The Automotive seat is the component related at passenger feeling and safety. It absorbs the impact or vibration and supplies the comfortableness. It must also have sufficient rigidity and strength to satisfy these given conditions. Two kinds of seat models are designed and studied by structural analysis. Seat back frame (b) has lower deformation and fatigue life than (a). Most deformation and damage possibility is shown at the waist, that is the middle of model. On the vibration analysis at which natural frequency is applied, model (a) has the deformation from outside to inside of model, but model (b) has the deformation from inside to outside of model. Model (b) is safer than model (a) structurally at most cases.

This study evaluates the impact of aircraft noise on people's health using the Todai health index(THI). A questionnaire survey was conducted in the vicinity of Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, from August 8th to September 9th, 2005. The survey area was divided into three groups based on different aircraft noise levels : area (1) for $80{\sim}85$ WECPNL, area (2) for $75{\sim}80$ WECPNL and area (3) for less than 75 WECPNL. In each area, approximately 200 respondents were sampled. Twelve scale scores of THI are converted to dichotomous variables based on scale scores of 90 percentile value or 10 percentile value in the control group. Logistic regression analysis taking twelve scores converted as the dependent variables and WECPNL(area), age, gender as the independent variables is conducted. Significant dose-response relationships are found in the scale of MOUT, DEPR, NERV, LIFE. Factor analysis was carried out and 2 factors are extracted. Those two factors might be called the "somatic factor" and the "mental factor". The dose-response relationship between two factors and noise seems to be unclear. Unexpectedly the odds ratio of the menatl factor in area (2), where the noise exposure level is lower than that of the area (1), is the highest and the annoyance in this area is also higher than area (1).
Shear connectors are generally used to link the slab and girders together in slab-on-girder bridge structures. Damage of shear connectors in such structures will result in shear slippage between the slab and girders, which significantly reduces the load-carrying capacity of the bridge. Because shear connectors are buried inside the structure, routine visual inspection is not able to detect conditions of shear connectors. A few methods have been proposed in the literature to detect the condition of shear connectors based on vibration measurements. This paper proposes a different dynamic condition assessment approach to identify the damage of shear connectors in slab-on-girder bridge structures based on power spectral density transmissibility (PSDT). PSDT formulates the relationship between the auto-spectral densities of two responses in the frequency domain. It can be used to identify shear connector conditions with or without reference data of the undamaged structure (or the baseline). Measured impact force and acceleration responses from hammer tests are analyzed to obtain the frequency response functions at sensor locations by experimental modal analysis. PSDT from the slab response to the girder response is derived with the obtained frequency response functions. PSDT vectors in the undamaged and damaged states can be compared to identify the damage of shear connectors. When the baseline is not available, as in most practical cases, PSDT vectors from the measured response at a reference sensor to those of the slab and girder in the damaged state can be used to detect the damage of shear connectors. Numerical and experimental studies on a concrete slab supported by two steel girders are conducted to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach. Identification results demonstrate that damages of shear connectors are identified accurately and efficiently with and without the baseline. The proposed method is also used to evaluate the conditions of shear connectors in a real composite bridge with in-field testing data.
Due to the rapid increase in cyber shopping mall of agricultural products, the parcel delivery service industry also increased, making it necessary to design an optimum packaging for agricultural products. And Due to the recent increase in strawberry consumption, there is also a need for a packaging system for parcel delivery service. In order to establish the criteria for optimum cushioning packaging design of strawberries, the bioyield strength of strawberries by storage time was measured through the ASABE test standards, and the peak acceleration in the resonance frequency and resonance frequency bands of strawberries was measured through the vibration test regulated in the ASTM test specifications. Tray cup pad and corrugated fiberboard box of delivery strawberries were designed using FEM theoretical analysis of contact stress and resonant frequency. In addition, an optimum packaging system was developed with a cushioning and vibration design considering the impact characteristics when distributing agricultural products. Through the performance evaluation and on-site evaluation of the optimum packaging system of strawberries for parcel delivery service, the random PSD test results of the delivery showed a 74% reduction in the acceleration level, and the actual distribution test of the delivery showed that the damage rate of strawberries was not more than 6.7%, indicating that it was possible to use the optimum packaging of strawberries for delivery.

A technique for improving estimation accuracy is introduced in order to locate the impact position of artillery shell during the weapon scoring test. Study on localization of impacts using acoustic measurement has been conducted and the usability of sensor array is verified with experiments. When the blast occurs above the ground in the firing range, the acoustic sensor above the ground can measure the directly propagated sound with the ground-reflected one. In this study, a method for reducing estimation error by using the reflection signal measurements based on the time difference of arrival method. Considering the reflection sound works as same as placing a virtual sensor symmetrically through the ground. This idea enables a virtual three-dimensional array configuration with a two-dimensional plane array above the ground as such. The time difference between the direct and the reflected propagations can be estimated using cepstrum analysis. Performance test has been made in the simulation experiment in the football size area.

