  • In the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm, the weak threshold used in sparsity estimation is determined via maximum iterations. Different maximum iterations correspond to different thresholds and affect the performance of the algorithm. To solve this problem, we propose an improved variable weak threshold based on the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm. Our proposed algorithm uses the residual error value to control the weak threshold. When the residual value decreases, the threshold value continuously increases, so that the atoms contained in the atomic set are closer to the real sparsity value, making it possible to improve the reconstruction accuracy. In addition, we improved the generalized Jaccard coefficient in order to replace the inner product method that is used in the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm. Our proposed algorithm uses the covariance to replace the joint expectation for two variables based on the generalized Jaccard coefficient. The improved generalized Jaccard coefficient can be used to generate a more accurate calculation of the correlation between the measurement matrixes. In addition, the residual is more accurate, which can reduce the possibility of selecting the wrong atoms. We demonstrate using simulations that the proposed algorithm produces a better reconstruction result in the reconstruction of a one-dimensional signal and two-dimensional image signal.

  • This paper presents a method for line segment extraction for 3-d building reconstruction. Building roofs are described as a set of planar polygonal patches, each of which is extracted by watershed-based image segmentation, line segment matching and coplanar grouping. Coplanar grouping and polygonal patch formation are performed per region by selecting 3-d line segments that are matched using epipolar geometry and flight information. The algorithm has been applied to high resolution aerial images and the results show accurate 3-d building reconstruction.

  • This paper proposed a versatile algorithm based on a dual-tree complex wavelet transform for intensifying the visual aspect of medical images. First, the decomposition of the input image into a high sub-band and low-sub-band image is done. Further, to improve the resolution of the resulting image, the high sub-band image is interpolated using Lanczos interpolation. Also, contrast enhancement is performed by singular value decomposition (SVD). Finally, the image reconstruction is achieved by using an inverse wavelet transform. Then, the Gaussian filter will improve the visual quality of the image. We have collected images from the hospital and the internet for quantitative and qualitative analysis. These images act as a reference image for comparing the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with the existing state-of-the-art. We have divided the proposed algorithm into several stages: preprocessing, contrast enhancement, resolution enhancement, and visual quality enhancement. Both analyses show the proposed algorithm's effectiveness compared to existing methods.

  • As the existing radiation scanning systems use 2-dimensional radiation scanned images, the low accuracy has been pointed out as a problem of it. This research analyzes the applicability of the stereo image processing technique to X-ray scanned images. Two 2-dimensional radiation images which have different disparity values are acquired from a newly designed stereo image acquisition system which has one additional line sensor to the conventional system. Using a matching algorithm the 3D reconstruction process which find the correspondence between the images is progressed. As the radiation image is just a density information of the scanned object, the direct application of the general stereo image processing techniques to it is inefficient. To overcome this limitation of a stereo image processing in radiation area, we reconstruct 3-D shapes of the edges of the objects. Also, we proposed a new volume based 3D reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show the proposed new volume based reconstruction technique can provide more efficient visualization for cargo inspection. The proposed technique can be used for such objects which CT or MRI cannot inspect due to restricted scan environment.

  • X-ray CT(Computed Tomography) has been a good modality for non-invasive diagnosis and recently, Conventional CT has been replaced rapidly with Spiral CT in recent. In X-ray CT, spiral scanning has various advantages such as better image quality, reduced scan time (in a single breath-hold), a lower x-ray dose. But, it requires very fast and high performance image processing system to reconstruct slice images from spiral scanning. This paper describes the fast image reconstruction techniques with filtered back projection from the viewpoints of fast algorithm as well as hardware implementation for real-time imaging.

