  • In this paper, the ignition trans used in the gas boiler was produced to measure current, power factor, and power consumption. As a result of measuring the power factor, the self-made ignition trans was higher than that of foreign products and the power consumption was lower. The ignition gap was fixed to 2 m, and when the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 3.45A, 14.5A, and 16.2A. When the ignition gap was fixed to 4mm and the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 2.8A, 10.1A, and 13.2A. When the ignition gap was fixed at 6mm and the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 2.73A, 10.2A, and 32.6A. When the ignition gap was fixed at 8 mm and the ignition rod length was 30 cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 3.13A, 9.37A, and 21.4. The ignition gap was fixed at 10 mm, and when the ignition rod length was 30cm, it was measured as 3.4A, 14.4 A, and 25.6A. In conclusion, as the length of the ignition rod increased, the current also increased.

  • The spontaneous ignition of a flammable matter is a crucial factor for the prevention of a fire. The minimum ignition temperatures of Gasoline and Cenox in $1000{\mu}l$ of a sample were determined to be $340.5^{\circ}C\;and\;368.5^{\circ}C$ respectively. In addition when the time taken for ignition was 1.0 sec, the instantaneous ignition temperatures were $416^{\circ}C\;and\;427^{\circ}C$ respectively. Moreover, the changes in the minimum ignition temperature were small when less than 60 v/v% of Cenox was added, but the changes were great when 80 v/v% or more was added. Therefore, it is hypothesized that, when used as a fuel in the Gasoline engine, the ratio of the mixture of Cenox and Gasoline will be a very important factor.

  • The ignition delay time is an important factor to understand the combustion characteristics of internal combustion engine. In this study, ignition delay times of cool and thermal flame were observed separately in homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI) engine. This study presents numerical investigation of ignition delay time of n-heptane and alcohol(ethanol and n-butanol) binary fuel. The $O_2$ concentration in the mixture was set 9-10% to simulate high exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) rate condition. The numerical study on the ignition delay time was performed using CHEMKIN codes with various blending ratios and EGR rates. The results revealed that the ignition delay time increased with increasing the alcohol fraction in the mixture due to a decrease of oxidation of n-heptane at the low temperature. From the numerical analysis, ethanol needed more radical and higher temperature than n-butanol for oxidation. In addition, thermal ignition delay time is sharply increasing with decreasing $O_2$ fraction, but cool flame ignition delay time changes negligibly for both binary fuels. Also, in high temperature regime, the ignition delay time showed similar tendency with both blends regardless of blending ratio and EGR rate.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the combustion characteristics of the slinger combustor. A combustion test rig was manufactured and installed in KARI combustor test facility. From the ignition test results, we found that there were two major factors influencing the ignition limits; by increasing the rotational speed and the air mass flow rate, a better ignition performance was attained. From the combustion test results, we obtained 99.6% combustion efficiency, 15% pattern factor, and 3% profile factor. The results in this work indicate that the ignition and combustion characteristics of a slinger combustor are markedly different from those of a conventional annular combustor.

  • In this study, reliability prediction of the ignition system of hybrid rocket is performed. The FMECA is preceded to the reliability prediction. To this end, the ignition system is divided into 5 components and 19 potential failure modes. The failure cause and effects are identified and criticality analysis is carried out for each failure mode, in which the criticality number is estimated using the failure rate databases. Among the numbers, the failure modes and components with higher criticality and severity are chosen and allocated with higher weighting factor. The reliability predictions are performed using the failure rate databases, from which the current ignition system is found to satisfy the target reliability.

  • The heat released during the external frictional motion is a factor responsible for initiating energetic materials under all types of mechanical stimuli including impact, drop, or penetration. We model the friction-induced ignition of HMX, RDX and AP/HTPB propellant using the BAM friction apparatus and one-dimensional time-to-explosion apparatus whose results are used to validate the friction ignition mechanism and the deflagration kinetics of energetic materials, respectively. The ignition times for each energetic sample due to friction are presented.

  • In order to measure the acoustic amplification factor of an Al/HTPB propellant, T-burner tests using pulsed DB/AB method were conducted. In the experiment, powdered aluminum content was varied to a certain extent. Simultaneous ignition on the internal surface of a propellant was achieved by the use of a fast ignition disk. From the experimental data, the damping factor for a non-zero aluminum content could not be calculated due to the fast attenuation of perturbed pressure. Therefore, the addition of aluminum particle was more than sufficient to stabilize pressure-coupled instability.

  • Using wood pellets, which are used as fuel for thermal power generation plants, as test specimens, the minimum spontaneous ignition temperatures according to the size of the container for the test specimens were measured, and by applying the Frank-Kamenetskii theories on thermal energy to these temperatures, the danger factor of the materials were calculated by deriving the apparent activation energies. The results confirmed that the ignition threshold temperature decreased as the size of the container increased and that the spontaneous ignition energy was 37.83 kcal/mol. The results also confirmed that the larger the container for the test specimens was the time to arrive at the spontaneous ignition time and maximum temperature also increased.

  • Relations of each factor affected by emissions and the prediction of performance have been analyzed numerically by cycle simulation in the Spark Ignition Engine. Through theoretical analysis and experiments, the results are obtained as below. The calculated results and the experimental ones are almost highly agreeable on cycle simulation model, exhaust gas analysis and efficiency for processes in cylinder. Therefore this model is proved appropriate and can be useful for optimum design of Spark Ignition Engines on parametric studies. It is reaffirmed that the Wiebe's function is suitable for predicting Combustion Ration in Spark Ignition Engines. On parametric studies, it is found that optimum conditions whose density of emissions are lower and efficiency is maximum within propriety value are crankangle ATDC $15^\circ-20^\circ$, 2400 rpm. • The ignition characteristics of liquid rocket engine thrust chambers which have been developed by domestic technology were analyzed. Analysis results showed that low frequency fluctuation appeared in a partial ignition range according to different temperature profiles and vaporous state in the oxidizer manifold with startup sequences. This low frequency fluctuation wasn't developed as a malfunction factor, but this fluctuation is thought to be taken a continuous concern considering interfaces with engine system and launch vehicle.
