Particle Size Characteristics with the Specification of Yeongdong Illite Powder Products (영동 일라이트 분말 제품의 규격에 따른 입도 특성)

  • This study aimed to investigate the differences in the commercial powder products of the Yeongdong illite based on sales specifications, specifically examining the mineralogical composition, particle size, and chemical composition according to mesh size. The goal was to understand the characteristics of illite powder products and utilize them as a mineralogical database for exploring various applications. Commercial illite powder samples obtained from two mines were subjected to various experiments, including X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, laser diffraction particle size analysis, and scanning electron microscopy analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis. The XRD analysis revealed that the illite powder products from the two mines mainly consisted of illite/muscovite, quartz, and feldspar, indicating similar constituent minerals matching with those of ores for each mine. Laser diffraction particle size analysis indicated the difference in particle size distribution depending on the product specifications, with particle size uniformity tending to increase with increasing mesh sizes. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed variations in particle shape and size based on specifications. The size of illite particles did not vary significantly with product specifications, with noticeable changes observed mainly in the particle sizes of quartz and feldspar. Furthermore, although there were some differences in chemical composition among the samples from different mines, no significant variations were observed according to specifications. Based on these results, when considering the application of commercial illite powder, it is essential to carefully select it with the consideration of its specifications to account for characteristic variations. The findings of this study present support the great potential of various application fields of commercial illite powder, contributing to industrial utilization and the development of new technologies.

Investigation on the Utilization Possibility of Vitrified Slag for Sound Absorbing Material (용융고화슬래그를 이용한 흡음재료 활용가능성 검토)

  • This study was performed to prove that vitrified slag can be utilized as sound absorbing materials by investigating on heavy metal elution and the properties of sound absorbing rate according to the thickness. The heavy metal elution experiment indicated that heavy metal was not eluted since it was fixed stable in the slag. Vitrified slag generally exhibited a maximum sound absorbing rate around at 600Hz-1kHz and 3kHz in the low and high frequency range, respectively. On the other hand, the absorbing rate increased beyond the range of 7kHz again. The sound absorbing rate varied a little according to the thickness of the material. However, Vitrified slag is likely to the effective as a sound absorbing wall material since it has a sound absorbing rate clover 80% in the low and high frequency region when used as a wall. The results obtained in this study showed that vitrified slag has the recyclable material properties and therefore, highly applicable to sound absorbing materials.

A Feedback Diffusion Algorithm for Compression of Sensor Data in Sensor Networks (센서 네트워크에서 데이터 압축을 위한 피드백 배포 기법)

  • Data compression technique is traditional and effective to reduce network traffic. Generally, sensor data exhibit strong correlation in both space and time. Many algorithms have been proposed to utilize these characteristics. However, each sensor just utilizes neighboring information, because its communication range is restrained. Information that includes the distribution and characteristics of whole sensor data provide other opportunities to enhance the compression technique. In this paper, we propose an orthogonal approach for compression algorithm based on a novel feedback diffusion algorithm in sensor networks. The base station or a super node generates the Huffman code for compression of sensor data and broadcasts it into sensor networks. Every sensor that receives the information compresses their sensor data and transmits them to the base station. We define this approach as feedback-diffusion. In order to show the superiority of our approach, we compare it with the existing aggregation algorithms in terms of the lifetime of the sensor network. As a result, our experimental results show that the whole network lifetime was prolonged by about 30%.

Investigating the Feature Collection for Semantic Segmentation via Single Skip Connection (깊은 신경망에서 단일 중간층 연결을 통한 물체 분할 능력의 심층적 분석)

  • Since the study of deep convolutional neural network became prevalent, one of the important discoveries is that a feature map from a convolutional network can be extracted before going into the fully connected layer and can be used as a saliency map for object detection. Furthermore, the model can use features from each different layer for accurate object detection: the features from different layers can have different properties. As the model goes deeper, it has many latent skip connections and feature maps to elaborate object detection. Although there are many intermediate layers that we can use for semantic segmentation through skip connection, still the characteristics of each skip connection and the best skip connection for this task are uncertain. Therefore, in this study, we exhaustively research skip connections of state-of-the-art deep convolutional networks and investigate the characteristics of the features from each intermediate layer. In addition, this study would suggest how to use a recent deep neural network model for semantic segmentation and it would therefore become a cornerstone for later studies with the state-of-the-art network models.