A pounding tuned mass damper (PTMD) can be considered as a passive device, which combines the merits of a traditional tuned mass damper (TMD) and a collision damper. A recent analytical study by the authors demonstrated that the PTMD base on the energy dissipation during impact is able to achieve better control effectiveness over the traditional TMD. In this paper, a PTMD prototype is manufactured and applied for seismic response reduction to examine its efficacy. A series of shaking table tests is conducted in a three-story building frame model under single-dimensional and two-dimensional broadband earthquake excitations with different excitation intensities. The ability of the PTMD to reduce the structural responses is experimentally investigated. The results show that the traditional TMD is sensitive to input excitations, while the PTMD mostly has improved control performance over the TMD to remarkably reduce both the peak and root-mean-square (RMS) structural responses under single-dimensional earthquake excitation. Unlike the TMD, the PTMD is found to have the merit of maintaining a stable performance when subjected to different earthquake loadings. In addition, it is also indicated that the performance of the PTMD can be enhanced by adjusting the initial gap value, and the control effectiveness improves with the increasing excitation intensity. Under two-dimensional earthquake inputs, the PTMD controls remain outperform the TMD controls; however, the oscillation of the added mass is observed during the test, which may induce torsional vibration modes of the structure, and hence, result in poor control performance especially after a strong earthquake period.

This study deals with a method to identify structural damage using the combined finite element method (FEM) and the advanced damage search technique. The novelty of this study is the application of plates with arbitrary damage shapes and their response due to the anomalies in a structure subjected to impact loading. The technique described in this paper may allow us not only to detect the stiffness distribution of the damaged areas but also to find locations and the extent of damage. To demonstrate the feasibility of the method, the algorithm is applied to a steel thin plate structures with an arbitrary damage shape. The results demonstrate the excellencies of the method from the standpoints of computation efficiency as well as its ability to investigate the arbitrary stiffness reductions.
Recently, the number of industrial structures that must be demolished due to structural deterioration and unsatisfactory functional conditions has been increased. To minimize environmental hazardous factors created during the process of demolition, the explosive demolition method has been applied increasingly. This execution case was intended to describe an application of the explosive demolition method to the demolition of a Crusher & Screen structure, which was a large-section reinforced concrete special structure. It was deemed necessary due to its structural deterioration and unsatisfactory functional condition. Various pre-weakening processes and blasting patterns were applied to the large-section reinforced concrete members, and to reduce blasting vibration and impact vibration, time intervals were established for blasting in the same column and for blasting between blasting blocks. By applying the explosive demolition method to the demolition of a large-section reinforced concrete special structure, the explosive demolition was completed safely and efficiently, without causing any damage to surrounding facilities.

A three-dimensional image capturing device and its signal processing algorithm and apparatus are presented. Three dimensional information is one of emerging differentiators that provides consumers with more realistic and immersive experiences in user interface, game, 3D-virtual reality, and 3D display. It has the depth information of a scene together with conventional color image so that full-information of real life that human eyes experience can be captured, recorded and reproduced. 20 Mega-Hertz-switching high speed image shutter device for 3D image capturing and its application to system prototype are presented[1,2]. For 3D image capturing, the system utilizes Time-of-Flight (TOF) principle by means of 20MHz high-speed micro-optical image modulator, so called 'optical resonator'. The high speed image modulation is obtained using the electro-optic operation of the multi-layer stacked structure having diffractive mirrors and optical resonance cavity which maximizes the magnitude of optical modulation[3,4]. The optical resonator is specially designed and fabricated realizing low resistance-capacitance cell structures having small RC-time constant. The optical shutter is positioned in front of a standard high resolution CMOS image sensor and modulates the IR image reflected from the object to capture a depth image (Figure 1). Suggested novel optical resonator enables capturing of a full HD depth image with depth accuracy of mm-scale, which is the largest depth image resolution among the-state-of-the-arts, which have been limited up to VGA. The 3D camera prototype realizes color/depth concurrent sensing optical architecture to capture 14Mp color and full HD depth images, simultaneously (Figure 2,3). The resulting high definition color/depth image and its capturing device have crucial impact on 3D business eco-system in IT industry especially as 3D image sensing means in the fields of 3D camera, gesture recognition, user interface, and 3D display. This paper presents MEMS-based optical resonator design, fabrication, 3D camera system prototype and signal processing algorithms.

Transient response of a crack in a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) interface layer between two dissimilar homogeneous piezoelectric layers under anti-plane shear is analyzed using integral transform approaches. The properties of the FGPM layer vary continuously along the thickness. Laplace and Fourier transforms are used to reduce the problem to two sets of dual integral equations, which are then expressed to the Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical values on the dynamic energy release rate (DERR) are presented for the FGPM to show the effects on electric loading, gradient of the material properties, and thickness of the layers. Computed results yield following conclusions: (a) the DERR increases with the increase of the gradient of the material properties of the FGPM layer; (b) certain direction and magnitude of the electric impact loading impedes crack extension; (c) increase of the thickness of the FGPM layer and the homogeneous piezoelectric layer which has larger material properties than those of the crack plane are beneficial to increase of the resistance of transient fracture of the FGPM layer.
