To predict the iris matching performance and guarantee its reliability, image quality measure prior to matching is desired. An analysis on iris image degradation factors which deteriorate matching performance is a basic step for iris image quality measure. We considered five degradation factors-white-out, black-out, noise, blur, and occlusion by specular reflection-which happen generally during the iris image acquisition process. Experimental results show that noise and white-out degraded the EER most significantly, while others on EER were either insignificant or degradation images resulted in even better performance in some cases of blur. This means that degradation factors that affect the performance can be different from those based on human perception or image degradation evaluation.

In general fractal imge compression, each range block is approximated by a contractive transform of the matching domain block under the mean squared error criterion. In this paper, a distortion measure reflecting the properties of human visual system is defined and applied to a fractal image compression. the perceptual distortion measure is obtained by multiplying the mean square error and the noise sensitivity modeled by using the background brightness and spatial masking. In order to compare the performance of the mean squared error and perceptual distortion measure, a simulation is carried out by using the 512*512 Lena and papper gray image. Compared to the results, 6%-10% compression ratio improvements under improvements under the same image quality are achieved in the perceptual distortion measure.

Color image quantization is a process of selecting a set of colors to display an image with some representative colors without noticeable perceived difference. It is very important in many applications to display a true color image in a low cost color monitor or printer. the basic problem is how to display 224 colors with 256 or less colors, called color palette. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to design the 256 or less size color palette by using spatial maskin geffect of HVS and subjective distortion measure weighted by color palette by using spatial masking effect of HVS and subjective distortion measure weighted by color activity in 4*4 local region in any color image. The proposed algorithm consists of octal prequantization and subdivision quantization processing step using the distortion measure and modified Otsu's between class variance maximization method. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has higher visual quality and needs less consuming time than conventional algorithms.

With the development of communication networks, the processes of exchanging and transmitting information rapidly developed. As millions of images are sent via social media every day, also wireless sensor networks are now used in all applications to capture images such as those used in traffic lights, roads and malls. Therefore, there is a need to reduce the size of these images while maintaining an acceptable degree of quality. In this paper, we use Python software to apply K-mean Clustering algorithm to compress RGB images. The PSNR, MSE, and SSIM are utilized to measure the image quality after image compression. The results of compression reduced the image size to nearly half the size of the original images using k = 64. In the SSIM measure, the higher the K, the greater the similarity between the two images which is a good indicator to a significant reduction in image size. Our proposed compression technique powered by the K-Mean clustering algorithm is useful for compressing images and reducing the size of images.