An Experimental Study on the Quality Characteristics of Soil-Cement for Deep Mixing Method Using Carbon Capture Minerals(CCM) (이산화탄소 포집광물을 활용한 심층혼합처리용 Soil-Cement의 품질 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, the optimum ratio of soil-cement was derived to utilize carbon capture minerals(CCM) as soil-cement for deep mixing method, quality characteristics of soil-cement mixed with carbon capture minerals were evaluated. The CCM is generated in the form of a slurry, and as a result of evaluating water content, it was found to be about 50%. Accordingly, the water content of CCM was removed in the unit water of Soil-cement mix. As a result of field mixing of soil-cement using CCM on field soil, it showed that the design allowable bearing capacity was satisfied by showing 3.0MPa or more as of 28 days of age. As a result of the hazard verification of carbon capture minerals, 0.055mg/L of Cu was detected, but satisfies the acceptance criteria, and no other harmful substances were eluted.

A Study on the Basic Properties of Foam Glass Aggregate for the Application of Insulated Foundation (단열바닥기초 적용을 위한 발포유리 골재의 기초 특성 평가)

  • The present study evaluated the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of the foam glass aggregate and insulation foundation with this, in order to promote the use of insulated foundations using domestically produced foamed glass aggregates. As a result of the evaluation, the compacted foam glass aggregate showed at the same level as overseas products in terms of unit volume mass, particle size and other characteristics, and a compressive strength of 40.6 N/cm2, which was superior to the existing organic insulation materials such as XPS. And the thermal conductivity of the foam glass aggregate was 0.84 W/mK, and the thermal transmittance of the specimen simulating the insulation foundation was 0.37 W/mK, so the thermal conductivity of the foam glass aggregate was estimated to be 0.80 W/mK. With these results, it was found that it is possible to use the insulation foundation with re-producted foam glass aggregate by crushing the waste from the process of producing foam glass products.

  • This study aims to improve understanding of freight movement, crucial for logistics facility investment and policy making. It addresses the limitations of traditional freight truck traffic data, aggregated only at city and county levels, by developing a new methodology. This method uses trip chain data for more detailed, facility-level analysis of freight truck movements. It employs DTG (Digital Tachograph) data to identify individual truck visit locations and creates H3 system-based polygons to represent these visits spatially. The study also involves an algorithm to dynamically determine the optimal spatial resolution of these polygons. Tested nationally, the approach resulted in polygons with 81.26% spatial fit and 14.8% error rate, offering insights into freight characteristics and enabling clustering based on traffic chain characteristics of freight trucks and visited facility types.

  • Recently, the rapid redeposition and erosion of rivers artificially created by climate change and the Four Rivers Restoration Project is questionable. According to the revised law in Korea, the river management agency will periodically carry out bed changes surveys. However, there are technical limitations in contrast to the trend of increasing spatial coverage, density and narrowing of intervals. National organizations are interest in developing innovative bed changessurvey techniquesfor efficiency. Core of bathymetry survey is to measure the depth of rivers under a variety of river conditions, but that is relatively more risky, time-consuming and expensive compared to conventional ground surveys. To overcome the limitations of traditional technology, echo sounder, which has been mainly used for ocean depth surveying, has been applied to rivers. However, due to various technical limitations, it is still difficult to periodically investigate a wide range of areas. Therefore, technique using the remote sensing has been spotlighted as an alternative, especially showing the possibility of depth measurement using spectral characteristics. In this study, we develop and examine a technique that can measure depth of water using reflectance from spectral characteristics. As a result of applying the technique proposed in thisstudy, it was confirmed that the measured depth and the correlation and error corresponding to 0.986 and 0.053 m were measured in the depth range within 0.95 m. In the future, this study could be applied to the measurement of spatial depth if it is applied to the hyperspectral sensor mounted on the drone.

Gravity modeling and application to the gravity referenced navigation (중력모델링과 중력참조항법에의 적용)

  • The gravity anomaly is a basic geophysical data applied in various fields such as geophysics, geodesy and national defense. In general, the gravity anomaly is used through a interpolation process based on the constructed database. The gravity variation, however, is appeared in various shapes depending on the topography and the density of the underground structures. Therefore, the interpolation could lead to a large differences if the gravity fields do not satisfy the assumptions on the signal behavior like linear or a certain degree polynomials. Furthermore, the interpolation does not reflect the physical characteristics of the gravity such as the harmonic condition. In this study, the gravity modeling using the plane Fourier series and radial basis functions are performed to overcome the problems in the usual interpolation. The results of the modeling is analyzed for the case of the gravity referenced navigation focused on the signal characteristics. Based on the study, it was found that the results from modeling are not much different to that from the interpolation in a smoothly varied area. In case of the highly varied area, however, a large differences are appeared among the three methods. Especially, the Fourier series shows the most smooth variations in the modeled gravity values while the highest variations appeared in the interpolation. Applying to the gravity referenced navigation, it was found that the modeling is more effective in calculation cost. It is considered that the results from this study provides a basis on effective modeling of the gravity fields in terms of the signal characteristics and resolution for various application fields.
