  • Recently, various contents using human motion are developed in computer vision and game industries. If we try to apply human motion to application programs and contents, users can experience a sense of immersion getting into it so that the users feel a high level of satisfaction from the contents. In this research, we analyze human head motion using images captured from an webcam and then we apply the result of motion recognition to a game without special devices as an interface. The proposed method, first, segments human head region using an image composed of MHI(Motion History Image) and the result of skin color detection, and then we calculate the direction and distance by the MHI sequence. In experiments, the proposed method for human head motion recognition was tested for controlling a game player. From the experimental results we proved that the proposed method can make a gammer feel more immersed into the game. Furthermore, we expect the proposed method can be an interface of a serious game for medical or rehabilitation purposes.

  • Virtual reality seems to be the center of the next generation platform, which is founded on various engines that can easily make device progress and content. However, the interaction between virtual reality contents and users is thought of as relatively requiring technological advances. In this paper, we propose a technique to improve the interaction technique based on the case of Virtual Figure Model Crafting (VFMC) to analyze the problem of interaction caused by virtual reality contents. We introduced the concept of Head-Up Display (HUD) to present a more natural interaction method. The HUD is the digital visual interface of the aircraft. The advantage of HUD visual interface is to minimizes the user's visual movement by displaying the information of the scattered view to the forward direction of the pilot. In other words, we can reduce unnecessary left and right movements that make it is possible to expect an effect of reducing fatigue and increasing immersion.

  • It has been used various pad finish materials to enhance the reliability of solder joint and recently Electroless Ni Electroless Pd Immersion Gold (the following : ENEPIG) pad has been used more than others. This study is about reliability according to being used in commercial Electrolytic Ni pad and ENEPIG pad, and was observed behavior of various Cu contents. After reflow, the inter-metallic compound (IMC) between solder and pad is composed of $Cu_6Sn_5$ (Ni substituted) by using EDS, and in case of ENEPIG, between IMC and Ni layer was observed the dark layer ($Ni_3P$ layer). Additional, it could be controlled the thickness of dark layer according to Cu contents. Investigated the different fracture mode between electrolytic Ni and ENEPIG pad after drop shock test, in case of soft Ni, accelerated stress propagated along the interface between $1^{st}$ IMC and $2^{nd}$ IMC, and in case of ENEPIG pad, accelerated stress propagated along the weaken surface such as dark layer. The unstable interface exists through IMC, pad material and solder bulk by the lattice mismatch, so that the thermal and physical stress due to the continuous exterior impact is transferred to the IMC interface. Therefore, it is strongly requested to control solder morphology, IMC shape and thickness to improve the solder reliability.

  • This paper proposes a user interface for enhancing immersiveness and usability by combining hologram and haptic device with common Leap Motion. While Leap Motion delivers physical motion of user hand to control virtual environment, it is limited to handle virtual hands on screen and interact with virtual environment in one way. In our system, hologram is coupled with Leap Motion to improve user immersiveness by arranging real and virtual hands in the same place. Moreover, we provide a interaction prototype of sense by designing a haptic device to convey touch sense in virtual environment to user's hand.

  • Recently, due to improvement of computer performance and development of information devices, technology of mobile augmented reality is proliferating rapidly. However, because most of contents are passive or limitary, user can not feel interest and immersion. This paper designs interaction user interface system of 2 dimensional drawing based on mobile augmented reality to make bi-directional communication between the real world and the virtual world possible by using the vision based augmented reality and the database system.

  • Interaction technique in .3D virtual environment is a decisive factor that affects the immersion and presence felt by users in virtual space. Especially, in fields that require exquisite manipulation of objects such as electronic manuals in desktop environment, interaction technique that supports effective and natural manipulation of object is in demand. In this paper, 3D scene graph can be internally divided and reconstructed to a list defending on the users selection and through moving focus among the selection candidate objects list, the user can select 3D object more accurately Also, by providing various feedbacks for each manipulation stage, more effective manipulation is possible. The proposed technique can be used as 3D user interface in areas that require exquisite object manipulation.

  • Plasma immersion ion beam deposition (PIIBD) technique is a cost-effective process for the deposition of diamond like carbon thin film, the possible solid lubricant on large surface and a complex shape. We used PIIB process for the preparation of DLC thin film on $Al_2O_3$ with deposition conditions of deposition temperature range $200^{\circ}C$, working gas pressure of 1.310-1Pa. DLC thin films were coated by $C_2H_2$ ion beam deposition on $Al_2O_3$ after the ion bombardment of SiH4 as the bonding layer. Energetic bombardment of $C_2H_2$ ions during the DLC deposition to ceramic materials generated mixed layers at the DLC-Si interface which enhanced the interface to be highly bonded. Wear test showed that the low coefficient of friction of around 0.05 with normal load 2.9N and proved the advantage of the low energy ion bombardment in PIIBD process which improved the tribological properties of DLC thin film coated alumina ceramic. Furthermore, PIIBD was recognized as a useful surface modification technique for the deposition of DLC thin film on the irregular shape components, such as molds, and for the improvement of wear and adhesion problems of the DLC thin film, high temperature solid lubricant.

  • To augment emotion and immersion in virtual reality (VR), technological research based on scent displays have increased in recent years. The results of extensive studies have enabled the development of methods to interface head mounted displays (HMDs) with scent devices, and the possibility of VR applications of this development was identified via several demonstrations in actual VR environments. Despite all these efforts, more practical methods and conditions for scent display in VR environments are yet to be developed. To efficiently interface VR and scent, this study proposes three ways to set the position for scent display and scent conditions. The first is scent display using local positioning in the VR engine, the second is scent display using the relative distance and orientation between user and object in VR environments, and the third is scent display using time setting. In this study, we developed scent devices using a piezo actuator to validate the proposed method and successfully conducted demonstrations and experiments.

  • Interaction is an important component in the sense of immersion in augmented reality. However, the function of interaction in augmented reality contents is very weak. Bringing a lot of real environmental information is one of the ways to develop augmented reality, and interaction will naturally develop. In this paper, Leap Motion was used for natural interaction in augmented reality environment through the hand widely used as an interface tool, and extended more from the limited interaction of conventional display touch methods to create a natural interaction. This development of interaction will contribute to the development of various contents as well as augmented reality later.
