Objectives: It is hard to accumulate research data on adolescents' suicide, because friends and family of the suicide completers might be reluctant to share the experience. To overcome the lack of information on adolescent suicide victims, the authors examined the risk and protective factors for adolescents' suicide from a character in a novel. Methods: Krystal, an adolescent female in the novel The Casual Vacancy by Joanne Rowling, failed to overcome her unfortunate circumstances and committed suicide. The authors analysed Krystal's case based on the guideline for patients with suicidal behaviours to address the complicated situation of her death. Results: Krystal grew up in a poor and dangerous environment. Despite the environmental hardships, she developed ego maturation with affectionate help from Mr Fairbrother, an assistant coach of the Girls' Rowing Team and a parish councillor. The sudden passing away of Mr Fairbrother brought on a crisis of identity for Krystal. In addition, a villainous character raped her and her brother drowned to death, which brought her great sorrow. She felt helpless and committed suicide. Conclusion: In spite of many risk factors for suicide, Krystal was able to keep her life with a few protective factors, a younger brother in the home, and a sense of responsibility for the family. After the loss of her brother, however, she collapsed in a moment. Krystal's suicide might not only be a personal choice but a breakdown of the social protection system for the youth.

Unlike in the past, standards for the quantity and quality of work expected from medical school faculty are continuously rising, causing changes and stress in various areas. This highlights the need for career development among medical school faculty for professional, personal, organizational, and societal reasons. The role of medical school faculty has become more diverse, leading to an increase in the types and levels of competencies required. Medical schools must support their faculty members with diverse identities in fully utilizing their capabilities to achieve the institution's mission. Furthermore, societal changes suggest that career development for medical school faculty will become even more crucial in the future. To achieve this, both individuals and organizations must make efforts and play appropriate roles. For this purpose, medical schools use a combination of promotion and tenure evaluations and faculty development programs, while individual faculty members follow a career path within the medical school environment. Medical school faculty must be able to meet the evolving demands at each stage of their careers. It is important for professors, who engage in career development, to have a clear sense of their identity and values, and to prioritize their career goals. Medical schools should also ensure that the implicit messages they convey align with the organization's explicit values. Finally, proactively preparing for future changes in society and generations is essential from a long-term perspective.

This study observes the language attitude and maintenance of the border community in Telok Melano, Lundu (Sarawak, Malaysia) and Desa Temajuk, Sambas (West Kalimantan, Indonesia). The main objective of this study is to study the language attitudes of two cross-border community who shares the socio-cultural, language, and economic realms. The research data is collected qualitatively through conversation recordings, face-to-face interviews, and participant observations. In this preliminary study, twelve informants (six from Telok Melano and six from Desa Temajuk) were chosen based on the quota sampling method. The questions for the interview were set according to three characteristics of language choice proposed by Garvin and Mathiot (1968), namely language loyalty, language pride, and the awareness of norms. The result of this study indicates that language loyalty, language pride, and awareness of the norms towards the speakers' mother tongue and national language are relatively high. In terms of identity maintenance issues, this study found that the community in Telok Melano (Sarawak), originally identify themselves as "Sambas Malays," shifted to "Sarawak Malays" after the formation of Malaysia in 1963. This preliminary study serves as a basis for further research particularly on the complexity of issues concerned with the border communities in the Southwest of Sarawak.

Eugene O'Neill's one-act play Before Breakfast (1916) depicts a morning scene of a married couple who live in a slovenly flat at Greenwich Village. There is no apparent dramatic action occurring in the play. Instead, the play is full of Mrs. Rowland's incessant complaints about her husband Alfred's loafing around bars with artists friends, neglecting his role as breadwinner. An irony is that every morning she prepares breakfast for the good-for-nothing husband even in the moment of complaining. It is worth noting that Alfred is an 'unseen character' who is never directly observed by the audience but is only described by her wife. Deprived of all chances to speak and present himself on stage, he is kept in the room throughout the play. In contrast, Mrs. Rowland dominates the stage, monopolizing language and action. The audience has to listen to her, judge from her statements, and take her one-sided complaints. The accused husband, with zero chance of showing up and defending himself, has no choice but to be the sinner as the wife intends. Another irony is that the audience's feeling about the situation is quite different from what is expected. The wife's complaints are regarded to be unfair and groundless in the reason that the situation is monopolized by her. In case of the husband, in contrast, the loss of voice and presence stresses the injustice of his dead-lock situation. In other words, the 'absent' quality of Alfred works to evoke the audience's sympathy for himself and subsequently makes his presence recognized, not visually but emotionally, by the audience throughout the play. Discovered in this paradoxical moment where the spectators understand or 'see' the status of the unseen and the devoiced message is successfully conveyed to the listeners, is the theatricality of absence. Adding to the function as theatrical device, the 'unseen character' Alfred works as a device of self-reflection to mirror the author's own life. Alfred, the alter-ego of O'Neill, effectively exorcises the author's life-long feeling of guilty as the unfaithful husband and father in the unhappy first marriage, successfully evoking the audience's sympathy for himself.