Amount of radiation exposure by seeing through fluoroscopy examination while is many patient exposure administration and unprepared misgovernment be. In this study, abdominal fluoroscopy during the scan, the dose and image quality change according to the use of grid and added filter optimized by measuring the test condition is proposed. Uses seeing through fluoroscopy examination equipment of Image Intensifier of Easy Diagnost Eleva (Philips), under tube type and uses Human phantom and measures average area dose according to grid insertion existence and nonexistence and added filter kind change. Measure sum of 29 organ dose and effective dose through PCXMC imagination simulation program and image J program through noise, SNR, image distortion was measured. Resolution, sharpness, and analyzed using the MTF curves. Fluorography the grid to insert the filter thickness and thickening and increased the average area dose and organ doses and effective dose. In the case of spot examination, when inserted grid, average area dose and organ dose and effective dose increased. Filter thickens the average area dose decreased, but the organ doses and effective dose were increased when use 0.2mmCu+1mmAl filter, decreased slightly. Noise and SNR measurements without inserting the gird, if you do not use the added filter was the lowest and when measure the distortion, 0.1mmCu+1mmAl filter was no difference of image quality in case insert grid was judged that when did not use occasion added filter that do not use grid, difference of image quality does not exist. Did not show a big difference, according to the grid and uses of the added filter sharpness, and resolution. Patient dose increases with factors that reduce the quality of the image so reckless grid and the use of the added filter when abdominal fluoroscopy examination should be cautious in using.
This paper proposes a novel method to detect unauthorized copies of digital images. This copy detection scheme can be used as either an alternative approach or a complementary approach to watermarking. A test image is reduced to 8$\times$8 sub-image by intensity averaging, and the AC coefficients of its discrete cosine transform (DCT) are used to compute distance from those generated from the query image, of which a user wants to find copies. Copies may be Processed to avoid copy detection or enhance image quality. We show ordinal measure of DCT coefficients, which is based on relative ordering of AC magnitude values and using distance metrics between two rank permutations, are robust to various modifications of the original image. The optimal threshold selection scheme using the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion is also addressed.
Two user groups, expert and non-expert, are sampled to measure the image quality of G3 facsimile. A ITU-TS tset chart No. 2 has been transmitted among some selected cities and evaluated by user groups. Their subjective evaluation to the image quality is quantified by Mean Opinion Score method. There is highly significant difference in the image quality between expert and non-expert. From modified logit model, it is concluded that there is no significance in two considered factors, the effects of the number of links and transmission time. The derived percent curves show that 80% of non-experts(90% of expert) is considering the image quality of G3 facsimile "fair, good, or excellent".
Adaptive binarization is very important for the camera-based document recognition. This paper proposes a binarization method which can effectively adapt to the variation of image Qualify. Firstly, it analyzes the effect of binarization parameters to the result and proposes a method to measure the image quality. Then, it statistically analyzes the relationship between the image quality and the binarization parameter. Finally, it proposes a binarization method that automatically adapts to the quality of the input image, using the analysis result. The experiment results show that there is a meaningful relationship between the image quality and the binarization parameter, and therefore, the proposed method can effectively adapt to the variation of image quality.
Block based transform coding is most popular approach for image and video compression. However it suffers from severe quality degradation especially from blocking artifacts. The subjective quality degradation caused by such blocking artifacts in general does not agree well with an objecive quality measurement such as PSNR. Hence new quality evaluation technique is necessary. We propose a new image quality assessment method by measuring blocking artifacts for block based transform coded images. In order to characterize blocking artifacts, proposed method utilizes the facts that, blocking artifacts, when occur, have different pixel values along the block boundaries and such differences usually continuously span along the whole boundaries. This method does not require the original uncompressed image. It operates on single block boundary and quantifies the amount of blocking artifacts on it. Experiments on various compressed images various bitrates show that proposed quantitative measure of blocking artifacts matches well with the subjective quality of them judged by human visual system.

The fingerprint image quality relies on the clearness of separated ridges by valleys and the uniformity of the separation. The condition of skin still dominate the overall quality of the fingerprint. However, the identification performance of such system is very sensitive to the quality of the captured fingerprint image. Fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement are useful in improving the performance of fingerprint identification systems. A fuzzy technique is introduced in this paper for both fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement. First, the quality analysis is performed by extracting four features from a fingerprint image which are the local clarity score (LCS), global clarity score (GCS), ridge_valley thickness ratio (RVTR), and the Global Contrast Factor (GCF). A fuzzy logic technique that uses Mamdani fuzzy rule model is designed. The fuzzy inference system is able to analyse and determinate the fingerprint image type (oily, dry or neutral) based on the extracted feature values and the fuzzy inference rules. The percentages of the test fuzzy inference system for each type is as follow: For dry fingerprint the percentage is 81.33, for oily the percentage is 54.75, and for neutral the percentage is 68.48. Secondly, a fuzzy morphology is applied to enhance the dry and oily fingerprint images. The fuzzy morphology method improves the quality of a fingerprint image, thus improving the performance of the fingerprint identification system significantly. All experimental work which was done for both quality analysis and image enhancement was done using the DB_ITS_2009 database which is a private database collected by the department of electrical engineering, institute of technology Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya, Indonesia. The performance evaluation was done using the Feature Similarity index (FSIM). Where the FSIM is an image quality assessment (IQA) metric, which uses computational models to measure the image quality consistently with subjective evaluations. The new proposed system outperformed the classical system by 900% for the dry fingerprint images and 14% for the oily fingerprint images.
