Multi-view Image Generation using Grid-mesh based Image Domain Warping and Occlusion Region Information (차폐영역 정보와 그리드 메쉬 기반의 영상 워핑을 이용한 다시점 영상 생성)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that generates multi-view images by grid-mesh based image domain warping using occlusion mask and various image features obtained from the stereoscopic images. In the proposed algorithm, we first extract image saliency map, line segments and disparity saliency map from stereo images and then get them through a process that improves the quality of extracted features. This process is accomplished in two steps. In the first step, reliability of disparity saliency map on object boundary regions is enhanced by using occlusion information. And in the second step, we enhance the quality of image features in terms of temporal consistency by using temporal consistency information for stereo images. With these enhanced features, multi-view images are generated by grid-mesh based image domain warping technique. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than existing algorithms in terms of visual quality.

Robust Motorbike License Plate Detection and Recognition using Image Warping based on YOLOv2 (YOLOv2 기반의 영상워핑을 이용한 강인한 오토바이 번호판 검출 및 인식)

  • Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) is a technology required for many applications such as Intelligent Transportation Systems and Video Surveillance Systems. Most of the studies have studied were about the detection and recognition of license plates on cars, and there is very little about detecting and recognizing license plates on motorbikes. In the case of a car, the license plate is located at the front or rear center of the vehicle and is a straight or slightly sloped license plate. Also, the background of the license plate is mainly monochromatic, and license plate detection and recognition process is less complicated. However since the motorbike is parked by using a kickstand, it is inclined at various angles when parked, so the process of recognizing characters on the motorbike license plate is more complicated. In this paper, we have developed a 2-stage YOLOv2 algorithm to detect the area of a license plate after detection of a motorbike area in order to improve the recognition accuracy of license plate for motorbike data set parked at various angles. In order to increase the detection rate, the size and number of the anchor boxes were adjusted according to the characteristics of the motorbike and license plate. Image warping algorithms were applied after detecting tilted license plates. As a result of simulating the license plate character recognition process, the proposed method had the recognition rate of license plate of 80.23% compared to the recognition rate of the conventional method(YOLOv2 without image warping) of 47.74%. Therefore, the proposed method can increase the recognition of tilted motorbike license plate character by using the adjustment of anchor boxes and the image warping which fit the motorbike license plate.

Illumination Compensation Algorithm based on Segmentation with Depth Information for Multi-view Image (깊이 정보를 이용한 영역분할 기반의 다시점 영상 조명보상 기법)

  • In this paper, a new illumination compensation algorithm by segmentation with depth information is proposed to improve the coding efficiency of multi-view images. In the proposed algorithm, a reference image is first segmented into several layers where each layer is composed of objects with a similar depth value. Then we separate objects from each other even in the same layer by labeling each separate region in the layered image. Then, the labeled reference depth image is converted to the position of the distortion image view by using 3D warping algorithm. Finally, we apply an illumination compensation algorithm to each of matched regions in the converted reference view and distorted view. The occlusion regions that occur by 3D warping are also compensated by a global compensation method. Through experimental results, we are able to confirm that the proposed algorithm has better performance to improve coding efficiency.

  • Multi-view video including depth image is necessary to develop a new compression encoding technique for storage and transmission, because of a huge amount of data. Layered depth image is an efficient representation method of multi-view video data. This method makes a data structure that is synthesis of multi-view color and depth image. This efficient method to compress new contents is suggested to use layered depth image representation and to apply for video compression encoding by using 3D warping. This paper proposed enhanced compression method using layered depth image representation and H.264/AVC video coding technology. In experimental results, we confirmed high compression performance and good quality of reconstructed image.

  • Due to the recent development of graphics hardware, real-time rendering of complex scenes is still a challenging task. As results of researches on image based rendering, the rendering schemes based on post-rendering 3D warping have been proposed. In general, these methods produce good rendering results. However, they are not appropriate for real-time rendering since it is not easy to accelerate the time-consuming algorithms within graphics subsystem. As an attempt to resolve this problem of the post-rendering 3D warping technique, we present a new real-time scheme based on projective texture. In our method, two reference images obtained by rendering complicated objects at two consecutive points of time are used. Rendering images of high quality for intermediate points of time are obtained by projecting the reference images onto a simplified object, and then blending the resulting images. Our technique will be effectively used in developing real-time graphics applications such as 3D games and virtual reality software and so on.

