  • A layer channel, which can express effects on 3D image, is inserted to use it on application rendering effectively. The current method of effect rendering requires individual sources in storage and image processing, because it uses individual and mixed management of images and effects. However, we can save costs and improve results in images processing by processing both image and layer channels together. By changing image format to insert a layer channel in image and adding a hide function to conceal the layer channel and control to make it possible to approach image and layer channels simultaneously during loading image and techniques hiding the layer channel by changing image format with simple techniques, like alpha blending, etc., it is developed to improve reusability and be able to be used in all programs by combining the layer channel and image together, so that images in changed format can be viewed in general image viewers. With the configuration, we can improve processing speed by introducing image and layer channels simultaneously during loading images, and reduce the size of source storage space for layer channel images by inserting a layer channel in 3D images. Also, it allows managing images in 3D image and layer channels simultaneously, enabling effective expressions, and we can expect to use it effectively in multimedia image used in practical applications.

  • Purpose: To make a focal trough (image layer) for an average maxillary dental arch of 6-year-old korean in panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods : Phantom for the maxillary dental arch was designed using intercanine width, intermolar width, tooth size, and interdental spacing to record the data of 6-year-old child. The characteristics of pre-corrected panoramic machine (for adult) was evaluated using the phantom, resolution test pattern for margin of the image layer, and metal ball for the center of the image layer. Panoramic image layer of the child was developed by means of decreasing the speed of film-cassette and positioning the phantom backwards, and then the characteristics of post-corrected panoramic machine (for child) were reevaluated. Results: At post-corrected panoramic image layer, beam projection angles at all interdental areas increased for about 2.6-3.8°, the position of the image layer was shifted toward the rotation center for about 2.5 mm at the deciduous central incisior area. The width of image layer decreased at all areas. Conclusion : Increased beam projection angle will reduce the disadvantage of tooth overlap, and the same form between the center of the image layer and dental arch will improve image resolution.

  • In this paper, we propose a contrast enhancement algorithm using guided image filter (GIF). The GIF is used to divide an HDR image into a base layer and a detail layer. The energy scale of base layer determinate the darkness and brightness of the image. However, the detail information in the base layer is difficult to be displayed because of the high brightness and clusters of low brightness. We propose a contrast enhancement method by adjusting the gray level of base layer by subtracting the mean value of itself. It is combined with the detail layer to preserve the detail information. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in detail preservation and contrast enhancement.

  • In this paper, we proposed the recognition method that automatically extracts cracks from a surface image acquired by a digital camera and recognizes the directions (horizontal, vertical, -45 degree, and 45 degree) of cracks using the fuzzy single layer perceptron. We compensate an effect of light on a concrete surface image by applying the closing operation, which is one of the morphological techniques, extract the edges of cracks by Sobel masking, and binarize the image by applying the iterated binarization technique. Two times of noise reduction are applied to the binary image for effective noise elimination. After the specific regions of cracks are automatically extracted from the preprocessed image by applying Glassfire labeling algorithm to the extracted crack image, the cracks of the specific region are enlarged or reduced to $30{\times}30$ pixels and then used as input patterns to the fuzzy single layer perceptron. The experiments using concrete crack images showed that the cracks in the concrete crack images were effectively extracted and the fuzzy single layer perceptron was effective in the recognition of the extracted cracks directions.

  • Recently, the standardization of backward compatible JPEG image coding for high dynamic range (HDR) image has been undertaken to establish an international standard called "JPEG XT." The JPEG XT consists of two layers: the base layer and the residual layer. The base layer contains tone mapped low dynamic range (LDR) image data and the residual layer contains the error signal used to reconstruct the HDR image. This paper gives the result of a study to evaluate the overall performance of tone mapping operators (TMOs) for this standard. The evaluation is performed using five HDR image datasets and six TMOs for profiles A, B, and C of the proposed JPEG XT standard. The Tone Mapped image Quality Index (TMQI) and no reference image quality assessment (NR IQA) are used for measuring the LDR image quality. The peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) is used to evaluate the overall compression performance of JPEG XT profiles A, B, and C. In TMQI and NR IQA measurements, TMOs using display adaptive tone mapping and adaptive logarithmic mapping each gave good results. A TMO using adaptive logarithmic mapping gave good PSNRs.

  • Polymide is widely used alignment material of recent commercial LCD panel structure. Generally, polyimide alignment material is classified soluble polyimide type and polyamic acid type with their main bond structure of solution state. specially, compared to polyamic acid alignment layer, soluble polyimide type alignment layer have excellent reliability during long term LCD driving cause of their high imidazation ratio(%), high voltage holding ratio(%) and low ion density. The other side, this type alignment materials has significant DC image stickicng side effect for using in-plane switching mode lcd structure cause of their slow DC discharging property. we applied inorganic salt to usual soluble polyimide type alignment layer and found out this technique had good DC image sticking property without any loss of reliability property in inplane switching LCD cell structure. This approach leads excellent DC image sticking property with maintaining high reliability property this approach confirmed improves an image sticking and a reliability simultaneously from the horizontality aligned LCD mode whose relatively bad image sticking property.

  • This research was made to investigate the change of the image layer and of the vertical and horizontal magnification on the Panelipse radiographic image by the control of profile index. Using the Panelipse, a series of 60 exposures were taken with the steel balls placed in the holes of the plastic model plate, and then evaluated by 4 observers. Two points were assigned for a reading of sharp, one for middling sharp, and zero for unsharp. Each ball image then could be given a total reader score of 0 to 8. The author analyzed the image layer as defined by a sharpness score of 6 or more. The results obtained were as follows: As the profile index was increased, the shape of the image layer was not changed, and the width of the image layer was increased, and the position of the layer shifted away from the rotation center. As the profile index was increased, the ranges of vertical and horizontal magnification was increased, especially the ranges of horizontal magnification was greater than that of vertical magnification.

  • It is important to extract salient object image and to solve the invariance problem for image recognition. In this paper we propose a new hybrid algorithm for invariance and improved classification performance in image recognition, whose algorithm is combined by FT(Frequency-tuned Salient Region Detection) algorithm, Guided filter, Zernike moments, and a simple artificial neural network (Multi-layer Perceptron). The conventional FT algorithm is used to extract initial salient object image, the guided filtering to preserve edge details, Zernike moments to solve invariance problem, and a classification to recognize the extracted image. For guided filtering, guided filter is used, and Multi-layer Perceptron which is a simple artificial neural networks is introduced for classification. Experimental results show that this algorithm can achieve a superior performance in the process of extracting salient object image and invariant moment feature. And the results show that the algorithm can also classifies the extracted object image with improved recognition rate.