  • Objective: To evaluate the image quality and lesion detectability of lower-dose CT (LDCT) of the abdomen and pelvis obtained using a deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) algorithm compared with those of standard-dose CT (SDCT) images. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 123 patients (mean age ± standard deviation, 63 ± 11 years; male:female, 70:53) who underwent contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic LDCT between May and August 2020 and had prior SDCT obtained using the same CT scanner within a year. LDCT images were reconstructed with hybrid iterative reconstruction (h-IR) and DLIR at medium and high strengths (DLIR-M and DLIR-H), while SDCT images were reconstructed with h-IR. For quantitative image quality analysis, image noise, signal-to-noise ratio, and contrast-to-noise ratio were measured in the liver, muscle, and aorta. Among the three different LDCT reconstruction algorithms, the one showing the smallest difference in quantitative parameters from those of SDCT images was selected for qualitative image quality analysis and lesion detectability evaluation. For qualitative analysis, overall image quality, image noise, image sharpness, image texture, and lesion conspicuity were graded using a 5-point scale by two radiologists. Observer performance in focal liver lesion detection was evaluated by comparing the jackknife free-response receiver operating characteristic figures-of-merit (FOM). Results: LDCT (35.1% dose reduction compared with SDCT) images obtained using DLIR-M showed similar quantitative measures to those of SDCT with h-IR images. All qualitative parameters of LDCT with DLIR-M images but image texture were similar to or significantly better than those of SDCT with h-IR images. The lesion detectability on LDCT with DLIR-M images was not significantly different from that of SDCT with h-IR images (reader-averaged FOM, 0.887 vs. 0.874, respectively; p = 0.581). Conclusion: Overall image quality and detectability of focal liver lesions is preserved in contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic LDCT obtained with DLIR-M relative to those in SDCT with h-IR.

  • This paper presents a shape reconstruction method for automatic inspection of the solder joints on PCBs using X-ray. Shape reconstruction from X-ray radiographic image has been very important since X-ray equipment was used for improving the reliability of inspection result. For this purpose there have been lots of previous works using tomography, which reconstructs the correct shape, laminography or tomosynthesis, which are very fast algorithm. Latter two methods show outstanding performance in cross-sectional image reconstruction of lead type component, but they are also known to show some fatal limitations to some kinds of components such as BGA, because of shadow effect. Although conventional tomography does not have any shadow effect, the shape of PCB prohibits it from being applied to shape reconstruction of solder joints on PCB. This paper shows that tomography using Iterative Reconstruction Technique(IRT) can be applied to this difficult problem without any limitations. This makes conventional radiographic instrument used for shape reconstruction without shadow effect. This means that the new method makes cost down and shadow-free shape reconstruction. To verify the effectiveness of IRT, we develop three dimensional model of BGA solder ball, make projection model to obtain X-ray projection data. and perform a simulation study of shape reconstruction. To compare the performance of IRT with that of conventional laminography or tomosynthesis, reconstruction data are reorganized and error analysis between the original model are also performed.

  • A hybrid approach employing both the genetic algorithm and the newton-raphson method is proposed for the electrical impedance computed tomography (EICT) image reconstruction. Computational experiments based on the new concept have shown promising results for several noise-free models. In particular, the resistance distribution of the tested models having resistivity ratio up to 100:1 has been reconstructed sucessfully. Using the proposed mehtod, it is also possible to get the reconstruction by the conventional iterative approaches be difficult to vonverge to a robust solution. If the compution power is enhanced further, the proposed method is expected to stimulate the practical applications of the EICT technology in the near future.

  • For the practical applications of the EIT technology, it is essential to reconstruct sttic images iwth a higher spatial resolution in a reasonalble amount of processing time. Using the conventional EIT static image reconstruction algorithms, however, the processing time increases exponential with poor convergence characteristics as we try to get a higher spatial resolution. In order to overcome this problem, we developed a recursive mesh grouping method based on the Fuzzy-GA like algorithm. Computational simulation using the well-known improve dewton-raphson method with the proposed recursive mesh grouping algorithm shows a promising result that we can significantly reduce the processing time in the reconstruction of EIT static images of a higher spatial resolution.

  • The classical image reconstruction for stripmap-mode Synthetic Aperture Radar is the Range-Doppler algorithm. When the spotlight-mode SAR system was envisioned, Range-Doppler algorithm turned out to fail rapidly in this SAR imaging modality. Thus, what is referred to as Polar format algorithm, which is based on the Plane wave approximation, was introduced for imaging from spotlight-mode SAR raw- data. In this paper, we have studied for the raw data processing schemes in the spotlight-mode Synthetic Aperture Radar. We apply the Wavefront Reconstruction scheme that does not utilize the approximation in spotlight-mode SAR imaging modelity, and compare the performance of target imaging with the Polar format inversion scheme.
