  • Though a deblocking filter of H.264/AVC provides enhanced image quality by removing blocking artifact on block boundary, the complex filtering operation on this process is a dominant factor of the whole decoding time. In this paper, we designed an ASIP to accelerate deblocking filter operation with the proposed instruction set. We designed a processor based on a MIPS structure with LISA, simulated a deblocking later model, and compared the execution time on the proposed instruction set. In addition, we generated HDL model of the processor through CoWare's Processor Designer and synthesized with TSMC 0.25um CMOS cell library by Synopsys Design Compiler. As the result of the synthesis, the area and delay time increased 7.5% and 3.2%, respectively. However, due to the proposed instruction set, total execution performance is improved by 18.18% on average.

  • The visual implementation of 3-dimensional national environment is focused by the requirement and importance in the fields such as, national development plan, telecommunication facility deployment plan, railway construction, construction engineering, spatial city development, safety and disaster prevention engineering. The currently used DEM system using contour lines, which embodies national geographic information based on the 2-D digital maps and facility information has limitation in implementation in reproducing the 3-D spatial city. Moreover, this method often neglects the altitude of the rail way infrastructure which has narrow width and long length. There it is needed to apply laser measurement technique in the spatial target object to obtain accuracy. Currently, the LiDAR data which combines the laser measurement skill and GPS has been introduced to obtain high resolution accuracy in the altitude measurement. In this paper, we first investigate the LiDAR based researches in advanced foreign countries, then we propose data a generation scheme and an algorithm for the optimal manage and synthesis of railway facility system in our 3-D spatial terrain information. For this object, LiDAR based height data transformed to DEM, and the realtime unification of the vector via digital image mapping and raster via exactness evaluation is transformed to make it possible to trace the model of generated 3-dimensional railway model with long distance for 3D tract model generation.

  • When finite length image signal is decomposed into 2-band signal and synthesized using 2-band orthogonal wavelet transform, boundary signals are not reconstructed perfectly. To reconstruct them perfectly, the filters which are different from wavelet filter are applied to the boundary signals. Since the existing boundary filters show poor frequency characteristic, the improvement of performance is bounded in practical applications. In this paper, the design method of improvement of frequency characteristic is proposed using inserting a zero to boundary filters which can reconstruct the boundary regions perfectly. Even though the length of proposed boundary filters is shorter, they show 4.2dB∼6.59dB gains in pass band and stop band error power compared with existing boundary filters. But synthesis process is some complicated.

  • Purpose: To determine the effects of 630 nm light emitting diode (LED) on full-thickness wound healing. Methods: Twelve male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into LED (n=6) and control group (n=6). Two $19.63mm^2$ wounds were created on the mid dorsum. LED group received a 630 nm LED irradiation with $3.67mW/cm^2$ for 30 minutes ($6.60J/cm^2$) for 7 days, while control group received sham LED irradiation. Epithelial gap, collagen density, ${\alpha}$-SMA fibroblast and PCNA keratinocyte were measured on histochemical and immunohistochemical staining using image analysis system. An independent t-test was conducted to compare the difference between groups. Results: The wound closure rate, collagen density, ${\alpha}$-SMA fibroblast number, epithelial gap and PCNA keratinocyte number have shown no significant difference between LED and control group at day 3 after the treatment. At day 7 after the treatment, the wound closure rate in LED group was increased when compared with control group (p<0.05). The collagen density (p<0.05) and ${\alpha}$-SMA immunoreactive fibroblast number (p<0.001) were increased when compared with control group at day 7. The epithelial gap in LED group was significantly shorten than control group at day 7 (p<0.01). The PCNA positive cell number in LED group was higher than control group at day 7 (p<0.01). Conclusion: 630 nm LED with $3.67mW/cm^2$, $6.60J/cm^2$ accelerate collagen deposition by stimulating fibroblasts, and enhance wound contraction by differentiating myofibroblasts in the dermis, and accelerate keratinocyte proliferation by facilitating DNA synthesis in the epidermis. It may promote the healing process in proliferation stage of wound healing.

  • Photobiomodulation (PBM) using organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) surface light sources have recently been claimed to be the next generation of PBM light sources. However, the differences between light emitting diodes (LEDs) and OLED mechanisms in vitro and in vivo have not been well studied. In vivo mouse models were used to investigate the effects of OLED irradiation on cellular function and cutaneous wound healing compared to LED irradiation. Mice in the LED- and OLED-irradiated groups were subjected to irradiation with 6 J/㎠ LED and OLED (630 nm), respectively, for 14 days after wounding, and some mice were sacrificed for the experiments on days 3, 7, 10, and 14. To evaluate wound healing, we performed hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining and quantified collagen density by computerized image analysis. The results showed that the size of the wound, collagen density, neo-epidermis thickness, number of new blood vessels, and number of fibroblasts and neutrophils was significantly influenced by LED and OLED irradiation. The tissue levels of interleukin (IL)-β, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were investigated by immunohistochemical staining. LED and OLED irradiation resulted in a significant increase in the tissue IL-β and IL-6 levels at the early stage of wound healing (P < 0.01), and a decrease in the tissue TNF-α level at all stages of wound healing (P < 0.05), compared to the no-treatment group. The expression levels of the genes encoding vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-beta 1 were significantly increased in LED and OLED-irradiated wound tissue at the early stage of wound healing (P < 0.01) compared to the no-treatment group. Thus, OLED as well as LED irradiation accelerated wound healing by modulating the synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines and the expression levels of genes encoding growth factors, promoting collagen regeneration and reducing scarring. In conclusion, this suggests the possibility of OLED as a new light source to overcome the limitations of existing PBMs.

