  • There have been many radiation measurement methods so far among which film dosimetry, TLD, and ion chamber are the most frequently used methods. But this study describes a new radiation measurement method which uses polymer gel and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). The objective of this study is to fabricate a polymer gel sensitive to radiation and to generate a dose to MRI contrast relationship, and to apply this results to the radiation measurement for the brachytherapy. To do this, 12 cm diameter cylindrical gel phantom was made, and the phantom was irradiated using the 30 mm diameter circular collimator which was used for radiosurgery. And this irradiated phantom was scanned with MRI. To find out the relationship between the radiation dose and the transversal relaxation time, an image processing software(IDL) was used. From this study it is found out that the radiation dose showed linear relationship to the transversal relaxation time of the gel up to 17 Gy($R^2$=0.993) and they had a different relationship above 17 Gy. The dose distributions were calculated using these results for the Ir-192 sources, one for the HDR afterloading system and the other for a 2 mCi seed source. And these calculated dose distributions were compared to the ones from the treatment planning computers. From this study the dose to the irradiated gel's transversal relaxation time relationship was examined, and this result was tried for the measurement of the brachytherapy.

  • In this paper, Tapered slot antenna of IR-UWB was Designed and fabricated using HFSS and we suggest the beam width of the broadband antenna using group-delay and fidelity. For this purpose, acquired data from the Network Analyzer was analyzed in the time domain by using the chirp-Z transform and Simulation was conducted and confirmed with the CST microwave studio. Analysis of the antenna radiation pattern is the antenna separation at intervals of 0.5 metres and then transmit antenna is fixed and the receiving antenna 360 degree intervals of 10 degree each, The results of the analysis are as follows, and analyzer of the fidelity of the antenna's performance. An analysis of more than 90 percent of the cases is less than ${\pm}40$ degrees in good fidelity, more than 90% less than ${\pm}40$ degrees and lowe fidelity. In conclusion, Analysis of Beam width of wideband antenna with more precise is possible through using these radiation pattern using fidelity.

  • Radiation therapy is an important treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, how to promote radiation sensitivity in HNSCC remains a challenge. This study aimed to investigate the radiosensitizing effects of fenofibrate on HNSCC and explore the underlying mechanisms. HNSCC cell lines CNE-2 and KB were subjected to ionizing radiation (IR), in the presence or absence of fenofibrate treatment. Cell growth and survival, apoptosis and cell cycle were evaluated. In addition, CNE-2 cells were xenografted into nude mice and subjected to IR and/or fenofibrate treatment. The expression of cyclinB and CDK1 was detected by Western blotting. Our results showed that fenofibrate efficiently radiosensitized HNSCC cells and xenografts in mice, and induced apoptosis and G2/M arrest via reducing the activity of the CDK1/cyclinB1 kinase complex. These data suggest that fenofibrate could be a promising radiosensitizer for HNSCC radiotherapy.

  • Poly (VDF-co-HFP)/PEGDMA nanofibrous membranes (NFMs) have been prepared by an electrospinning process. Since electrospun NFMs have a nanoporous structure, they have a potential application for a polymer electrolyte or a separator. Poly (VDF-co-HFP) is a polymer electrolyte binder. In order to improve their mechanical properties, poly (VDF-co-HFP)/PEGDMA NFMs were crosslinked by a gamma-ray irradiation. Then the crosslinked NFMs were characterized through an electrolyte uptake, IR structural analysis, and SEM morphological investigation.

  • In this study, a convenient method for the selective immobilization of single strand DNA (ssDNA) on a polymer surface was described. A positively charged polyelectrolyte, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA), was spin-coated on a tissue culture petridish and the micropatterns of the PDDA were formed by selective ion implantation through a pattern mask. The surface property of the implanted PDDA was investigated by using a surface profiler and FT-IR spectrometer. Cy3-labeled ssDNA was selectively immobilized on the PDDA patterns through ionic interaction and thus, well-defined ssDNA patterns were obtained.

