  • In this paper, we propose a robust watermarking method against geometric attack even though the watermarked image is partially damaged. This method consists of standard image normalization which transforms any image into a predefined standard image and embedding watermark in DCT domain of standard normalized image using spread spectrum technique. The proposed standard image normalization method has an improvement over existing image normalization method, so it is robust to partial damage and geometric attack. The watermark embedding method using spread spectrum technique also has a robustness to image losses such as blurring, sharpening and compressions. In addition, the proposed watermarking method does not need an original image to detect watermark, so it is useful to public watermarking applications. Several experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method is robust to partial damage and various attacks including geometric deformation.

  • In this paper, The identity distinction of the moving objects using distance among hue normalization levels was proposed. Moving objects are detected by using difference image method and integral projection method to background image and objects image only with hue area. Hue information of the detected moving area are normalized by 24 levels from 0$^{\circ}$ to 360$^{\circ}$. A distance in between normalized levels with a hue distribution chart of the normalized moving objects is used for the identity distinction feature parameters of the moving objects. To examine proposed method in this paper, image of moving cars are obtained by setting up three cameras at different places every 1 km on outer motorway. The simulation results of identity distinction show that it is possible to distinct the identity a distance in between normalization levels of a hue distribution chart without background.

  • This paper presents a segmental scheme for regions-composed images in local normalization process. The scheme is based on local statistics computed through a moving window. The normalization algorithm uses linear or nonlinear functions to transfer the pixel distribution and the homogeneous affine of regions which is corrupted by additive noise. It adjusts the mean and standard deviation for nearest-neighbor interpoint distance between current and the normalized image signals and changes the segmentation performance according to local statistics and parameter variation adaptively. The performance of newly advanced local normalization algorithm is evaluated and compared to the performance of conventional normalization methods. Experimental results are presented to show the region segmentation properties of these approaches.

  • The performance of an OMR (Optical Music Recognition) system is usually determined by the characterizing features of the input music score images. Low resolution is one of the main factors leading to degraded image quality. In this paper, we handle the low-resolution problem using the super-resolution technique. We propose the use of a deep neural network with instance normalization to improve the quality of music score images. We apply instance normalization which has proven to be beneficial in single image enhancement. It works better than batch normalization, which shows the effectiveness of shifting the mean and variance of deep features at the instance level. The proposed method provides an end-to-end mapping technique between the high and low-resolution images respectively. New images are then created, in which the resolution is four times higher than the resolution of the original images. Our model has been evaluated with the dataset "DeepScores" and shows that it outperforms other existing methods.

  • The Hotelling transform is based on statistical properties of an image. The principal uses of this transform are in data compression. The basic concept of the Hotelling transform is that the choice of basis vectors pointing the direction of maximum variance of the data. This property can be used for rotation normalization. Many objects of interest in pattern recognition applications can be easily standardized by performing a rotation normalization that aligns the coordinate axes with the axes of maximum variance of the pixels in the object. However, this transform can not be used to rotation normalization of color images directly. In this paper, we propose a new method for rotation normalization of color images based on the Hotelling transform. The Hotelling transform is performed to calculate basis vectors of each channel. Then the summation of vectors of all channels are processed. Rotation normalization is performed using the result of summation of vectors. Experimental results showed the proposed method can be used for rotation normalization of color images effectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a RST resistant robust logo embedding technique for multimedia copyright protection Geometric manipulations are challenging attacks in that they do not introduce the quality degradation very much but make the detection process very complex and difficult. Watermark embedding in the normalized image directly suffers from smoothing effect due to the interpolation during the image normalization. This can be avoided by estimating the transform parameters using an image normalization technique, instead of embedding in the normalized image. Conventional RST resistant schemes that use full frame transform suffer from the absence of effective perceptual masking methods. Thus, we adopt $8\times8$ block DCT and calculate masking using a spatio-frequency localization of the $8\times8$ block DCT coefficients. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is robust against various signal processing techniques, compression and geometrical manipulations.

  • In this paper, we show the weakness of the image matching method by using MPEG-7 EHD(Edge Histogram Descriptor) and suggest how to improve this weakness by using image normalization. EHD algorithm is an image matching technique that collects edge's slope of distribution and same distribution. However, the EHD error rate is high because EHD is sensitive for changes of object distortion and rotation that will be matched. We improve matching performance by accurately extract edge information in image by using normalization. We compare and analyze the normalized EHD algorithm by using distortion and rotation and it shows robustness for changes of the size and rotation.

  • In this paper, we improve noise tolerance in image classification by combining ICA(Independent Component Analysis) with Normalization. When we add noise to the raw image data the degree of noise tolerance becomes N(0, 0.4) for PCA and N(0, 0.53) for ICA. However, when we use the preprocessing approach the degree of noise tolerance after Normalization becomes N(0, 0.75), which shows the improvement of noise tolerance in classification.

  • Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.

  • Robust face recognition under various illumination environments is difficult to achieve. For face recognition robust to illumination changes, usually face images are normalized with respect to illumination as a preprocessing step before face recognition. The anisotropic smoothing-based illumination normalization method, known to be one of the best illumination normalization methods, cannot handle casting shadows. In this paper, we present an efficient illumination normalization method for face recognition. The proposed illumination normalization method separates the effect of illumination from eigenfaces and constructs an illumination-separated eigenface subspace. Then, an incoming face image is projected into the subspace and the obtained projected face image is rendered so that illumination effects including casting shadows are reduced as much as possible. Application to real face images shows the proposed illumination normalization method.
