planes, in the case of the $2{\times}2$ planar array. The overall size for the prototype-1 and prototype-2 fabricated antennas are $1.9305{\times}0.9652{\times}0.05106{{\lambda}_0}^3$ and $1.9305{\times}1.9305{\times}0.05106{{\lambda}_0}^3$, respectively. The fabricated structure has been tested, and the experimental results are similar to the simulated ones. The CST MWS simulated and vector network analyzer measured reflection coefficient ($S_{11}$) results were compared, and they indicate that the proposed antenna prototype-1 yields the impedance bandwidth >140 MHz (9.56-9.72 GHz) defined by $S_{11}$<-10 dB with 1.43%, and $S_{21}$<-25 dB in the case of prototype-2 (9.58-9.74 GHz, $S_{11}$< -10 dB) >140 MHz for all the individual ports. The surface currents and the E- and H-field distributions were studied for a better understanding of the polarization mechanism. The measured results of the proposed dual polarized antenna were in accordance with the simulated analysis and showed good performance of the S-parameters and radiation patterns (co-pol and cross-pol), gain, efficiency, front-to-back ratio, half-power beam width) at the resonant frequency. With these features and its compact size, the proposed antenna will be suitable for X-band airborne synthetic aperture radar applications.

  • Each biological tissue has endemic electrical characteristics owing to various differences such as those in cellular arrangement or organization form. The endemic electrical characteristics change when any biological change occurs. This work is a preliminary study surveying the changes in the electrical characteristics of biological tissue caused by radiation exposure. For protection aganinst radiation hazards, therefore the electrical characteristics of living tissue were evaluated after development of the automatic control measurement system using LabVIEW. No alteration of biological tissues was observed before and after measurement of the electrical characteristics, and the biblogical tissues exhibited similar patterns. Through repeated measurements using the impedance/gain-phase analyzer, the coefficient of variation was determined as within 10%. The reproducibility impedance phase difference in electrical characteristics of the biological tissue did not change, and the tissue had resistance. The absolute value of impedance decreased constantly in proportion to the frequency. It has become possible to understand the electrical characteristics of biological tissues through the measurements made possible by the use of the developed. automatic control system.

  • Migration image can be distorted due to reflected waves in the source and receiver wavefields when discontinuities of input velocity model exist in seismic imaging. To remove reflected waves coming from layer interfaces, it is a common practice to smooth the velocity model for migration. If the velocity model is smoothed, however, the subsurface image can be distorted because the velocity changes around interfaces. In this paper, we attempt to minimize the distortion by reducing reflection energy in the source and receiver wavefields through acoustic impedance homogenization. To make acoustic impedance constant, we define fake density model and use it for migration. When the acoustic impedance is constant over all layers, the reflection coefficient at normal incidence becomes zero and the minimized reflection energy results in the improvement of migration result. To verify our algorithm, we implement the reverse-time migration using cell-based finite-difference method. Through numerical examples, we can note that the migration image is improved at the layer interfaces with high velocity contrast, and it shows the marked improvement particularly in the shallow part.

  • In this paper, we proposed new type of an artificial magnetic conductor(AMC) structure, which has a high impedance surface for realizing the meta-material characteristics. The designed AMC structure set a goal of 3.2GHz, and the reflector, which consists of periodically arrayed AMCs is fabricated and measured. The high impedance improves the reflection coefficient, decreases the system size and interference, and increases the antenna performance. The structure has embodied the high impedance by the thickness and relative permitivity of the dielectric substrate and the design configuration without the metallic via hole which connects the AMC to the GND. The bandwidth is 150% broader than the similar AMC structures. Also, the distance between the antenna and the AMC reflector is decreased by ${\lambda}/10$ as working as the metal(PEC) reflectors. The antenna radiation characteristics are 3dB increased at 10mm away from reflector by measurement. The proposed reflector could be inserted in the portable mobile devices, and the antenna's performance has improved by the reflector. The specific absorption rate is dramatically decreased over 94% because the back radiation of the antenna is shielded.

  • In this paper, the reduced size of broad bandpass filter with parallel coupled line structure is presented. This proposed filter can control bandwidth of narrow to broadband by adjusting the coupling coefficient. The conventional filter is operated with a narrow band. If a higher bandwidth is desired than the conventional narrow bandwidth, it is hard to realize due to the coupling coefficient between feeding line and resonator. In this paper, to overcome this limitation, a proposed bandpass filter is designed with reduced size due to SIR(Stepped Impedance Resonator) and multi-grade type structures than conventional one, and it has characteristics of adjusting bandwidth freely as per quantity of coupling coefficient. The proposed bandpass filter that, experimental results of insertion and return losses are 0.42 dB and 20.9 dB with bandwidth of 60 % at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz, respectively.

  • In this paper, the internal antenna for mobile communication handset which is able to control both coupling coefficient and resonant frequency without any major modification of radiator and ground plane of PIFA(Planner Inverted F Antenna). The resonant frequency as well as amount of coupling between feeding point and shorting post can be adjusted by changing inductance. Because the inductor is connected on shorting post where the strength of electric field is weak, the performance reduction of the proposed antenna is very small enough to neglect. For the variation of the inductance value within 3.3nH, the resonant frequency of antenna can have operating range of 1650MHz ~ 1830MHz. And as be increased the inductance, the coupling coefficient of antenna is over coupled. This means that it can be electrically controlled the resonant frequency and input impedance of antenna by inductance and minimized the mismatch loss. Size reduction of 10% for PIFA is obtained without any major modifications of antenna elements. For the frequency range from 1650 to 1830MHz, reduction of the measured antenna gain is within 0.93dB as varying the value of inductance from 0 to 3.3nH.
