  • With the emergence of increasingly complex networks and diverse user terminals, demand for the next generation IPTV service is rapidly growing. It enables any content to seamlessly be reused on the diverse terminals as well as be broadcasted in real-time through the complex networks. In this paper, a novel security framework is proposed for the real-time and reusable IPTV services. The proposed framework is advantageous over the conventional content protection techniques in easily producing the scalable content with lightweight, perceptual, transcodable, and adjustable security features. It does not only ensure end-to-end security over the entire service range based on a single security mechanism, but also can control a level of security while dynamically transcoding the original content. This approach basically performs selective encryption during and after the compression using scalable video coding. The suitability of the proposed approach is demonstrated through experiments with a practical service scenario. Therefore, it is expected that security technology alone could practically contribute to creating new business opportunities for IPTV services.

  • The IPTV Service provides various interactive services beyond the level of being able to substitute cable TV. The IPTV system is to be decentralized gradually in which one server conducts all tasks. Primarily, deliberation of media needs to be changed into a system in which relayer and peer from the central server is utilized. Secondarily, the way of controling IPTV network need to be decentralized. Unlike the current client-server system, P2P(Peer To Peer), the main technology of decentralized IPTV is able to provide a service by cooperation of each node. Dealing with live streaming IPTV system which is based on the P2P protocol, this paper design the pure P2P IPTV structure and does verify the performance of P2P IPTV structure by realizing real system.

  • Due to the advancement of IPTV technologies, open IPTV services are a step closer to becoming reality. In such service environment, users are able to enjoy IPTV services using a variety of devices available at their home domain. However, it is impossible to get such flexible services at their convenience unless each of devices is individually connected to Set-Top-Box (STB) because of Conditional Access System (CAS) or service providers otherwise allow STB to freely distribute decoded contents to every user devices attached to STB. In this paper, we propose a key management scheme for securely distributing contents from STB to multiple user devices at home domain. The proposed scheme also makes the service providers be able to control the access rights to each of user devices without installing individual STBs. It is achieved by computationally dividing a private key of RSA signature scheme into three parts and thus makes possible to distribute the contents scrambled through a underlying CAS mechanism without re-encrypting them that the existing scheme should employ. It improves significantly computation and communication complexities, maintaining it as secure as the existing schemes. Additionally, it prevents misbehaving users from illegally distributing the contents from STB to their devices available at home domain.

  • In this paper, we present a model-based video bit rate estimation scheme for reducing the bit rate while maintaining a given target quality in many video streaming services limited by network bandwidth, such as IPTV services. Each item of video content can be stored on a video streaming server and delivered with the estimated bit rate using the proposed scheme, which consists of the following two steps: 1) In the first step, the complexity of each intra-frame in a given item of video content is computed as a frame feature to extract a group of candidate frames with a lot of bits. 2) In the second step, the bit rate of the video content is determined by applying statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to that group. The experimental results show that our scheme can reduce the bit rate by up to 78% with negligible degradation of subjective quality, especially with the low-complexity videos commonly used in IPTV services.

  • IPTV hasn't fulfilled the expectations that it will substitute existing digital broadcasting service and serve new type of services such as interactive and multi-channels. Today's IPTV service just seems to change existing service platform to new one. In this situation, Open IPTV service has been on the rise, which make it possible for consumers to choice contents regardless of contents providers. However, the integration of variety service platforms such as rights protection solution is essential to provide Open IPTV service. In this paper, authoring and consuming system for package contents based on MPEG-21 Multimedia Framework which is developed for distributing media resources.

  • A conditional access system is an essential element in IPTV services enabling service providers to allow authorized access to their services only to paid subscribers. Currently, there are two types of IPTV service models, namely PPC (pay-per-channel) and PPV (pay-per-view). However, a more desirable model would be the flexible PPC model, in which subscribers are free to choose any combination of preferred channels and add/remove channels independently. In this paper, we first point out that a previously proposed key management scheme for F-PPC is not secure. We then propose a new conditional access system using 4-level key hierarchy to realize secure F-PPC services. Compared to existing schemes, the proposed system is very efficient, just requiring O(1) communication for key update.

  • The convergence of the telecommunication industry through the combination of existing network technology and multimedia technology has brought along interactive data services in addition to the traditional broadcast services by providing direct connections between the users and the broadcasters. The interactive data service technology has developed a network which is able to fully support QoS and also a fast enough channel changing technology that is satisfactory to the user, are prerequisites for IPTV success, to provide satisfactory levels of service to exist users. However the current server-client system can't support all increasing needs of users. To overcome these limitations, P2P based IPTV service is currently under researched. Therefore, this thesis proposes a logical view based copy-ahead technique for P2P IPTV to improve the performance of IPTV system.

  • Internet Protocol Television(IPTV) is the use of an IP broadband network to deliver television (cable TV type) services to the end user. Traditional telecommunications service providers as well as alternate service providers and Internet service providers can utilize their IP networks (and broadband consumer access) to deliver broadcast TV, Video on Demand (VOD) and other Internet services to the consumer. As digital technologies progress, illegal copy and redistribution of IPTV content become easier and simpler. Therefore it is required to protect IPTV content or service. In this paper, we analyze the security threats and requirements. We also discuss related issues and solutions for IPTV.

  • The most important issue for successful deployment of IPTV service is the service quality. In this paper, we first choose critical quality metrics belonging to each layer of IPTV service transmission architecture and then analyze the relation between the quality parameters. For this purpose, we implement a test network that emulates the most practical environment in which IPTV service is provided and repeat measurements on the test network for the chosen metrics. Based on the analysis result, it is shown that packet losses have greater effect on the video quality of IPTV service comparing to delay and jitter.

  • The mobility is one of the most important factor for mobile IPTV. However, mobility is highly vulnerable to eavesdropping and unauthorized access. Generally mobility of mobile services is based on handover techniques. But we showed that mobile IPTV must use other techniques to confirm mobility. In this paper, we analyzed security of wibro mobile IPTV from the viewpoint of mobility. We considered DCAS host must include new addresses of mobile devices. We analyzed total number of authentication for the proposed method. So we showed that proposed method was more efficient than wibro-mobile IPTV. We compared the security of our proposal to the security requirements of TTA.
