A Convolutional Neural Network Model with Weighted Combination of Multi-scale Spatial Features for Crop Classification (작물 분류를 위한 다중 규모 공간특징의 가중 결합 기반 합성곱 신경망 모델)

  • This paper proposes an advanced crop classification model that combines a procedure for weighted combination of spatial features extracted from multi-scale input images with a conventional convolutional neural network (CNN) structure. The proposed model first extracts spatial features from patches with different sizes in convolution layers, and then assigns different weights to the extracted spatial features by considering feature-specific importance using squeeze-and-excitation block sets. The novelty of the model lies in its ability to extract spatial features useful for classification and account for their relative importance. A case study of crop classification with multi-temporal Landsat-8 OLI images in Illinois, USA was carried out to evaluate the classification performance of the proposed model. The impact of patch sizes on crop classification was first assessed in a single-patch model to find useful patch sizes. The classification performance of the proposed model was then compared with those of conventional two CNN models including the single-patch model and a multi-patch model without considering feature-specific weights. From the results of comparison experiments, the proposed model could alleviate misclassification patterns by considering the spatial characteristics of different crops in the study area, achieving the best classification accuracy compared to the other models. Based on the case study results, the proposed model, which can account for the relative importance of spatial features, would be effectively applied to classification of objects with different spatial characteristics, as well as crops.

Effect of values on major satisfaction in dental hygiene students (치위생(학)과 학생의 가치관이 전공만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of values on major satisfaction in dental hygiene students. Methods: The subjects were 214 dental hygiene students in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do who filled out the self-reported questionnaire after receiving informed consents from January 20 to February 15, 2014. Except incomplete answers, 187 data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0 for Scheffe post hoc test, Pearson correlation coefficient, hierarchical regression analysis, independent sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects and values. General characteristics consisted of gender, age, grade, school record, major choice motivation, and the influencing person to choose the major. The instrument for values was modified from Shin based on MILOV(Multi-Item Measures Of Values) and two professors of dental hygiene verified the validity of the instrument. Instrument for values consisted of 7 questions of values for self-respect, 6 questions of relation oriented values, 5 questions of emotion oriented values, and 5 questions of values for others measured by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.769 in the study. The instrument for major satisfaction was modified from Na based on Program Evaluation Survey of Illinois University and two professors of dental hygiene verified the validity of the instrument. Major satisfaction consisted of 7 questions of general satisfaction, 5 questions of consciousness satisfaction, 5 questions of curriculum satisfaction and 3 questions of relation satisfaction measured by Likert 5 scale and Cronbach's alpha was 0.887 in the study. Results: Values of self-respect, relationship orientation and grade had significant influence on general satisfaction, while values of self-respect, relationship orientation and gender had significant influence on consciousness satisfaction. Values of relationship orientation, grade and school record had significant influence on curriculum satisfaction. Grade showed significant influence on relationship satisfaction. Conclusions: Values of self-respect and relationship orientation are the most important factors in dental hygiene students. The guidance for professional career and major satisfaction can be accomplished through the values of self-respect and relationship orientation.

  • The court-mandated spouse abusers with drinking problems not only resist and complain about taking the court-mandate but also have the low motivation to change their problem drinking and violent behaviors. Therefore, in this study the program is developed to decrease violent behaviors of spouse abusers with drinking problems. Also, the usefulness of this program is examined by quantitative and qualitative methods. The results are as follows: The experimental group's pre-to-post variation is decreased by significant level statistically more than the comparison group's variation in drinking problems. Regarding violent behaviors among groups, the experimental group's pre-to-post and pre-to-followup variation are decreased significantly. It is assumed that Motivation Enhancement Therapy(MET) influences the differences of motivation to change violent behaviors in both groups. The reason is that MET is considered to have influences on the group's dynamics and interaction. Also, it is helpful to change the negative emotions to the positive emotions and to stimulate the group interaction and the participation. This study will be contributed to promote the speciality on providing services for family in a domestic violence in Korea. Through this study, I suggested future implications in research, practice, and political side on spouse abusers with drinking problems.

