We presents an edge-based point correlation algorithm for fast and stable visual inspection system. Conventional algorithms based on NGC(normalized gray-level correlation) have to overcome some difficulties in applying automated inspection systems to real factory environment. First of all, NGC algorithms involve highly complex computation and thus require high performance hardware for realtime process. In addition, lighting condition in realistic factory environments is not stable and therefore intensity variation from uncontrolled lights gives many troubles for applying NGC directly as pattern matching algorithm. We propose an algorithm to solve these problems, using thinned and binarized edge data, which are obtained from the original image. A point correlation algorithm with the thinned edges is introduced with image pyramid technique to reduce the computational complexity. Matching edges instead of using original gray-level image pixels overcomes problems in NGC method and pyramid of edges also provides fast and stable processing. All proposed methods are proved by the experiments using real images.

This paper presents a method to segment object ID(identification) marks on poor quality images under uncontrolled lighting conditions of automated inspection process. The method is based on dynamic programming using multiple templates and normalized gray-level correlation (NGC) method. If the lighting condition is not good and hence, we can not control the image quality, target image to be inspected presents poor quality ID marks and it is not easy to identify and recognize the ID characters. Conventional several methods to segment the interesting ID mark regions fail on the bad quality images. In this paper, we propose a multiple template method, which uses combinational relation of multiple templates from model templates to match several characters of the inspection images. To increase the computation speed to segment the ID mark regions, we introduce the dynamic programming based algorithm. Experimental results using images from real factory automation(FA) environment are presented.

This paper proposes a multimodal information transformation system that converts the image information to the voice information to provide the sight impaired people with walking area and obstacles, which are extracted by an acquired image from a single CCD camera. Using a chain-code line detection algorithm, the walking area is found from the vanishing point and boundary of a sidewalk on the edge image. And obstacles are detected by Gabor filter of extracting vertical lines on the walking area. The proposed system expresses the voice information of pre-defined sentences, consisting of template words which mean walking area and obstacles. The multi-modal information transformation system serves the useful voice information to the sight impaired that intend to reach their destination. The experiments of the proposed algorithm has been implemented on the indoor and outdoor environments, and verified its superiority to exactly provide walking parameters sentences.
Superquadrics can represent various and complex 3D objects with only some parameters(size, position, deformation etc.). So if we use both superquadrics and deformed superquadrics, we can also represent more realistic 3D objects which are existed in real world. In this paper we use the z-buffer algorithm and stencil buffer together because this is very useful when the superquadric primitives are combined. The fundamental ideas are illustrated with a number of tables and figures.
Mucociliary transport is one of the essential defensive functions of the airway mucosa. In this paper, the objective and quantitative method of measuring CBF(Ciliary Beat Frequency) was developed based on the image processing method. Microscopic ciliary images are acquired through image processing board inside PC, and data necessary for the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis are extracted. By means of FFT analysis, maximum peak frequencies are found in each divided block of a whole acquired image. Finally using these frequencies, we compose a frequency map showing the spatial distribution of CBF's.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. The topographic and geologic data and satellite image were collected, processed and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The used factors that influence landslide occurrence are topographic slope, topographic aspect topographic curv ature and distance from drainage from topographic database, geology and distance from lineament from the geologic database, land use from TM satellite image and vegetation index value from SPOT satellite image. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by probability - likelihood ratio - method. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data. The validation results showed satisfactory agreement between the hazard map and the existing data on landslide location.

This paper introduces a correlation-based surface matching algorithm that can be used to reconstruct the surface topography of an object that is scanned from multiple overlapping regions by an AFM. The image matching technique is applied to two neighboring images intentionally overlapped with each other. To account for the inaccuracy of the coarse stage implemented in AFM, all the six axes including the rotational degrees of freedom are successively matched to maximize the correlation coefficient. The results show that the proposed 6-axes image matching method is useful for expanding the measurement range of AFM.
Various types of sensors are used at industrial sites to measure vibration. With the increase in the diversity of vibration measurement methods, vibration monitoring methods using camera equipment have recently been introduced. However, owing to the physical limitations of the hardware, the measurement resolution is lower than that of conventional sensors, and real-time processing is difficult because of extensive image processing. As a result, most such methods in practice only monitor status trends. To address these disadvantages, a high-resolution vibration measurement method using image analysis of the edge region of the structure has been reported. While this method exhibits higher resolution than the existing vibration measurement technique using a camera, it requires significant amount of computation. In this study, a method is proposed for rapidly processing considerable amount of image data acquired from vision equipment, and measuring the vibration of structures with high resolution. The method is then verified through experiments. It was shown that the proposed method can fast measure vibrations of structures remotely.
This paper describes a weld pool monitoring technique, which is based on the weld pool image analysis. The proposed image analysis algorithm uses machine vision techniques to extract geometrical information from the weld pool image such as maximum weld pool width, gap width and misalignment between the joint longitudinal axis and the welding wire. These can be related to the welding parameters (welding voltage and current, wire feed speed and standoff) to produce control actions necessary to ensure that the required weld quality will be achieved. The experiments have shown that the algorithm is able to produce good estimates of the weld pool geometry; however, the adjustment of the camera parameters affects the image quality and, consequently, has a great influence over the estimation.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare concurrent validity and test-retest reliability based on Craniovertebral angle of 'Angles video goniometer', a smart phone application for convenient range of motion measurement, and 'Image J', an analysis software with high reliability and validity. This was conducted to find out whether 'Angle video goniometer' can be used clinically. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Fifty subjects were imaged laterally, and the angle of the head and spine was measured using Image J and the Angles video goniometer, respectively, in a resting posture and a chin in posture. The level of concurrent validity between the two measurement methods and the level of inter-rater reliability and intra-rater reliability were analyzed. Results: For forty participants, the concurrent validity between Image J and Angles video goniometer showed very high validity with ICC of 0.997(0.995~0.999) and 0.994(0.994~0.998), CVME% 0.71~0.72%, SEM% 0.31~0.34, MDC% 0.86~0.94. The test-retest intra-rater reliability showed very high reliability ICC 0.994(0.991~0.996), CVME% 0.71%, SEM% 0.31~0.43, MDC% 0.86~1.19%. The test-retest inter-rater showed very high reliability ICC 0.995(0.992~0.997), CVME% 0.71%, SEM% 0.43~0.59%, MDC% 1.20~1.62% Conclusions: Angles video goniometer', a smartphone application, is a device with very high reliability and validity for craniovertebral angle measurement in healthy adults, and it is a device that can be easily used in clinical practice.
