  • This paper presents a novel contrast enhancement method based on singular value decomposition and image pyramid. The proposed method consists mainly of four steps. The proposed algorithm firstly decomposes image into band-pass images, including basis image and detail images, to improve both the global contrast and the local detail. In the global contrast process, singular value decomposition is used for contrast enhancement; the local detail scheme uses weighting factors. In the final image composition process, the proposed algorithm combines color and luminance components in order to preserve the color consistency. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves contrast performance and enhances detail compared to conventional methods.

  • This paper introduces an image decomposition-based deep learning method and loss function to improve low-light images. In order to remove color distortion and halo artifact, illuminance channel of an input image is decomposed into reflectance and luminance channels, and a decomposition-based multiple structural deep learning process is applied to each channel. In addition, a mixed norm-based loss function is described to increase the stability and remove blurring in reconstructed image. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively improve various low-light images.

  • In this paper, we present a novel space-frequency adaptive image restoration approach using vaguelette-wavelet decomposition (VWD). The proposed algorithm classifies a degraded image into flat and edge regions by using spatial information of the wavelet coefficient. For reducing the noise we perform an adaptive wavelet shrinkage process. At edge region candidates, we adopt entropy approach for estimating the noise and remove it by using relative between sub-bands. After shrinking wavelet coefficients process, we restore the degraded image using the VWD. The proposed algorithm can reduce the noise without affecting the sharpness details. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm efficiently proved to be able to restore the degraded image while preserving details.

  • In this paper, a realization of a subband coding with TMS320C80 is studied. TMS320C80 is a multi-media processor specially designed for an image process. A main topic of this paper, as mentioned above, is an application of TMS320C80 to subband coding. Subband coding is the coding that devides full image to several subbands and encodes each subband with different coding methods. As using that methods, good image compression can be obtained. First above all, goal of this paper deals with TMS320C80 in coding still image and useds it in expending it's application to 3-D video coding.

  • This paper proposes a motion segmentation algorithm for layer decomposition of image sequences. The proposed algorithm segments an image into initial regions by using its color and texture and computes a motion model of each initial region. Each pixel assigns one of the motion represented by the models or a motion except them, which segments the image into the motion regions. The proposed algorithm is app]ied image sequences and the segmented motion is shown.

  • Recently, various types of image contents are being produced, and interest in copyright protection technology is increasing. In this paper, we propose an image encryption technology for color images. This technique divides the image into RGB color components and then performs quad-tree decomposition based on the edge of image. After the quad-tree partitioning, encryption is performed on the selected blocks. Encryption is performed on color components to measure encryption efficiency, and encryption efficiency is measured even after reconstitution into a color image. The encryption efficiency uses a visual measurement method and an objective image quality evaluation method. The PSNR values were measured as 7~10 dB for color difference components and 16~19 dB for color images. The proposed image encryption technology will be used to protect copyright of various digital image contents in the future.

  • Recent developments in underwater image recognition methods have received large attention by the ocean engineering researchers. In this paper, an improved bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) approach is employed to decompose the given underwater image into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) and residual. We developed a joint algorithm based on BEMD and Canny operator to extract multi-pixel edge features at multiple scales in IMFs sub-images. So the multiple pixel edge extraction is an advantage of our approach; the other contribution of this method is the realization of the bi-dimensional sifting process, which is realized utilizing regional-based operators to detect local extreme points and constructing radial basis function for curve surface interpolation. The performance of the multi-pixel edge extraction algorithm for processing underwater image is demonstrated in the contrast experiment with both the proposed method and the phase congruency edge detection.

  • To solve the problem of poor noise suppression capability and frequent loss of edge contour and detailed information in current fusion methods, an infrared and visible light image fusion method based on variational multiscale decomposition is proposed. Firstly, the fused images are separately processed through variational multiscale decomposition to obtain texture components and structural components. The method of guided filter is used to carry out the fusion of the texture components of the fused image. In the structural component fusion, a method is proposed to measure the fused weights with phase consistency, sharpness, and brightness comprehensive information. Finally, the texture components of the two images are fused. The structure components are added to obtain the final fused image. The experimental results show that the proposed method displays very good noise robustness, and it also helps realize better fusion quality.

  • This paper presents a modified CCI image interpolation method based on the even-odd decomposition (EOD). The CCI method is a well-known technique to interpolate images. Although the method provides better image quality than the linear interpolation, its complexity still is a problem. To remedy the problem, this paper introduces analysis on the EOD decomposition of CCI and then proposes a reduced CCI interpolation in terms of complexity, providing better image quality in terms of PSNR. To evaluate the proposed method, we conduct experiments and complexity comparison. The results indicate that our method do not only outperforms the existing methods by up to 43% in terms of MSE but also requires low-complexity with 37% less computing time than the CCI method.

  • With the rapid development of computer technologies, a number of image modification methods have emerged, which have great impacts on the security of image information. Therefore, it is necessary to protect the integrity and authenticity of digital images, and digital watermarking technique consequently becomes a research hotspot. An effort is made to survey and analyze advancements of image watermarking algorithms based on singular value decomposition (SVD) in recent years. In the first part, an overview of watermarking techniques is presented and then mathematical theory of SVD is given. Besides, SVD watermarking model, features, and evaluation indexes are demonstrated. Various SVD-based watermarking algorithms, as well as hybrid watermarking algorithms based on SVD and other transforms for copyright protection, tamper detection, location, and recovery are reviewed in the last part.