The purpose of this study is multicultural adolescents' family reconstruction and maladaptation. Six multicultural adolescents living in Seoul, Gyeonggido, Chungchungdo, Jeolado were selected for the in-depth interview. Data were collected from August to December, 2019. This research is Giorgi's phenomenological method. The results provided 10 themes on the essential structure of experience and 4 theme clusters. The final 10 themes were unintentional choice: immigration, unfamiliar family relationship forming, unacceptable dissatisfaction and anger, absence of belonging and promising, missing homeland, keeping close relationship with old friends, difficulty of learning, following Korea culture, identity crisis and wandering, difficulty in adaptation : addiction to games and misdemeanour. Therefore, it is suggested to announce importance of family meaning and adaptation in Korea society.

This paper discusses how the traditional cuisine of Korea capitalizes on "nostalgia" for the past. While examining the (re)invention of Buddhist cuisine and Andong food, this paper contends that traditional Korean cuisine is commodified through a process of de-contexualization. This paper first discusses the possibility that the idea of traditional cuisine is an invention in the first place. The history of temple food, for instance, suggests that it was created as a vehicle for circulating and implementing the ruling ideology in the ancient societies of China. This paper then turns to the issue of the growing influence of traditional cuisine in contemporary Korean culture, which is related to the public's demand for healthy food and also tied with the South Korean society's need for promoting a national cuisine in the age of globalization. The rise of traditional cuisine is a sign that people are seeking to reform their eating habits and form a counterculture. Yet, another side of the story is that consumers end up taking part in the self-expanding capitalist market with more consumer choices rather than forming a genuine counterculture. In this respect, the reinvention of temple food is closely related to what Jean and John L. Comaroff call the "emergence of consumption as a privileged site for the fabrication of self and society, of culture and identity".

The USIM(universal subscriber identity module)-unlock introducing in July 1, 2008 might be led to a significant change that mobile service provider's dominance is considerably dispersed to the handset manufacturer and distributor. Under USIM-unlock environment, mobile service provider, handset manufacturer, and distributor have to make their decisions on their handset distribution channel strategies: the closed distribution channel strategy or the open distribution channel strategy. The change of distribution channel strategy between members in distribution channel can be understood as a matter of strategy choice, and we have developed a theoretical model and analyzed how to make a decision for the member's optimal distribution strategy based on 3-person game model between members of mobile phone distribution channel, under both of '1 subscriber-1 handset' and '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumptions. Under '1 subscriber-1 handset' assumption, the closed strategy controlled by mobile service provider is all players' optimal solution because the maximum size of the mobile phone market is limited by subscribers. But, as total expected profit by the handset and distribution subsides is a deficit, mobile service provider have to choose the open strategy and consider the conversion to MNO(mobile network operator). Under '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumption, mobile service provider is trying to find the way how to lock-in its service and mobile phone and how to maximize ARPU(average revenue per unit), while handset manufacturer and distributor have to look for the way how to maximize the mobile phone market using their own marketing efforts, because it is expected that total mobile handset demand for the open market is bigger than demand for the closed market under '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumption.

