  • In This paper examines how "Kamishibai" was used for ideological education of children during the war. "Kamishibai" was proposed by the Ministry of Education as a methodology to "cultivate children's right concentricity. In particular, , which was produced based on a true story, highlights the father's love sent to children by obtaining chocolate wrappers from comrades, and the children's envy for chocolate. Kazuo's interview, saying, "I will succeed my father," showed that he has a continuous personality that comes with another sacrifice. After the Sino-Japanese War, the war situation intensified, and in 1940, a new edict decided to enact the "Army Support Corps". This is a measure to select eligible youth applicants from 15 to 17 years of age, after training for 4 years, and then appoint them to aviation soldiers and sergeants. This is a legal maintenance that can be put into the battlefield at any time according to the trend of the war. Just as Kazuo, a real character in "Chocolate and Soldiers", also became a "boy flight soldier" after his father's death, flying airplanes to boys at the time was also a dream that Japan's great citizens should have. In the , it is suggested that "the father enshrined in Yasukuni" is a great person, and that "I" will also grow and become a "good citizen". In particular, the two brothers in the work show the value of eternal sacrifices in Yasukuni as a typical model of the "great people".

  • Hundreds of thousands of South Korean protesters staged candlelight vigils and demonstrations against US beef imports in 2008. The problems, however, went far beyond that of beef imports. The political party veterans, who lost the presidential election, exploited labor unions that were discontent with the economy and ideological student groups to weaken the majority party. In this study, an epidemiological model is constructed with a system of three nonlinear differential equations. The model seeks to examine the dynamics of the system through stability analysis. Two threshold conditions that spread the protests are identified and a sensitivity analysis on the conditions is performed to isolate the parameters to which the system is most responsive. The results are also explored by deterministic simulations. This model can be easily modified to apply to other protests that may occur in various circumstances.

  • What an individual values and regards as important has a significant impact on his or her learning. Classroom instruction would be even more effective if what the teacher regards as important in his or her pedagogical practice are aligned with what students regard as important too. Given this background, this study sought to find out what Korean students valued about mathematics and mathematics learning using a questionnaire developed by Seah (2005). The participants were 409 students from Grade 6 and 407 students from Grade 9 in Korea. The results of this study showed that students put the biggest emphasis on ideological aspects of mathematics, specifically rationalism, among mathematical values. The students also valued product, computation, process, exposition, and recalling among values related to the learning of mathematics. A comparative analysis between the two groups of students showed that sixth graders tended to think more positively with regards to each value than ninth graders. On the basis of these results, this paper raises some issues about students' values in mathematics learning. It also suggests that teachers need to consider what students value and regard as important in their mathematics learning to bring about even more effective instruction.
