중국의 민족식별과 민족자치구역 설정 :공간적 전략과 그 효과 (The Identification of Nationalities and the Establishment of Minority Nationality Autonomous Regions in the People′s Republic of China: The Spatial Strategy and Its Effects)

  • 이 논문은 중국 민족정책의 특징이라 할 수 있는 민족식별과 민족자치구역 설정에 내재된 공간적 전략과 그 효과에 대해 검토한다. 중국의 민족식별과 자치구역의 설정은, 전통적인 정체성의 기초를 약화시키고 민족을 지역화시킴으로써, 소수민족들을 중국 내의 확고한 인민으로 전환시키는 국가통합과정의 일부라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 과정에서 민족 식별에 있어서 기준의 자의성, 국가에 의한 인구의 재배치 그리고 민족자치구역의 설정 및 영역 조정이 중요한 역할을 하였다. 이러한 과정은 보다 상위의 개념으로서 '중국민족' 혹은 '중화민족'이라는 정체성을 구성하려는 국가의 의도와 맞물려 있었지만, 그렇게 식별된 민족과 구획된 영역을 따라서 새로운 개별 민족적 정체성을 창출하게 되는 과정이기도 하였다.

로컬 히스토그램 명세화에 기반한 화질 개선 (Image Enhancement Based on Local Histogram Specification)

  • In this paper we propose an image enhancement technique based on histogram specification method over local overlapping regions referred as Local Histogram Specification. First, both reference and original images are splitted into local regions that each overlaps half of its adjacent regions and general histogram specification method is used between corresponding local regions of reference and original image. However it produces noticeable boundary effects. Linear weighted image blending method is used to reduce this effect in order to make seamless image and we also proposed new technique dealing with over-enhanced contrast areas. We satisfied with our experimental results that showed better enhancement accuracy and less noise amplifications compared to other well-known image enhancement methods. We conclude that the proposed method is well suited for motion detection systems as a responsible part to overcome sudden illumination changes.

Reversible Data Hiding Algorithm Based on Pixel Value Ordering and Edge Detection Mechanism

  • Reversible data hiding is an algorithm that has ability to extract the secret data and to restore the marked image to its original version after data extracting. However, some previous schemes offered the low image quality of marked images. To solve this shortcoming, a new reversible data hiding scheme based on pixel value ordering and edge detection mechanism is proposed. In our proposed scheme, the edge image is constructed to divide all pixels into the smooth regions and rough regions. Then, the pixels in the smooth regions are separated into non overlapping blocks. Then, by taking advantages of the high correlation of current pixels and their adjacent pixels in the smooth regions, PVO algorithm is applied for embedding secret data to maintain the minimum distortion. The experimental results showed that our proposed scheme obtained the larger embedding capacity. Moreover, the greater image quality of marked images are achieved by the proposed scheme than that other previous schemes while the high EC is embedded.

Molecular Analysis of Exophiala Species Using Molecular Markers

  • Genetic relatedness of medically important Exophiala species such as E. dermatitidis, E. mansonii, and three E. jeanselmei varieties: jeanselmei, lecanii-corni, and heteromorpha was examined using PCR-RFLP(restriction fragment length polymorphism) of ribosomal DNA, M-13, $(GTG)_5$ and nucleotide sequences of ribosomal ITS(internal transcribed space) II regions. Three E. jeanselmei varieties showing distinct band patterns for each DNA markers as well as different nucleotide sequences of ribosomal ITS II regions could be considered as a separate species. E. dermatitidis and E. mansonii demonstrated the identical band patterns of RFLP of ribosomal DNA, M-13, and $(GTG)_5$ markers. However, nucleotides sequences of ribosomal ITS II region were different between these two species.

Phylogeny and Morphology of Sarcopodium terrigenum sp. nov., a Novel Fungal Species Isolated from Soil in Korea

  • A fungal strain was isolated from a soil sample collected in Korea and designated as YW23-8. Based on a sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the isolate was assigned to the genus Sarcopodium. Moreover, a phylogenetic analysis based on the concatenated nucleotide sequences of the ITS regions and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA (LSU) gene showed that the strain YW23-8 occupies a distinct phylogenetic position within Sarcopodium. The isolate had significant differences from its closest neighbors, S. circinosetiferum, S. circinatum, S. macalpinei, and S. vanillae. Morphological features such as different conidial structures, the absence of septation in conidia, and the presence of milky white watery droplets along with the results of the phylogenetic analysis clearly distinguish YW23-8 from the closest Sarcopodium species. We therefore conclude that strain YW23-8 represents a novel species of the genus Sarcopodium for which we propose the name Sarcopodium terrigenum.

Cell Cycle Regulated Expression of Subcloned Chicken H3 Histone Genes and Their 5' Flanking Sequences

  • We subcloned two chicken H3 histone genes and transfected them into Rat 3 cell line. One contains 300 bp 5' to its cap site and the other contains 130 bp 5' to its cap site when cloned into plasm ids. Both of them showed 5' phase specific expression of their mRNA about 8 fold higher (during 5' phase) than during Gl phase. This means that only 130 bp 5' to its cap site was enough to confer cell cycle regulated expression of the latter gene. The DNA sequences of their 5' flanking region did not reveal any particular homologies or subtype-specific sequences. The DNA sequence data also showed that even though the protein coding regions of the histone genes have been conserved exceptionally well throughout evolution, their 5' untranslated regions have not been conserved as well.