본 연구는 지역이 가지고 있는 중요한 자원을 자연 생태적 요소, 역사 문화적 요소, 시각 환경적 요소 등으로 분류한 후 충남지역 16개 시 군을 대상으로 군의 상징적 요소로서 가치 있는 자원의 발굴과 동시에 개발에 밀려 점점 사라져가는 농산어촌 대표경관의 추출을 통해 자원의 중요성을 AHP(계층 분석적 의사 결정기법)모델을 통해 분석하여 상호 중요도를 파악하고자 한다. 이러한 연구를 통해 지역의 대표적인 상징적 요소와 경관적 요소의 상관성을 파악함과 동시에 중요도에 따라 순위(ranking ordering)를 결정함으로서 지역의 정체성(identity)을 확보하고, 향후 보전할 자원의 특성을 파악함으로써 지역의 문화적, 환경적, 생태적 자원가치의 패러다임을 구축하고자 한다. 연구방법은 1차적으로 문헌조사를 통한 지역의 자원특성에 대한 분류체계를 설정한 후 전문가 집단을 선정하여 설문조사를 통한 통계적 분석방법을 사용하고자 한다. 전문가 집단은 지역에 대한 비교적 잘 파악하고 있는 지역전문가(관련대학 교수, 공무원, 연구원 등)로 구성하였으며, 1, 2차 설문을 통한 상징성 및 대표경관자원을 최종적으로 선정한 후, 3차 설문에서는 농촌 및 경관관련 전문가 집단을 재선정하여 AHP(계층 분석적 의사결정)기법을 통한 자원의 중요도를 파악하고자 한다. 분석방법은 자료의 계량적 분석을 위해 통계프로그램인 SPSS 12.0 for Windows와 도출된 상징요소의 가중치를 파악하기 위해 AHP 프로그램인 ExpertChoice 2006을 사용하여 도출된 상징요소의 가중치별 순위를 측정하여 분석의 과학성, 논리성, 타당성을 확보하고자 한다.

Furniture can be a product of design and is considered a form of a decorative art. Architectural works are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art. Korean traditional architectural form and wooden furniture were improved by adding up an organic coordination in the interior space. Furniture adds beauty of life by being coordinated with the interior space with its particular characteristic in the form of architectural structure. Architecture and furniture are also being improved in a more natural and diverse way. Therefore, in this research, from the choice of the location, Korean traditional architecture is considered to be coordinated with the nature, and the technical skill is lessened to express its beauty. There is a presence of elegance yet robust combination of simplicity and beauty. In addition, the traditional architecture and wooden furniture are completely expressed structurally with coordination of the outstanding design and solid structure according to the thrifty living in the Confucian ideas which influenced the Korean traditional society. The representative of Korean traditional architecture, Baeheulrim pillar, has worked as motive because of its visual comfort caused by optical illusion and formative elements. The small portable dining table (Soban) which reflects the characteristic of Korean unique tradition and the sensitivity of Koreans has been reinterpreted through the motive in this research. As a result, it has shown the possibility as the design element to change the aesthetic structure. In the modern society, cultural identity plays a vital role. Therefore, this research can be used as reference for the new concept of furniture - making. It could be a combination of modern people, lifestyle and living space by creating the Korean image suitable for the modern society.

Domestic industries are facing the open era as a result of signing the Korea-U.S. FTA with no exception to the financial industry. The FFA between two countries is expected to produce pros and cons for domestic financial industry. Therefore, it is very important to minimize the shock caused by opening our financial market and to adopt the advanced financial tools actively. Signing the Korea-U.S. FTA and enforcing the Integration Law of Capital Market are leading a big crisis to the Savings Banks which have been shrinking under the dramatically changing domestic financial environment since the financial crisis. To cope with financial globalization, Korean Savings Banks are demanded to build up their concrete identity and reposition their status. This is related to shaping the long-term position of domestic financial industry. Therefore, the Savings Banks must take the growth strategy for their survival, and it is an inescapable choice. Several options are available: big scale operation and diversification of business functions, reinforcement of local-focused mediating function of funds, establishment of strategic alliance with other financial firms, reinforcement of risk management system and core competence, nourishment and employment of professional manpower, and active deregulation and policy support. When the Savings Banks are refurbished as an independent local bank performing the central role of local finance, the bright future can be their destiny under the enormously changing global financial environment. Also, two more conditions need to be satisfied: to establish horizontal networks among local banks directed by cooperative Korea Federation of Savings Banks to reverse the weak scale position, and to satisfy their own peculiar niche market with internal countermeasure to face global financial networks.
