  • The performance of US economy in the last cecade is considered to be driven by the IT investment. However, the causal relationship has not been conclsive between IT investment and economic performance, which makes a decision in IT investment tricky. IT as a growth strategy is critical to the developing countries which experienced resource constraint. In case IT acts as a driving force in the new technology paradigm, the less investment in IT will continue to which the growth gap between countries. When IT dose not make a significant contribution to growth, heavy investment in IT means misallocations of resources.   • 생산함수이론을 이용하는 대부분의 연구는 IT활용의 결과로 경제 성장을 보고 있다. 그러나 몇몇 연구들은 경제 성장을 IT 투자의 결정요인으로 보고 있다. 이러한 결과가 산업 수준에서도 유효한지를 조사하기 위하여, 이 연구는 미국의 1997년부터 2007년까지의 산업 자료를 이용하여 양방향 인과성 분석이 가능한 그레인저 인과성 분석을 수행하였다. 많은 산업에서 IT 투자는 경제 성장에 영향을 주었으며, 몇몇 산업에서 경제 성장이 IT 투자에 영향을 주었으며, 몇몇 산업에서는 IT 투자와 경제 성장은 아무런 영향 관계가 없었다. 산업 수준의 IT자본과 산업총생산을 국가 수준으로 합산한 시계열 자료를 이용한 분석에서는 IT 투자와 경제 성장은 어떠한 영향 관계가 없었으나, 산업 특성과 시간 특성을 고려하는 산업 수준의 패널 자료를 이용한 분석에서는 양방향 인과 관계가 발견되었다. 이러한 결과는 IT 생산성 역설의 이유였을 수도 있다.

IT투자가 노동수요에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Impact of IT Investment on Demand for Labor)

  • 고용 없는 성장이 지속되는 가운데, IT가 고용에 미치는 영향에 대한 논란이 지속되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 2003년부터 2008년까지 총 6년간 국내의 매출액 1,000억 원 이상 498개 기업을 대상으로 IT투자가 노동수요에 미치는 영향을 실증분석 하였다. 본 연구결과, 일부 서비스업을 제외한 대부분의 산업에서 IT투자가 노동수요를 증대시키는 것으로 나타났다. 제조업의 경우 IT투자가 증가할수록 노동수요는 증가하나, IT투자에 따른 노동수요탄력성은 작아 IT투자는 저(低)숙련 노동과는 대체관계에 있고 고(高)숙련 노동과는 보완관계에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전력 가스 및 건설업 역시 IT투자가 증가할수록 노동수요가 증가하며, IT투자에 따른 노동수요탄력성이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 서비스산업의 경우, 생산자 서비스업에서만 IT투자가 증가할수록 노동수요가 증가하였으며, IT투자에 따른 노동수요탄력성도 큰 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 유통 서비스업과 사회 서비스업에서는 IT투자와 노동수요 간에 유의한 관계가 발견되지 않았다.

Performance Evaluation of National R&D Investment in Information Technology Areas

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to evaluating the performance of the national R&D investment in IT(Information Technology) areas in terms of paper, patent and commercialization, and seeking ways to improve the efficiency of the national R&D investment. This is because the government has focused the national R&D investment on IT areas for some time. For that purpose, we gather data on investments, papers, patents, and commercializations for the government sponsored R&D projects in IT areas through National Science & Technology Information Service. From which, we summarize the investment and performance in terms of papers, patents, and commercializations for each IT area, evaluate efficiency per R&D investment for each IT area, and compare the efficiencies among IT areas. Finally, we drive implications for efficiency enhancement and strategic R&D budget allocation for each IT area.

Preemptive or Catch Up? Performance Differences under Enterprise Digital Transformation

  • The use of on-premises technology in the business environment to create a competitive advantage is ushering in a new era known as digital transformation. As the foundation of digital transformation of enterprises, information technology still has a paradoxical effect on enterprises. This paper documents the effect of investments in IT on a firm's long-term profitability performance measures as return on assets (ROA), as well as tests whether the earlier entrant and the later entrant are different in IT investment performance. Using a sample of China's public firms IT investment data between 2016 and 2019, the result indicates that IT investment in firms have a positive effect on firm performance in full sample, but not in the financial industry firms. When it comes to the different investment time, the result shows no significant difference between the earlier entrant firm and the later entrant firm in the full sample, but not in the case of software industry sample. This should help alleviate the concerns that some have expressed about the viability of digital transformation given the highly publicized IT investment and implementation problems at some firms.

금융산업에서 IT투자와 경영성과의 상관관계에 관한 실증적 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Correlation of IT Investment and Management Performance in the Financial Industry)

  • The study investigated if IT investment in Korean financial markets for the past 18 years has grown following the s-curve pattern based on Nolan's growth model in order to find the correlation between IT investment and management performance in the financial industry. According to the research finding it can be said that the overall financial markets maintain s-curve pattern, and IT investment is related to management performance, particularly increase in total assets and net profit. However, each sector has defining features of growth patterns. The banking industry has grown similarly to the s-curve, and the insurance industry also shows the s-curve but it looks more like linear pattern. In terms of securities industry, its growth patterns can hardly be considered s-curve due to the irregular changes. his research outcome illustrates the analysis of IT growth patterns in the financial industry and thus, it is expected to be a useful reference when deciding the appropriate time for IT investment in the financial industry.

As with any investment, executives are concerned with maximizing the performance from their investment in IT. This study focused on the relationship between IT strategy and IT investment to maximize IT performance. A field survey of chief information officer of Korea manufacturing sector was conducted. Complete data for 147 firms was analyzed to determine relationship of the three research constructs. The study shows a positive relationship between IT strategic orientation, IT investment direction, and performance of IT. The research results provide empirical evidence that supports the research hypothesis that closer fit between IT strategies and IT investment directions does lead to increase operational and competitive performance of IT

  • 조직에서 IT 활용성은 확대 되었으나 경기 침체로 인한 IT 투자 위축으로 제한적인 자원의 활용이 필요하게 되었다. 아울러 조직의 최고 경영자들은 산업 성장기에 지속적으로 증가 되어온 IT 투자성과가 조직성과에 기여하고 있는지에 대한 검토가 필요하게 되었다. 이러한 요구사항은 IT 효과성을 측정하고 비즈니스 리스크를 최소화할 수 있는 실질적인 방안으로 IT 거버넌스를 강화하게 되었고, 이에 따라 IT 투자의사결정 구조이 정비, IT 가치 평가 강화, IT 투자성과평가 프로세스의 정립 등을 대안으로 추진하였다. 본 논문에서는 IT 투자성과가 실질적인 IT성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 관하여 IT 투자성과 관리체계를 구성하는 항목과 프로세스 성숙도를 구성하는 항목이 사용자 만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석함으로써 규명하고자 한다. 그리고 이러한 영향 분석을 통하여 궁극적으로 조직성과의 향상을 강화할 수 있는 실용적인 IT 투자성과 모델을 제시하고자 한다.

  • With the emergence of new ICT technologies, information security threats are becoming more advanced, intelligent, and diverse. Even though the awareness of the importance of information security increases, the information security budget is not enough because of the lack of effectiveness measurement of the information security investment. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the information security investment in each business environment to minimize the cost of operating the information security countermeasures and mitigate the damages occurred from the information security breaches. In this paper, using genetic algorithms we propose an investment optimization model for information security countermeasures with the limited budget. The optimal information security countermeasures were derived based on the actual information security investment status of SMEs. The optimal solution supports the decision on the appropriate investment level for each information security countermeasures.
