The novelty of this study resides in a 6"-wafer-level microfabrication protocol for a microdevice with a fluidic control system for the separation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from human whole blood cells. The microdevice utilizes a lateral magnetophoresis method based on immunomagnetic nanobeads with anti-epithelial cell adhesive molecule antibodies that selectively bind to epithelial cancer cells. The device consists of a top polydimethylsiloxane substrate for microfluidic control and a bottom substrate for lateral magnetophoretic force generation with embedded v-shaped soft magnetic microwires. The microdevice can isolate about 93% of the spiked cancer cells (MCF-7, a breast cancer cell line) at a flow rate of 40/100 mL/min with respect to a whole human blood/buffer solution. For all isolation, it takes only 10 min to process 400 mL of whole human blood. The fabrication method is sufficiently simple and easy, allowing the microdevice to be a mass-producible clinical tool for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and personalized medicine.
In this paper, a new architecture is proposed to achieve complexity efficiency in implementing variable pulse position modulation (VPPM). VPPM, specified in IEEE 802.15.7, can support wireless communication and dimming control simultaneously using visible light. The proposed architecture is based on the VPPM signal property in which the transition point of the modulated output is obtained by counting the sample index and comparing it to both the assigned dimming factor and the transmitting data. Therefore, the proposed architecture can be composed of simple logics, including a counter, a comparator, and an inverter, all of which are insensitive to the dimming resolution in contrast to a conventional codeword-table method. This paper describes the verification of the proposed algorithm through a register-transfer level implementation of the codeword and proposed architectures. In comparison with the codeword-table method, the proposed method gains a nine-fold complexity reduction at a 1% dimming-step resolution.
Recently, due to the spread of the Korean Wave, as worldwide interest in Korean culture and the appearance of Korean celebrities increases, overseas expansion of Korean beauty companies have been activated. Despite the global economic downturn, Beauty Industry is continuing to grow, Korea's growth rate is remarkable level. Despite this growth in order to maintain a steady growth since the beauty industry is small and polarization based on the Beauty-IT Convergence Technology creates new markets, that require development of Beauty-IT Convergence Industry. For the status and prospects of the Beauty Industry, some research has been carried out, not all the studies carried out so far for Beauty-IT Convergence Industry. Therefore, this study is significant that Beauty-IT Convergence Industry's first research. The global Beauty-IT Convergence Industry is at the beginning yet, tThe government selected research topics of Top-Down approach to Beauty-IT Convergence technology, granted extra points, supported by establishing long-term Technology Roadmap as other industries, such as by establishing a global market strategy for the systematic occupation and promising technology development planWe will get focused training.
As the safety fields are expanding to a variety of industrial fields, safety technology has been developed by convergence between industrial safety fields such as mechanics, ergonomics, electronics, chemistry, construction, and information science. As the technology convergence is facilitating recently advanced safety technology, it is important to explore the trends of safety technology for understanding which industrial technologies have been integrated thus far. For studying the trends of technology, the patent is considered one of the useful sources that has provided the ample information of new technology. The patent has been also used to identify the patterns of technology convergence through various quantitative methods. In this respect, this study aims to identify the convergence patterns and fields of safety technology using association rule mining(ARM)-based patent co-classification(co-class) analysis. The patent co-class data is especially useful for constructing convergence network between technological fields. Through linkages between technological fields, the core and hub classes of convergence network are explored to provide insight into the fields of safety technology. As the representative method for analyzing patent co-class network, the ARM is used to find the likelihood of co-occurrence of patent classes and the ARM network is presented to visualize the convergence network of safety technology. As a result, we find three major convergence fields of safety technology: working safety, medical safety, and vehicle safety.
Home appliance manufacturers have recently been trying to provide smart products capable of various Internet services. For example, one health care manufacturer provides a Wi-Fi-capable scale. Once users register their information with the manufacturer's server, their weight and body fat records are automatically uploaded to the server whenever they measure their weight. The users can then watch and check their weight log easily using a smart device, such as a smartphone or tablet. One of the biggest problems, however, is that the initial configuration of the appliances and the user registration process may be quite complicated to typical users who are unfamiliar with such IT devices. This paper proposes an autoconfiguration system structure and protocol for Internet-capable home appliances, which supports the initial configuration and remote maintenance service of the device with only little user effort. Manufacturers can develop their own information appliances and provide differentiated services using the proposed system and protocol.