The Relationship between Depression and Experience of Discrimination: Adolescents and Mothers of Ethnic Minority (다문화 청소년과 어머니의 차별 경험이 다문화 청소년의 우울감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: Discrimination experienced in the early stages of life among ethnic minority adolescents is known to affect depression and also adversely affect health throughout adulthood and old age. The purpose of this study was to identify whether discrimination experienced by ethnic minority adolescents and their mothers and depression among mothers affect depression in ethnic minority adolescents according to gender. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using the data of 2018 National Multicultural Family Survey in Korea. The study sample comprised 2,446 ethnic minority adolescents aged 11~18 and their mothers. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation analysis, and ordinal logistic regression with SPSS/WIN 25.0 and STATA IC 16. Results: 18.4% of the adolescents (boys: 15.1%, girls: 20.5 %) felt sad or frustrated sometimes or more often for at least two weeks during the past year. Also, 8.3% of the adolescents and 29.6% of their mothers experienced discrimination during the past year. Boys were influenced more than girls by bullying at school (OR=5.17, 95% CI: 2.85~9.38), academic performance (very bad's OR=5.79, 95% CI: 1.54~21.63) and mother's depression (often's OR=2.31, 95% CI: 1.14~4.64). Girls were influenced more than boys by experience of discrimination (OR=2.72, 95% CI: 1.69~4.39). Conclusion: The findings showed that discrimination experienced by ethnic minority adolescents and their mothers in Korean society increases depression in ethnic minority adolescents and has different effects by gender. Therefore, a gender-specific and mother-inclusive intervention is recommended to prevent depression in ethnic minority adolescents.

Study on Characteristics of Controlled Low Strength Material Using Time Domain Reflectometry (시간영역반사법을 이용한 유동성 채움재의 특성 연구)

  • The hydration process of Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) used for backfill is the primary factor to determine the construction period. The objective of this study is to monitor the hydration process of CLSM using the Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) and to establish the relationship between dielectric constant and compressive strength. The CLSM specimen is composed of cement, flyash, silt, sand, accelerator, and water. The material characteristics of the CLSM including flow, unit weight, compressive strength are investigated. To measure the dielectric constant of the CLSM during the curing time, TDR probe incorporated with a mold and a reflectometer are used. Experimental results show that the dielectric constant remains constant at early stage, and then decreases as the curing time increases. In addition, the dielectric constant is related to the compressive strength in inverse power function. This paper suggests that the TDR technique may be used as a non-destructive testing method in order to estimate the compressive strength of the CLSM mixture under construction.

Effects of Post-harvest Storage Duration and Variety on Nutrient Digestibility and Energy Content Wheat in Finishing Pigs

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of post-harvest storage duration and wheat variety on the digestibility and energy content of new season wheat fed to finishing pigs. Two wheat varieties (Shi and Zhong) were harvested in 2013 and stored in the warehouse of the Fengning Pig Experimental Base at China Agricultural University for 3, 6, 9, or 12 mo. For each storage period, 12 barrows were placed in metabolism crates and allotted to diets containing 1 of the 2 wheat varieties in a randomized complete block design. The experimental diets contained 97.34% wheat and 2.66% of a vitamin and trace mineral premix. With an extension of storage duration from 3 mo to 12 mo, the gross energy (GE) and crude protein (CP) of the wheat decreased by 2.0% and 12.01%, respectively, while the concentration of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and starch content increased by 30.26%, 19.08%, and 2.46%, respectively. Total non-starch polysaccharide, total arabinose, total xylose and total mannose contents decreased by 46.27%, 45.80%, 41.71%, and 75.66%, respectively. However, there were no significant differences in the chemical composition between the two wheat varieties with the exception of ADF which was approximately 13.37% lower in Shi. With an extension of storage duration from 3 mo to 12 mo, the digestible energy (DE), metabolizable energy (ME) content and the apparent total tract digestibility of GE, CP, dry matter, organic matter, ether extract, ADF and metabolizability of energy in wheat decreased linearly (p<0.01) by 5.74%, 7.60%, 3.75%, 3.88%, 3.50%, 2.47%, 26.22%, 27.62%, and 3.94%, respectively. But the digestibility of NDF changed quadratically (p<0.01). There was an interaction between wheat variety and storage time for CP digestibility (p<0.05), such that the CP digestibility of variety Zhong was stable during 9 mo of storage, while the CP digestibility of variety Shi decreased (p<0.05). In conclusion, the GE, DE, and ME of wheat was stable during the first 3 to 6 mo of post-harvest storage, and decreased during the following 6 to 12 mo of storage under the conditions of this study.