  • Recently non-thermal plasma has been frequently applied to various research fields. The liquid plasma have received much attention lately because of interests in surgical and nanomaterial synthesis applications. Especially, intensive researches have been carried out for non-thermal plasma in liquid by using various electrode configurations and power supplies. We have developed a bioplasma source which could be used in a liquid, in which outer insulator has been covered onto the outer electrode. Also we have also put an insulator between the inner and outer electrode. Based on the surface discharge mode, the nonthermal bioplasma has been generated inside a liquid by using an alternating current voltage generator with peak voltage of 12 kV under driving frequency of 22 KHz. Here the discharge voltage and current have been measured for electrical characteristics. Especially, We have measured discharge and optical characteristics under various liquids of deionized (DI) water, tap water, and saline by using monochromator. We have also observed nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and hydroxyl (OH) radical species by optical emission spectroscopy during the operation of bioplasma discharge inside various kinds of DI water, tap water, and saline. Here the temperature has been kept to be $40^{\circ}C$ or less when discharge in liquid has been operated in this experiment. Also we have measured plasma temperature by high speed camera image and density by using either H-alpha or H-beta Stark broadening method.

  • Cyclooxygenase(COX-2) is an inducible enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of prostaglandins (PGs) from arachidonic acid. Over-expression of COX-2 has been reported to be associated with progressive hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatic C infection and rat liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride($CCl_4$). Recently, it is well known that mast cell products can stimulate the proliferation of hepatic stellate cells and key players in liver fibrosis. But little is known regarding their role in $CCl_4$-induced liver fibrosis in rat. Our aim was to investigate the relation between COX-2 expression and mast cells during liver fibrosis after $CCl_4$ treatment. Thirty Wistar rats were divided into five groups (non-treated 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8-week after $CCl_4$-treatment). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry were used to assess the expression of ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin (${\alpha}$-SMA), collagen-1 and COX-2 in liver tissue from $CCl_4$-treated rats. The density of collagen and mast cells were determined using a computerized image analysis system in liver sections stained with picrosirius red and toluidine blue, respectively. The expression levels of ${\alpha}$-SMA, collagen-1 and COX-2 mRNA were significantly higher at 2 wk in $CCl_4$-treated groups than non-treated group. The number of mast cells in liver tissues increased gradually from 2 wk to 6 wk depending on the fibrosis severity but decreased abruptly at 8 wk. The significant increase of collagen-1 and ${\alpha}$-SMA mRNA expression in $CCl_4$-treated rats was continued until 6 wk while the COX-2 mRNA was significantly decreased at 8 wk. These results suggest that increased mast cells are closely associated with COX-2 over-expression during hepatic fibrogenesis of $CCl_4$-treated rats.

  • This paper focuses on the idea development as a creative thinking process for design innovation. The process of thinking has the thinking structures of abduction and transformation. After we had studied the design thought, we found a structure of a thinking system, and created a creative thinking model with this. Using job analysis, we examined the duster of design jobs, which form the design process, and verified the thinking model. The findings suggest that our idea development has the creative process not only of divergent thinking and convergent one, but also of transformation in design. In same time, the design thinking shows their pattern of transition from abstract concept to concrete object. Between the design jobs, idea development shows higher difficulty than other jobs - marketing, product planning and follow-up. Combining the D-T-C (Divergent-Transformation-Convergent) thinking with abstract-concrete thinking, we designed a DFD(data flow diagram) for an early model of computer mediated thinking system (CMTS). This has implications for design support.

  • The vocal tract shapes were measured from tracheoesophageal speakers during the sustained phonation of five Korean vowels /u/, /o/, /a/, /e/, /i/ using magnetic resonance image(MRI). The subject's original vowel utterances with speech intelligibility and the synthesized vowels from MR images were analyzed. The results were as follows: (1) The vowels /a/, /e/, /i/ were perceived as the same sounds of actual subject's speech, but the vowels /o/ and /u/ were perceived as /$\partial$/ and strained /u/, respectively. (2) The synthesized vowels /a/ and /e/ from the MR images were perceived as the same sounds, but the vowels /u/, /o/, /i/ were perceived as different sounds. (3) The synthesized vowel by the expanded pharyngeal segment of 3 times in vowel /o/ was perceived as more natural than that of 2 times. The pharyngeal areas with varied sizes should be experimented to secure better speech production because the correct shapes of the vocal tract lead to distinct vowel production.