Purpose: As most defense technologies are classified as confidential, the corresponding International Patent Classifications (IPCs) require special attention. Consequently, the list of defense-related IPCs has been managed by the government. This paper aims to evaluate the defense-related IPCs and propose a methodology to revalidate and improve the IPC classification scheme. Methods: The patents in military technology and their corresponding IPCs during 2009~2020 were utilized in this paper. Prior to the analysis, patents are divided into private and public sectors. Social network analysis was used to analyze the convergence structure and central defense technology, and association rule mining analysis was used to analyze the convergence pattern. Results: While the public sector was highly cohesive, the private sector was characterized by easy convergence between technologies. In addition, narrow convergence was observed in the public sector, and wide convergence was observed in the private sector. As a result of analyzing the core technologies of defense technology, defense-related IPC candidates were identified. Conclusion: This paper presents a comprehensive perspective on the structure of convergence of defense technology and the pattern of convergence. It is also significant because it proposed a method for revising defense-related IPCs. The results of this study are expected to be used as guidelines for preparing amendments to the government's defense-related IPC.

Due to the high complexity and diversity of the problems of the future society, it is getting harder to solve with the traditional single technology. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in convergence technology, which combines or connects different types of technologies to create new technologies and industries. In this study, we explored the convergence R&D area of ICT technology related to landslide prevention/response. It is true that the world has been exposed to various disasters due to recent climate change. As a result, there is a tendency to use Big Data and ICT for disaster preparedness and recovery. Especially, in the case of landslides, it is a natural disaster that requires research not only to study actual landslides but also to predict potential landslides. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed what kind of convergence R&D is being carried out in the field of ICT for preventing and responding to landslide. Therefore, in this study, Web of Science article data were analyzed by using the scientometric analysis and 51 landslide-related ICT convergence R&D areas were derived.
A powerful interaction mechanism is one of the key elements for the success of smart TVs, which demand far more complex interactions than traditional TVs. This paper proposes a novel interface based on the famous touch interaction model but utilizes long-range bare hand tracking to emulate touch actions. To satisfy the essential requirements of high accuracy and immediate response, the proposed hand tracking algorithm adopts a fast color-based tracker but with modifications to avoid the problems inherent to those algorithms. By using online modeling and motion information, the sensitivity to the environment can be greatly decreased. Furthermore, several ideas to solve the problems often encountered by users interacting with smart TVs are proposed, resulting in a very robust hand tracking algorithm that works superbly, even for users with sleeveless clothing. In addition, the proposed algorithm runs at a very high speed of 82.73 Hz. The proposed interface is confirmed to comfortably support most touch operations, such as clicks, swipes, and drags, at a distance of three meters, which makes the proposed interface a good candidate for interaction with smart TVs.
Automatic emotion recognition based on facial cues, such as facial action units (AUs), has received huge attention in the last decade due to its wide variety of applications. Current computer-based automated two-phase facial emotion recognition procedures first detect AUs from input images and then infer target emotions from the detected AUs. However, more robust AU detection and AU-to-emotion mapping methods are required to deal with the error accumulation problem inherent in the multiphase scheme. Motivated by our key observation that a single AU detector does not perform equally well for all AUs, we propose a novel two-phase facial emotion recognition framework, where the presence of AUs is detected by group decisions of multiple AU detectors and a target emotion is inferred from the combined AU detection decisions. Our emotion recognition framework consists of three major components - multiple AU detection, AU detection fusion, and AU-to-emotion mapping. The experimental results on two real-world face databases demonstrate an improved performance over the previous two-phase method using a single AU detector in terms of both AU detection accuracy and correct emotion recognition rate.
Earned value management(EVM) based progress management was designed to systematically manage large or huge projects with budget based criteria. For this reason, existed methods of EVM based progress management have a practical difficulty to apply to small and medium enterprises(SMEs) not possessing enough human resource, time, and cost. In other words, SMEs have performed simultaneously many small-sized projects emphasizing more project delivery than project budget. This study focuses on the area of project management applying to many small-sized projects simultaneously conducted by SMEs. Thus, the method proposed in this study is to manage only the progress of projects after removing cost factor in order to reduce man powers required for allocating the budget of projects to their all activities in detail in the stage of project planning. This study reveals that SMEs are able to manage progress of many projects easily and intuitively using the proposed method.
