The transient sound radiation from the impact between a steel ball and a thick plate is analyzed theoretically and compared with experiment results. The derivation process itself is difficult to analyze sound radiation characteristics theoretically for a thick plate with some resonances but may be investigated from measured data. During mechanical impacts, arbitrary driving point importance for an elastic system enables to predict by using mechanical importance method. In order to obtain approximate solution for an impact model testing, the surface Helmholtz integral formulation based on the integral expression for pressure in the field in terms of surface pressure and normal velocity is used as a basis. A simple expression is developed for an impulsive response function, which is time dependent velocity potential and pressure for an impact may then be computed by a convolution of exciting force. In estimating of elastic-acoustical correlation problems, mechanical inertance, overall transfer function and radiation resistance obtained by signal processing techniques are used. The usefulness is confirmed by applying these methods prediction of arbitray driving pint inertance, radiated sound pressure and exciting force.

Time-variant sea surface causes a forward scattering and Doppler spreading in received signal on underwater acoustic communication system. This results in time-varying amplitude, frequency and phase variation of the received signal. In such a way the channel coherence bandwidth and fading feature also change with time. Consequently, the system performance is degraded and high-speed coherent digital communication is disrupted. In this paper, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) performance is examined in two different sea surface conditions. The impact of sea surface scattering on performance is analyzed on basis of the channel impulse response and temporal coherence using linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. The impulse response and the temporal coherence of the rough sea surface condition were more unstable and less than that of the calm sea surface condition, respectively. By relating these with time variant envelope, amplitude and phase of received signal, it was found that the bit error rate (BER) of QPSK are closely related to time variation of sea surface state.
A majority of infrastructures has been deteriorated over time. Therefore, it is very important to verify the quality of construction, and the level of structural deterioration in existing structures, to ensure their safety and functionality. Many researchers have studied non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to identify structural problems in existing structures. The impact echo technique is one of the widely used NDT techniques. The impact echo technique has several inherent problems, including the difficulties in P-wave velocity evaluation due to inhomogeneous concrete properties, deterioration of evaluation accuracy where multiple reflection boundaries exist, and the influence of the receiver location in evaluating the thickness of the tested structures. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to propose an enhanced impact echo technique that can reduce the aforementioned problems and develop a Virtual Instrument for the application via a thickness evaluation technique which has same technical background to find deterioration in concrete structures. In the proposed impact echo technique, transfer function from dual channel system analysis is used, and coherence is improved to achieve reliable data. Also an averaged signal -ensemble- is used to achieve more reliable results. From the analysis of transfer function, the thickness is effectively identified.

Flexible impact force sensors composed of piezoelectric PZT/PDMS composite sandwiched between Al/PET films were fabricated and their voltage signal characteristics were evaluated under varying impact forces for electronic mitt applications. The piezoelectric impact force sensor on an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) substrate exhibited an output voltage difference of no greater than 40 mV a periodical impact test in with the impact load was increased by as much as 240 N by a restoration time of 5 s in a five-time experiment, implying good sensing ability. Moreover, the impact force sensor embedded four electronic mitts showed a reliable sensitivity of less than 1 mV/N and good repeatability under 100 N-impact force during a cycle test executed 10,000 times. This indicated that the fabricated flexible piezoelectric impact sensor could be used in electronic mitt applications. However, the relatively low elastic limit of substrate material such as EVA or poly-urethane slightly deteriorated the sensitivity of the impact sensor embedded electronic mitt at over 200 N-impact forces.

The Loose Part Monitoring System(LPMS) has been designed to detect, locate and evaluate detached or loosened parts and foreign objects in the reactor coolant system. In this paper, at first, we presents an application of the back propagation neural network. At the preprocessing step, the moving window average filter is adopted to reject the low frequency background noise components. And then, extracting the acoustic signature such as Starting point of impact signal, Rising time, Half period, and Global time, they are used as the inputs to neural network. Secondly, we applied the neural network algorithm to LPMS in order to estimate the mass of loose parts. We trained the impact test data of YGN3 using the backpropagation method. The input parameter for training is Rising Time, Half Period, Maximum amplitude. The result showed that the neural network would be applied to LPMS. Also, applying the neural network to the Practical false alarm data during startup and impact test signal at nuclear power Plant, the false alarms are reduced effectively. 1.
One promising method for impact detection of composite structures is based on the use of piezopolymer thin fim (PVDf) sensor. In this paper, the relationship between the contact force and the signals of the attached strain gage and PVDF sensor to the composite plate subjected to low-velocity impact were derived. The relation for the open circuit and short circuit voltage of PVDF sensor was derived based on the equivalent circuit model of the piezoelectric sensor. The work was then extended to include experimental investigation into the use of short circuit voltage of PVDF sensor without using charge amplifier to detect low-velocity impact. The natural frequencies and damping ratio of the composite plate obtained from the vibration test were used to modify the analytical model and therefore the differences between measured and simulated signal of the modified analytical model in both forward and backward problem were considerably reduced. The reconstructed contact force and simulated sensor signals agreed well with the measured contact force, strain gage signal, and PVDF sensor singanl.

To reduce the radiated noise of ships, the noises which are generated from onboard machinery, propulsion system and transfer characteristics of structure must be identified. While the ship is operating, however, we can not directly measure each signal of inputs and characteristics of transfer passage, because measured signals are superimposed by multi source and multi transfer passage. In this paper, the signal processing method for separating noise sources and transfer functions from the measured response signal by the cepstrum technique is proposed. The proposed method is verified by application of simulated signal and impact test and shows usefulness by application of real ship test.
Ar, $N_2$, and He are the conventional kind of shield gas that are used for laser welding. Many researches on the impact of laser welding shield gas have been done, and it is on going until now. However, there are few studies that analyze the changes and differences of the plasma emission signal. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the change in the penetration characteristics according to the type of shield gas during fiber laser welding impacts to the plasma signal. As a result, if was checked that the difference in molecular weight of Ar, $N_2$, and He affects to the amount of spatter, and also found that the measured plasma radiation signal changes similar to the order of the molecular weight of the gases. Especially, clear change on the signal intensity per each shield gas was measured through RMS, and found that the shield gas was nothing to do with the FFT analyzed result.

Conventional Fourier analysis can give only limited information about the dynamic characteristics of nonstationary signals. Instead, time-frequency analysis is widely used to investigate the nonstationary signal in detail. Several time-frequency analysis methods are compared for a typical acoustic emission burst generated during the impact between a ferrite ceramic and aluminum plate. This AE burst is inherently nonstationary and random containing many frequency contents, which leads to severe interference between cross terms in bilinear convolution type distributions. The smoothing and reassignment processes can improve the readability and resolution of the results. Spectrogram and scalogram of the AE burst are obtained and compared to get the characteristics information. Renyi entropies are computed for various bilinear time-frequency transforms to evaluate the randomness. These bilinear transforms are reassigned by using the improved algorithm in discrete computation.

Radio interference has been occurring in mobile communication services on the southern seashore in Korea. Monitoring the radio interference signal revealed that the main reason for the radio interference was a radio ducting signal coming from the seaside of Japan. In this paper, we have analyzed the effect of interference on WiMAX service using a 2.5 GHz frequency band between Korea and Japan. We focus on the interference scenario from base station to base station and we use the Minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) method for interference analysis and the Advanced Propagation Model (APM) for calculating the propagation loss in ducts. The propagation model is also compared with experimental measurement data. We confirm that the interfering signal strength depends on the antenna height and this result can be applied to deployment planning for each system with an interference impact acceptable to both parties.
