  • During the installation of crude oil or gas pipelines, which pass through onshore buried pipelines or onshore pipeline from subsea pipeline to onshore plant, countermeasures need to be implemented so as to ensure a sufficient design life by protecting the steel pipes against corrosion. This can be achieved through impressed current cathodic protection method for onshore pipelines and through galvanic sacrificial anode corrosion protection method for offshore pipelines. In particular, in the case of impressed current cathodic protection, isolation joint flanges should be used. However, this makes maintenance control difficult with its installation having a negative impact on price. Therefore, in this study, the most suitable methodology for onshore pipeline protection between galvanic sacrificial anode corrosion protection and impressed current cathodic protection method will be introduced. In oil and gas transportation facilities, the media can be carried to the end users via onshore buried and/or offshore pipeline. It is imperative for the field operators, pipeline engineers, and designers to be corrosion conscious as the pipelines would undergo material degradations due to corrosion. The mitigation can be achieved with the introduction of an impressed current cathodic protection method for onshore buried pipelines and a galvanic sacrificial anode corrosion protection method for offshore pipelines. In the case of impressed current cathodic protection, isolation joint flanges should be used to discontinuity. However, this makes maintenance control to be difficult when its installation has a negative impact on the price. In this study, the most suitable corrosion protection technique between galvanic sacrificial anode corrosion protection and impressed current cathodic protection is introduced for (economic life of) onshore buried pipeline.

  • This study aims to empirically verify that the effect of investor protection on risk taking may differ according to growth opportunities. Furthermore, this paper intends to verify the hypothesis that the impact of risk taking upon corporate value will also be influenced by growth opportunities. The results of the analysis show that firms with high growth opportunities demonstrate greater risk taking as investor protection gets stronger while the degree of investor protection has little or no impact on their risk taking in case of firms suffering a lack of growth opportunities. In addition, risk taking has a statistically significant positive impact on improving corporate value for firms with sufficient growth opportunities, in contrast the impact is little or none when firms lack growth opportunities.

  • As the integrated and large-scale information is extended due to an advanced information system, a possibility of leaking out privacy increases as the time passes by. As a result, the necessity of using a privacy impact assessment (PIA) is emphasized because it can analyze and minimize the element of invasion of privacy. However, an essential audit for personal information protection is not fulfilled because most of the information system audit supervises over physical, managerial, and technical security items of system architecture area so that general items are the only things being checked. Consequently, this paper proposes that in order to minimize the invasion of personal information, the privacy impact assessment should be done. It also presents a procedure and method of personal information protection audit according to the result of the assessment. After applying the suggested method to two projects, it was confirmed that the improvements for protecting personal information were drawn from this paper.

  • The rockfall protection fence installed to secure safety against rockfall occurring in cut slope has been designed under the condition with 50kJ of impact energy arising when the 400kg of rock block is falling from 12.5m height. However, in falling case of bigger rock block or from higher place, it is hard to be secure of safety with existing rockfall protection fence. Using the rockfall program, safety analysis for rockfall is conducted in this paper by changing slope height, separating distance from fence, and slope angle, according to rock block sizes. In the result of analysis, when a 400kg of rock block which is designed load is fallen, the existing rockfall protection fence with 2.5m height can secure most of rock fall except some cases for the slope having 20m or less hight, whereas for more than 20m height, the fallen rock is frequently splattered over the rockfall protection fence, as well as the impact energy of rockfall may exceed designed impact energy. Therefore, in the design of rock fence, it is considered appropriate to design that after conducting safety review for rockfall according to the ground conditions, evaluating the bounce height and impact energy of rock fall, and then installing appropriate rockfall protection fence would be applicable rather than just following standards based design drawing.

  • This study aims to propose a framework for evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) services, based on the concept of AI service impact. It also suggests a model for evaluating this impact and identifies relevant factors and measurement approaches for each item of the model. The study classifies the impact of AI services into five categories: ethics, safety and reliability, compliance, user rights, and environmental friendliness. It discusses these five categories from a broad perspective and provides 21 detailed factors for evaluating each category. In terms of ethics, the study introduces three additional factors-accessibility, openness, and fairness-to the ten items initially developed by KISDI. In the safety and reliability category, the study excludes factors such as dependability, policy, compliance, and awareness improvement as they can be better addressed from a technical perspective. The compliance category includes factors such as human rights protection, privacy protection, non-infringement, publicness, accountability, safety, transparency, policy compliance, and explainability. For the user rights category, the study excludes factors such as publicness, data management, policy compliance, awareness improvement, recoverability, openness, and accuracy. The environmental friendliness category encompasses diversity, publicness, dependability, transparency, awareness improvement, recoverability, and openness. This study lays the foundation for further related research and contributes to the establishment of relevant policies by establishing a model for evaluating the impact of AI services. Future research is required to assess the validity of the developed indicators and provide specific evaluation items for practical use, based on expert evaluations.

  • This study was conducted to investigate and analyze the designation status of the Local Wildlife Conservation Ordinance for the conservation and management of wild fauna and flora, and to elucidate the problems and improvement directions. We compared and analyzed the provisions of the wildlife conservation ordinance of 17 regional local governments. After that, the designation status of Wildlife Protected by City/Do was investigated and the appropriateness was confirmed based on guidelines and laws. The ordinances related to wildlife were enacted in all municipalities, and provisions such as selection criteria, protection measures, and act limitations were commonly reflected. The provisions were varied depending on the characteristics of each local government, including details of flag species, the addition of species in the restoration promotion plan as criteria for selection and provision of protection and restoration of habitats. Since 2006, when the wildlife protected by City/Do designation and protection guidelines have been established, the protected wildlife have increased sharply, and there has been newly designated regional local government within the past one or two years. However, in some local government, protected wildlife has been designated for more than 10 years, and there are many that do not meet the selection criteria. Therefore, more scientific and objective selection criteria and methods should be constructed for the selection of species suitable for the purpose of the Wildlife protected by City/Do.