A Cosmetic Surgery Simulation System using Bilinear Warping and Bilinear Interpolation (쌍선형 워핑 및 쌍선형 보간을 이용한 성형 시스템)

  • This paper describes the implementation of cosmetic surgery simulation system by means of the bilinear warping and interpolation using a pair of control points in order to get the information which can be used to compare the before and the after the surgery. If an user provides a pair of control points, first of all, the system determines warping egion using the points and divides the whole region into four subregions which includes the control points as a corner ones. Then, for each subregion, it calculates warping coefficients for backward mapping using the four known comer points of each subregion. Using those calculated coefficients, the system gets the corresponding position of each pixel on the subregion of original image which matches the subregion of resulting image. Finally, a new pixel value is calculated by bilinear interpolation using the closest four pixel values of the position. The same process is applied to the remaining subregions. Through the experiments, we could find natural aesthetic results without any side effects which unnatural aesthetic results without any side effects which unnaturally distort the boundary of warping region.

  • Most of low cost digital cameras reveal relatively high lens distortion. The purpose of this research is to compensate the degradation of image quality due to the geometrical distortion of a lens system. The proposed method consists of two stages : calculation of a lens distortion coefficient by a simplified version of Tsai´s camera calibration and subsequent image warping of the original distorted image to remove geometrical distortion based on the calculated lens distortion coefficient. In the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a practical method for handling scale factor ratio and image center is proposed, after which its feasibility is shown by measuring the performance of distortion correction using a quantitative image quality measure. On the other hand, in order to apply image warping via inverse spatial mapping using the result of the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a cubic polynomial derived from an adopted radial distortion lens model must be solved. In this paper, for the purpose of real-time operation, which is essential for embedding into an information device, an approximated solution to the cubic polynomial is proposed in the form of a solution to a quadratic equation. In the experiment, potential for real-time implementation and equivalence in performance as compared with that from cubic polynomial solution are shown.

Efficient Data Representation of Stereo Images Using Edge-based Mesh Optimization (윤곽선 기반 메쉬 최적화를 이용한 효율적인 스테레오 영상 데이터 표현)

  • This paper proposes an efficient data representation of stereo images using edge-based mesh optimization. Mash-based two dimensional warping for stereo images mainly depends on the performance of a node selection and a disparity estimation of selected nodes. Therefore, the proposed method first of all constructs the feature map which consists of both strong edges and boundary lines of objects for node selection and then generates a grid-based mesh structure using initial nodes. The displacement of each nodal position is iteratively estimated by minimizing the predicted errors between target image and predicted image after two dimensional warping for local area. Generally, iterative two dimensional warping for optimized nodal position required a high time complexity. To overcome this problem, we assume that input stereo images are only horizontal disparity and that optimal nodal position is located on the edge include object boundary lines. Therefore, proposed iterative warping method performs searching process to find optimal nodal position only on edge lines along the horizontal lines. In the experiments, we compare our proposed method with the other mesh-based methods with respect to the quality by using Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) according to the number of nodes. Furthermore, computational complexity for an optimal mesh generation is also estimated. Therefore, we have the results that our proposed method provides an efficient stereo image representation not only fast optimal mesh generation but also decreasing of quality deterioration in spite of a small number of nodes through our experiments.

Reconstructing 3-D Facial Shape Based on SR Imagine

  • We present a robust 3D facial reconstruction method using a single image generated by face-specific super resolution technique. Based on the several consecutive frames with low resolution, we generate a single high resolution image and a three dimensional facial model based on it. To do this, we apply PME method to compute patch similarities for SR after two-phase warping according to facial attributes. Based on the SRI, we extract facial features automatically and reconstruct 3D facial model with basis which selected adaptively according to facial statistical data less than a few seconds. Thereby, we can provide the facial image of various points of view which cannot be given by a single point of view of a camera.

  • This paper proposed a real-time, low-cost, fast transistor open-circuit fault diagnosis method for voltage-source inverter fed induction motors. A transistor open-circuit changes the symmetry of the inverter topology, leading to different similarities among three phase load currents. In this paper, dynamic time warping is proposed to describe the similarities among load currents. The proposed diagnosis is independent of the system model and needs no extra sensors or electrical circuits. Both simulation and experimental results show the high efficiency of the proposed fault diagnosis method.