Evaluating phylogenetic relationships in the Lilium family using the ITS marker

  • Lilium is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the liriotypes genus. Our aim was to study the phylogenetic relationships of the Lilium family. Two varieties of Lilium ledebourii, 44 varieties of the gene bank, and one variety from the Tulipa family served as the out group. In order to study the diversity between lilium masses, ITS regions were used to design the marker. The results showed that the guanine base is the most abundant nucleotide. Relatively high conservation was observed in the ITS regions of the populations (0.653). Phylogenetic analysis showed that sargentiae and hybrid varieties are older than other varieties of the Lilium family. Also, the location of L. ledebourii varieties (Damash and Namin) was identified in a phylogenetic tree by using the ITS marker. Overall, our research showed that ITS molecular markers are very suitable for phylogenetic studies in the Lilium family.

서울 및 지방에 거주하는 초등학교 고학년 남녀 아동들의 식습관, 식행동 및 식품섭취빈도 (Food Habits, Eating Behaviors and Food Frequency by Gender and among Seoul and Other Regions in Upper-Grade Elementary School Children)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the differences in food habits, eating behaviors and food frequency by gender and regions in upper grade elementary school children in Korea. Subjects of this study were 1,211 children, 645 boys and 566 girls, attending 6 elementary schools (4th, 5th and 6th graders). 389 children lived in Seoul and 822 children lived in other regions. Mean height, weight and BMI of subjects were 142.4 cm, 38.7 kg and $18.8\;kg/m^2$ respectively. 70.5% of the subjects had breakfast every day and 12.4% of the subjects skipped breakfast. There were significant differences between boys and girls in causes of skipping breakfast, overeating, meal volume, and duration of meals. Girls showed more desirable eating behavior than boys (p < 0.001). Scores for specific eating behaviors such as unbalanced diet and intake of meats and vegetables were better in girls (p < 0.001), and boys ate meals faster than girls (p > 0.001). There were significant differences between Seoul and other regions in eating behavior. Eating behavior scores of children in other regions were higher than in Seoul (p < 0.01). Children in Seoul had a higher frequency of watching television with meals. Frequency of fruits (p < 0.001), milk products (p < 0.01), and meats (p < 0.05) of children in Seoul were higher than other regions. Otherwise the frequency of simple sugar products of children in other regions was higher than Seoul (p < 0.001). Frequency of green vegetables was higher for girls than boys, and frequency of fast foods was higher for boys than girls. These results showed that in nutrition education programs designed to improve the nutritional health of elementary school children, we need to focus more on differences in the children's food habits and eating behaviors by gender and regions. In consideration of these differences, such educational programs need to have a different emphasis for each gender and regions to serve its specific needs.

Luminosity function and size distribution of HII regions in M51

  • We present a study of HII regions in M51 using HST/ACS images taken as part of the Hubble Heritage Program. We found about 19,600 HII regions in M51 with $H_{\alpha}$ luminosity in the range of $L=10^{35.5}-10^{39.0}\;erg\;s^{-1}$. The $H_{\alpha}$ luminosity function of HII regions (HII LF) in M51 is well represented by a double power law with its index ${\alpha}=-2.25{\pm}0.02$ for the bright part and ${\alpha}=-1.42{\pm}0.01$ for the faint part, separated at a break point $L=10^{37.1}\;erg\;s^{-1}$. Comparison with simulated HII LFs suggests that this break is caused by the transition of HII region ionizing sources, from low-mass clusters (including several OB stars) to more massive clusters (including several tens of OB stars). The HII LFs with L < $10^{37.1}\;erg\;s^{-1}$ are found to have different slopes for different parts in M51: the HII LF for the interarm region is steeper than those for the arm and the nuclear regions. This observed difference in HII LFs can be explained by evolutionary effects: HII regions in the interarm region are relatively older than those in the other parts of M51. The size distribution of the HII regions is fitted by a double power law with a break at D = 30 pc. The power law index for the small HII regions with 15 pc < D < 30 pc is ${\alpha}=-1.78{\pm}0.04$, whereas ${\alpha}=-5.04{\pm}0.08$ for the large HII region with 30 pc < D < 110 pc. The power law indices of the size distribution are related with those of HII LF, and the relation between the luminosities and sizes of HII regions is fitted well by $L{\propto}D^{3.04{\pm}}$.

서비스산업에서의 지역별 고용률의 변화에 대한 분석 연구 (A Analytical Study on the Change of Regional Employment Rate in the Service Industry)

  • 서비스업에서의 고용률 및 전체 고용률에 대한 상대비율이 최근 수년 동안 매우 많이 변화되었다. 이러한 변화는 지역적으로 매우 큰 차이를 보이고 있으며 특히, 수도권 지역과 수도권 이외 지역과의 차이가 매우 크게 나타나고 있다. 본 연구의 주요 결과로서 서비스업에서의 평균 고용률은 수도권이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 서비스업에서 고용률의 시기별 변화는, 수도권은 지속적으로 개선되는 추세를 보인 반면에 수도권 이외의 지역은 서로 다른 양상이 나타나고 있다. 또한, 서비스업에서 고용률의 상대비율은 수도권과 강원권이 다른 권역에 비해 상대적으로 가장 높게 나타나고 있으며 시기별 변화도 이 두 권역이 다른 권역에 비해 상대적으로 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다. 마지막으로 서비스업에서의 평균 고용률이나 상대비율을 시도별로 비교해 보면 광역시가 도 지역에 비해 상대적으로 높게 나타나고 있으나, 시기별 변화를 비교해 보면 각 권역마다 서로 다른 양상을 보이는 것으로 나타났다.
