A structural health monitoring(SHM) technique for locating impact position in a composite plate is presented in this paper. The technique employs a single sensor and spatial focusing properties of time reversal(TR) and inverse filtering(IF). We first examine the focusing effect of back-propagated signal at the impact position and its surroundings through simulation. Impact experiments are then carried out and the localization images are found using the TR and IF signal processing, respectively. Both techniques provide accurate impact location results. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed methods have the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring knowledge of material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in the SHM of plate-like structures.
Golf ball spin rate after impact with club is created by the contact force, which is greatly influenced by ball and club mass, material, impact speed, and club loft angle. Previous studies showed that the contact force is determined as the resultant force of the reaction forces normal and tangential to the club face at the contact point. The normal force causes the compression and restitution of the ball, and the tangential force creates the spin. Especially, the tangential force takes either positive or negative values as the ball rolls and slides along the club face during impact. Although the positive and negative tangential forces are known to create and reduce the back spin rate, respectively, the mechanism of ball spin creation has not yet been discussed in detail. It is shown in this work that the linear impulse of the tangential force is directly related to generation of back spin rate of golf ball. The linear impulse can be calculated from the tangential force, which depends upon many factors such as ball and club mass, material, impact speed, and club loft angle. In this research, the influence of the contact force between golf club and ball is investigated to analyze the mechanism of impact. For this purpose, the contact force and the contact time at impact between golf club head and ball are computed using FEM.
The measurement of floor impact sound have been standardized in KS 2810-1 and 2. The height of receiving microphones position is specified in the standard as 1.2m which is almost half height of apartment rooms as a listening position. In this study, receiving positions are investigated by measuring the distribution of sound pressure levels at 792 receiving microphone positions in the standard testing building. Standard impact sources, tapping machine and impact ball, are driven on the center position in the source room where is located at the above floor. It was found that the distribution of sound pressure levels in the receiving room indicates significant deviation at different frequencies there is more than 5dB drop at 63Hz but 2dB rise at 125Hz at a height of 1.2m when the impact ball is driven, in the other case of a generating tapping machine there is more than 2dB rise at 125Hz at a height of 1.2m due to room modes.

Resilient materials are generally used for the floating floors to reduce the floor impact sound. Dynamic stiffness of resilient material, which has the most to do with the floor impact sound reduction. The resilient materials available in Korea include EPS(styrofoam), recycled urethane types, EVA(ethylene vinylacetate) foam rubber, foam PE(polyethylene). glass fiber & rock wool, recycled tire, foam polypropylene. compressed polyester, and other synthetic materials. In this study, we tested dynamic stiffness of resilient material and floor impact sound reduction characteristic to a lot of kinds of resilient materials. It was found that dynamic stiffness of multi-layered damping material could be estimated if know value of each layer that compose whole structure. And the test showed that the amount of the heavy-weight impact sound reduction appeared by being influenced from this dynamic stiffness of resilient material. The dynamic stiffness looked like between other resilient materials, a similar to the amount of the heavy-weight impact sound reduction was shown.
The aim of this paper is to present the method of identifying the impact location on the plate. This basic research has the future purpose to achieve the human-interaction technology based on the signal processing, piezoelectric materials, and wave propagation. The present work concerning the location identification of a single impact on the plate simulated the waveform numerically generated by impact force and applied the SWFOM(sliced Wigner higher fourth order moment) to the waveform to get the arrival time differences due to impact force between three sensors attached to the plate. The simulated signal is useful to get the information for time interval for the only direct wave. This information is used the source localization by using experimental work. The measured signal is also used for source localization of a single impact based on the higher order time frequency as a novel work.
Impact wrench has a sophisticated structure to implement various pre-designed mechanisms with specific functions. In the structure of impact wrench, the gear box has an important role to generate impacting force of anvil from actuating torque. Since, it requires to design systematically the gear box for accurate mechanism of operation and transferring motions. In this paper, a methodology of dynamic analysis, which is useful to design mechanical system, is proposed and applied to impact wrench, sequentially. At first, the way to perform dynamic analysis for design, which is progressed from component to assembled system, is introduced. Secondly, the proposed methodology is applied to designing impact wrench. Eventually, the results of parameter study with proposed methodology are applied to actual design for design optimization. And optimized-design is evaluated in the view of accurate operation and structural stability.
The beam structure models with an impactor or contact parts under impact forces have teen applied to the design of mechanical and electronic accessories. Switches, hard-disk pick-ups and sensors are typical structural examples of the structure to be designed to colliding with other parts of structures. In this paper, in order to examine the relationships between the changes of the stiffness and damping of the impactor and vibrations of the dynamic characteristics of the impact model of a cantilevered beam with an impactor, impact force of the impactor and response characteristics of the cantilevered beam were analyzed by both numerical simulation and experiment. Since the stiffness and damping of the impactor have high nonlinear characteristics, the contact model using revised Herz-model was established by experiments. Also, the results of numerical analyses for dynamic response and impact force of a cantilevered beam with an impactor have a good agreement with experimental results.
The impact sound of the golf club is one of the major factors to purchase it. Sound qualify evaluation techniques are mostly developed for harmonic sounds. Sound quality metrics for the impact sound is proposed in this study. Jury test, one of the typical subjective evaluation scheme, is carried out for evaluating the sound quality of 11 different golf drivers. Above subjective classification results are assumed to be the right answers. Conventional objective evaluation methods such as Zwicker loudness sensory pleasantness are calculated. Wavelet analysis and instantaneous loudness are applied in order to evaluate the transient sounds, which shows better correlation with the results from those by jury test.
This study aims to examine the existing single rating index in terms of level reduction limit of heavy-weight floor impact sound. To achieve this goal, sounds which have same loudness according to rating methods were suggested to subjects. And followings are results. 1) The rating method of measurement frequency level average is more suitable than that of other methods which are dependent on specific frequency for rating heavy-weight floor impact sound. 2) Level average for measurement frequency of 31.5Hz - 500Hz is more correspondent to psycho-acoustic response than that of measurement frequency of 63Hz - 500Hz which is for KS F 2863-2, existing rating method.
