  • Purpose In this paper, we proposed alternate neighborhood system and reverse spread-direction approach for accurate and fast cellular automata-based image segmentation method. Materials and Methods On the basis of a simple but effective interactive image segmentation technique based on a cellular automaton, we propose an efficient algorithm by using Moore and designed neighborhood system alternately and reversing the direction of the reference pixels for spreading out to the surrounding pixels. Results In our experiments, the GrabCut database were used for evaluation. According to our experimental results, the proposed method allows cellular automata-based image segmentation method to faster while maintaining the segmentation quality. Conclusion Our results proved that proposed method improved accuracy and reduced computation time, and also could be applied to a large range of applications.

  • A wavelet-based image watermarking scheme is proposed, based on the insertion of pseudo-random codes in the frequency domain. The original image is required for the watermark detection. The 'strength' of the signature to be embedded depends on the image to be marked, thus fitting signal capacity. The experimental results prove that the method is more tamper resistant and less perceptible for any type of images than other well-known private methods in the frequency domains.

  • In order to utilize remote sensed images effectively, a lot of image classification methods are suggested for many years. But, the accuracy of traditional methods based on pixel-based classification is not high in general. In this study, object oriented classification based on image segmentation is used to classify Landsat images. A necessary prerequisite for object oriented image classification is successful image segmentation. Object oriented image classification, which is based on fuzzy logic, allows the integration of a broad spectrum of different object features, such as spectral values , shape and texture. Landsat images are divided into urban, agriculture, forest, grassland, wetland, barren and water in sochon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do using object oriented classification algorithms in this paper. Preliminary results will help to perform an automatic image classification in the future.

  • Recent technique has shown high interest in 3D stereoscopic image, one out of high immersion appearance techniques. Unlike general 2D image, 3D stereoscopic image is generated by 3D geometric information. Therefore, the lack of 3D geometric information sometimes imposes restrictions or makes editing more tedious. We propose a new unsupervised technique aimed to generate stereoscopic image which is estimated by depth-map information using image-based modeling from a single input image. The proposed system is implemented as the Adobe Photoshop(R) plug-in for considering generality and expandability, and also supports a preview function of interactive 3D stereoscopic image to determine stereoscopic view of high quality.

  • Encryption of digital images has been requested various fields. In the meantime, many algorithms based on a text - based encryption algorithm have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a method of encryption in wavelet transform domain to utilize the characteristics of digital image. In particular, wavelet transform is used to reduce the association between the encrypted image and the original image. Wavelet packet transformations can be decomposed into more subband images than wavelet transform, and various position permutation, numerical transformation, and visual transformation are performed on the coefficients of this subband image. As a result, this paper proposes a method that satisfies the characteristics of high encryption strength than the conventional wavelet transform and reversibility. This method also satisfies the lossless symmetric key encryption and decryption algorithm. The performance of the proposed method is confirmed by visual and quantitative. Experimental results show that the visually encrypted image is seen as a completely different signal from the original image. We also confirmed that the proposed method shows lower values of cross correlation than conventional wavelet transform. And PSNR has a sufficiently high value in terms of decoding performance of the proposed method. In this paper, we also proposed that the degree of correlation of the encrypted image can be controlled by adjusting the number of wavelet transform steps according to the characteristics of the image.

  • Stereoscopic image generated by depth image-based rendering(DIBR) for surveillance robot and camera is appropriate in a low bandwidth network. The image is very important data for the decision-making of a commander and thus its integrity has to be guaranteed. One of the methods used to detect manipulation is to check if the stereoscopic image is taken from the original camera. Sensor pattern noise(SPN) used widely for camera identification cannot be directly applied to a stereoscopic image due to the stereo warping in DIBR. To solve this problem, we find out a shifted object in the stereoscopic image and relocate the object to its orignal location in the center image. Then the similarity between SPNs extracted from the stereoscopic image and the original camera is measured only for the object area. Thus we can determine the source of the camera that was used.

  • New image coding system for facial images called 'Knowledge-based image coding' is described, in which input image is analyzed and output image is synthesized using analysis results. Analysis and synthesis method of facial expressions are presented. Synthesis rules are determined on the basis of facial muscles and are also used in analysis process to produce a faithful reconstruction of the original image. A number of examples are shown.

  • Image restoration is the process which estimates the original image form the blurred image observed by the non-ideal imaging system with additivenoise. According to the regularized approach, the resotred image can be obtained by iterative methods or the constrained least square error(CLS) filter. Among those retoratin methods, despite of many advantages, iterative iamge restoration is limited in use because of slow convergence. In the present paper, fast iterative image restoration algorithms based on preconditoning are proposed. The preconditioner can be obtained by using the characteristics finite impulse response (FIR) filter structure.

  • For efficient massive image retrieval, an image retrieval requires that several important objectives are satisfied, namely: automated extraction of features, efficient indexing and effective retrieval. In this work, we present a technique for extracting the 4-dimension directional feature. By directional detail, we imply strong directional activity in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction present in region of the image texture. This directional information also present smoothness of region. The 4-dimension feature is only indexed in the 4-D space so that complex high-dimensional indexing can be avoided.