  • Natural lacquer was cured at room temperature at a relative humidity of 60% at $27^{\circ}C$ to obtain a lacquer film. Photolysis of lacquer was investigated by irradiating 1~75 kGy of gamma ray to this lacquer film. No significant changes were observed in the range of 1~10 kGy radiation. As the radiation doses were increased, the white spots were increased in the scanning electron microscope photographs. The increase of the white dots of the lacquer surface shows that the lacquer is degradation by radiation. As a result of IR spectral analysis of the lacquer surface with increasing irradiation dose, there was no significant change in $3,445cm^{-1}$ hydroxide group, $2,900cm^{-1}$ hydrocarbon group, and $993cm^{-1}$ triene group. However, the $1,745cm^{-1}$ carbonyl group was found to increase, and the $1,715cm^{-1}$ unsaturated hydrocarbon group and the $1,463cm^{-1}$ methylene group showed a tendency to decrease.

  • Water drainage from the open hydroponics often causes significant environmental pollution due to agrochemicals and loss of water and nutrients. The objectives of this study were to show the potential application of an irrigation schedule based on threshold values of volumetric substrate water content for tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. 'Samsamgu') cultivation in a commercial hydroponic farm during spring to summer cultivation. This study was performed for minimizing effluent from coir substrate hydroponics using a frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) sensor-automated irrigation, as compared with an integrated solar-radiation (IR) and conventional timer-irrigation (TIMER) after transplanting. In results, no significant difference in daily irrigation volume was found among the treatments until 88 days after transplant (DAT). However, during the 88 to 107 DAT, the daily irrigation volume was in the order of IR (2125 mL) > TIMER (2063 mL) > FDR (1983 mL), and during the 108 to 120 DAT, it was in the order of IR (2000 mL) > TIMER (1664 mL) > FDR (1500 mL). The lowest drainage volume was observed in the FDR treatment with the order of IR (12~19%) > TIMER (4~12%) > FDR (0~7%) during the entire growing period. A lower irrigation volume in the FDR treatment after 88 DAT may be due to the sensor's detecting capacity for less water absorption by plant after completing fruit maturity with apical pruning and removal of lower leaves, while a higher irrigation volume in the IR treatment may be due to gradual increase in integrated solar-radiation amount as closer to summer season. There was no significant difference in plant growth and fruit yield among the treatments; however, a 11% and 18% of higher soluble sugar content was observed in the FDR than that of TIMER and IR treatment. respectively.

  • Gamma irradiation (${\gamma}IR$) is widely used for radiotherapy as a treatment of cancer cells although it has a risk to damage normal cells. Inflammation is regarded as one of side effects of ${\gamma}IR$ while the effect of low dose of ${\gamma}IR$ on inflammation has not been researched well. Here, we investigated the inflammatory responses of low dose of ${\gamma}IR$ on murine spleen cells. It was evaluated if ${\gamma}IR$ affected the mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation, the regulation of various inflammatory cytokines (IFN-${\gamma}$, IL-2, IL-17, IL-4, IL-10), and the involvement of Ikaros and MAPK/NF-${\kappa}B$ medicated mechanism. Exposure of $^{137}Cs-{\gamma}IR$ below 2 Gy decreased the lymphocytes proliferative response to mitogens (LPS, ConA) except at the lowest dose, 0.05 Gy. IL-17, IL-2 and IL-4 mRNA increased at 0.5 and 2 Gy, but not altered at 0.05 Gy. IL-10, anti-inflammatory cytokine, increased only at 0.05 Gy. In regard to intracellular signaling, p-JNK, p-p38 and p-$I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ were not changed, whereas the activation of ERK and Ikaros increased at the lowest dose. These results suggest that exposure of ${\gamma}IR$ less than 0.5 Gy (or below 0.05 Gy) has beneficial effects as a radiation hormesis on immune function.

  • The output of an infrared (IR) sensor mounted on an EO/IR payload is known to change during a mission period in an orbital environment. As it is required to calibrate the output of the IR sensor periodically to obtain high-quality images, an on-board black body system is mounted on the payload. All systems operating in the space environment require performance tests on ground to verify the target performance in the orbital environment. Therefore, it is also required to test the black body system to verify the performance of the surface temperature uniformity and the estimated representative temperature error within the target temperature range in the operating environment. In this study, calibration of the estimated representative temperature error and verification of the thermal performance of the black body system were conducted by performed a performance test in the thermal vacuum chamber applying deep space radiation cooling effect of an orbital environment.