Perception about Problem-based Learning in Reflective Journals among Undergraduate Nursing Students (성찰일지에 기초한 간호학생의 문제중심학습 경험)

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the variation in perceptions about problem-based learning(PBL) according to the level of academic achievement and learning attitude in the nursing students of a junior college (3-year program). Method: Students (n=39) learned the respiratory and cardiac system with seven PBL packages and group-based learning for a semester in 2002. Students were asked to write reflective journals that focused on their learning perception after an experience with each learning package. A total of 208 journals were used for analysis. Result: Students positively perceived that PBL making them increase their sense of responsibility for learning and felt satisfaction with the learning process, and had a confidence in the use of clinical nursing interventions. On the other hand, they negatively perceived that PBL was a burden because it took more time than traditional learning tasks, and they experienced an anxiety about regular tests and felt conflicts and diffidences in the learning process. The negative perceptions were expressed more often from students with a low academic achievement and low learning attitude compared to others. Conclusion: Students perceived the PBL as effective in understanding the learning concepts in the clinical practice environment. Simultaneous Characterization of Sofalcone and Its Metabolite in Human Plasma by Liquid Chromatography -Tandem Mass Spectrometry

  • A sensitive and selective method for quantitation of sofalcone and its active metabolite in human plasma has been established using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS/MS). Plasma samples were transferred into 96-well plate using an automated sample handling system and spiked with 10 $\mu$L of 2 $\mu$g/mL $d_3$-sofalcone and $d_3$-sofalcone metabolite solutions (internal standard), respectively. After adding 0.5 mL of acetonitrile to the 96-well plate, the plasma samples were then vortexed for 30 sec. After centrifugation, the supernatant was transferred into another 96-well plate and completely evaporated at 40 ${^{\circ}C}$ under a stream of nitrogen. Dry residues were reconstituted with mobile phase and were injected into a $C_{18}$ reversed-phase column. The limit of quantitation of sofalcone and its metabolite was 2 ng/mL, using a sample volume of 0.2 mL for analysis. The reproducibility of the method was evaluated by analyzing 10 replicates over the concentration range of 2 ng/mL to 1000 ng/mL. The validation experiments of the method have shown that the assay has good precision and accuracy. Sofalcone and its metabolite produced a protonated precursor ion ([M+H]$^+$) of m/z 451 and 453, and a corresponding product ion of m/z 315 and 317, respectively. Internal standard ($d_3$-sofalcone and $d_3$-sofalcone metabolite) produced a protonated precursor ion ([M+H]$^+$) of m/z 454 and 456 and a corresponding product ion of m/z 315 and 317, respectively. The method has been successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of sofalcone and its active metabolite in human plasma.

Shear Wave Velocity Estimation of Railway Roadbed Using Dynamic Cone Penetration Index (동적 콘 관입지수를 이용한 철도노반의 전단파속도 추정)

  • Elastic behavior of the railway roadbed which supports the repeating dynamic loads of the train is mainly affected by the shear modulus of the upper roadbed. Therefore, shear wave velocity estimation of the uniformly compacted roadbed can be used to estimate the elastic behavior of the railway roadbed. The objective of this study is to suggest the relationship between the dynamic cone penetration index (DCPI) and the shear wave velocity ($V_s$) of the upper roadbed in order to estimate the shear wave velocity by using the dynamic cone penetration test (DCPT). To ensure the reliability of the relationship, the dynamic cone penetration test and the measurement of the shear wave velocity are conducted on the constructed upper roadbed. As a method for measurement of the shear wave velocity, cross hole is used and then the dynamic cone penetration test is performed at a center point between the source and the receiver of the cross hole. As a result of the correlation of the dynamic cone penetration index and the shear wave velocity at the same depths, the shear wave velocity is estimated as a form of involution of the dynamic cone penetration index with a determinant coefficient above 0.8. The result of this study can be used to estimate both the shear wave velocity and the strength of the railway roadbed using the dynamic cone penetrometer.

[ $CO_2$ ] Content in Golf Green Rhizosphere (골프장 putting green 근권(根圈)에서의 이산화탄소 $(CO_2)$ 함유량)

  • Anaerobic soils limit the amount of free oxygen available in the rhizosphere and therefore will impede grass root development and restrain nutrient availability for turf growth. An in-situ study was conducted on existing greens to investigate the relationship between $CO_2$ content in the rhizosphere and turf quality. Nine greens were selected in the study. On each green, five 1-m diameter circular plots were randomly selected for conducting the experiment. The greens were sampled 7 times from August, 1998 to August, 1999. Data collected from each plot included turf quality index, $CO_2$ content, and physical properties of the rooting mixtures. Turf quality declined drastically when $CO_2$ content in rhizosphere increased to $5\;to\;6{\mu}LL^{-1}$ during the late summer season. The $CO_2$ content increased as water content in the root zone increased, but was inversely related to infiltration rate. Cultivation of a golf green may reduce $CO_2$ content in the rhizosphere, but the benefit of cultivation decreased with time.
