A thermal-hydraulic code, named CUPID, has been developed for the analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components. A two-fluid three-field model was used for steam-water two-phase flows. To obtain numerical solutions, the finite volume method was applied over unstructured cell-centered meshes. In steam-water two-phase flows, a phase change, i.e., evaporation of condensation, results in a great change in the flow field because of substantial density difference between liquid and vapor phases. Thus, two-phase flows are very sensitive to the local pressure that determines the phase change. This in turn puts emphasis on the accurate evaluation of local pressure gradient. This paper presents a new numerical scheme to evaluate the pressure gradient at cell centers on unstructured meshes. The results of the new scheme for a simple test function a gravity-driven cavity, and a wall boiling two-phase flow are compared with those of the previous schemes in the cupid code.

In this paper, we developed the ice machine conditions monitoring system that confirms conditions of the ice machine. The developed system is composed of Communication Board, Server Program, and Web-based User Application. Communication Board which is connected to the ice machine periodically sends various data, such as current, voltage, the refrigerant pressure and temperature, the external temperature and humidity. Server Program stores the data received from Communication Board into database. The manager or the ice machine operator can see the state of the own machine through User Application based on Web. When a symptom is detected on the ice machine, the manager and the operator can checks the current condition of the ice machine by using the data obtained in real time and also prevents the machine troubles by taking proper actions.

The water purifier market has increased rapidly in recent years. The welding technology of the evaporator is a key component that determines the level of ice production and the cold water performance of an ice purifier. The finger type evaporator of an ice purifier can remove ice and is divided largely into an instant heat method and a hot gas method. In the hot gas type evaporator, particularly during the production process, the pinhole phenomenon inside the copper pipe and clogging problems occur intermittently when welding high-pressure pipes due to the high-temperature oxygen welding. Its use in a water purifier can cause a problem in that ice and cold water do not form, and repairs cannot be made on site. To solve this problem, in this study, a cap jig was applied to improve the welding defect of the hot gas evaporator. In addition, the oxygen welding flame size was adjusted so that the heat source could be well supplied to the cap jig, and the effectiveness was confirmed through a wave pressure test, a test, and a thermal shock test.

Supercooled type ice slurry system is hard to keep a proper supercooling degree when solution becomes supercooling state. This is the reason of the ice blockage in pipe or cooling part due to an unstable cooling state. In this study, a cooling experiment was performed to pressurized solution in a stationary state. The behaviors during the supercooled aqueous solution were investigated at fixed flow rate of brine and aqueous solution of ethylene glycol 7 mass%. Also the effect to the freezing point of supercooled aqueous solution was investigated to the different pressure 101, 202, 303, and 404 kPa. At results, the pressure of the aqueous solution in the cylinder increased the supercooling degree increased and dissolution of supercooled point decreased.

District heating and cooling systems offer highly efficient energy utilization and maintenance by centralizing heat management. More pumping power, however, is required because the water has to travel long distance from heat source to the users. In the present study, a trace of drag reduction additives is added to the District Cooling system to achieve a significant drag reduction and save pumping power. Water-soluble polymers, surfactants, and environment-friendly degradable polymers are used as effective drag reducing additives. Time dependent percent drag reductions are compared for various additive solutions at 100 wppm concentration for different water velocity. Without as an anionic surfactant, copolymer was most effective in percent drag reduction. It is found that there exists an optimal condition when copolymer is mixed with SDS. An environment-friendly degradable polymer, xanthan gum, is found to be a significant drag reduction additive. Ice slurry systems, can give less pressure drops compared with chilled water system for certain condtions. Drag reduction additives were also effective for the ice slurry system.
Freon gas has been replaced with LPG in the cosmetic industry because of its bad effects on environment. In this paper, skincare product with a cooling effect was developed using LPG as propellant. A cooling effect is obtained by the ice which is formed through spraying. Ice formation is affected by the composition of LPG and most of all, the high content of propane gas in the LPG results in the irregular surface of ice formed because of its high vapor pressure. Also the ratio of LPG to skincare solution affects the formation of ice.

Three dimensional characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer have been studied numerically around the latent heat storage vessel which was applied to the practical ice-storage system. The result obtained indicates that the value of frictional coefficient decreases with decrease of baffle width. For the baffle spacing. $S/H_D=9.375$, baffle height. $H/H_D=0.5$ and various pressure drop, average Nusselt numbers in heat transfer surface are much dependent on the width of side baffle and middle baffle. that is. Nu_m decreases with decrease of the width of middle baffle when the width of side baffle is 4.375, where as the optimum condition of side baffle for $Nu_m$ exists in the range of 3.5< $B_1/H_D$ <4.375 at the width of middle baffle, $B_2/H_D=6.875$.
To obtain the basic data on precooling effects for establishment the suitable postharvest handling technique or method of keeping high quality of vegetalble corn, the sweet, supersweet and waxy corn, (Danok #2, Cocktail #86 and Chalok #1), being mainly consumed as vegetables in Korea, were precooled with ice or vacuum cooling method immediately after harvest. The vacuum cooling was the most effective for the field heat removal of vegetable corn. It took only 30 min. at 4 to 5 torr of cold chamber pressure of vacuum precooler to lower the corn temperature from 30 to 2$^{\circ}C$. The ice cooling was also thought to be a useful precooling method with relatively short cooling time of 6 hrs. The vegetable corn treated with vacuum or ice cooling showed low and stable respiration rates of 25.5 to 43.5 CO2 mg/kg/hr. when stored at 0∼2$^{\circ}C$ while the samples stored at room temperature (20∼25$^{\circ}C$) without precooling were as high as 64.1 to 245 CO, mg/kg/hr.

Drop-in tests were conducted using R290/R32 (31:69) or R290/DME (65:35) mixture in a ice-cream maker for possible replacement of R-502 and R-404A. At the standard room temperature ($20^{\circ}C$), the time required for initial ice-cream making was 4'7' for R290/32, 4'39' for R404A and 4'59' for R290/DME. The electric energy consumed was 436 kJ for R290/32, 425 kJ for R404A and 439 kJ for R290/DME. The mass flow rate as well as the temperature and pressure data are also provided.
