  • NAT (Network Address Translation) is an IP address modification protocol that translates private IP address into authentic Internet address. The main features of NAT are to improve network security and to save IP address. Generally speaking, in order to perform its functionality, NAT uses the address information in the packet header. Certain application protocols, however, use the information in the packet data as well as the information in the packet header to perform end-to-end communication. Therefore, to support these types of application protocols, NAT should be able to perform appropriate translation of protocol information in the packet data. In this thesis, we design and implement a method which translates virtual IP information in the packet date into real IP information by using port proxy server.

  • IP lookup and forwarding process becomes the bottleneck of packet transmission as IP traffic increases. Previous hardware-based IP address lookup schemes using an index-based table are not memory-efficient due to sparse distribution of the routing prefixes. In this paper, we propose memory-efficient hardware based IP lookup scheme called set-associative IP address lookup scheme, which provides the same IP lookup speed with much smaller memory requirement. In the proposed scheme, an NHA entry stores the prefix and next hop together. The IP lookup procedure compares a destination IP address with eight entries in a corresponding set simultaneously and finds the longest matched prefix. The memory requirement of the proposed scheme is about $42\%$ of that of Lin's scheme. Thus, the set-associative IP address lookup scheme is a memory-efficient hardware based IP address lookup scheme.

  • The Internet has been growing at unprecedented rates. The problem of an address shortage could act as a barrier on this growth. In principle, a new Internet standard, IPv6 solves the problem of the address shortage because it has a very large address space. But IPv6 is not yet compatible with the IPv4 and during the IPv4-to-IPv6 transition period IPv4 address will continue to be in demand. Thus for quite some time, the problem of IP address shortage will persist. To solve the problem, we propose the mechanism of secure IP address trading. This mechanism is based on the Resource PKI (RPKI). The RPKI is the working item of IETF. This proposed mechanism maximizes the trust of IP address trading using RPKI.

  • Recently most of the home and small-size company use ADSL(Asymmetric Digital subscriber Line) or Cable Modem for using Internet Services. The number of Internet IP Address in current Internet IP Address System(IPv4) that is consisted of 4byte is almost empty, so generally the IP Address assigned dynamically is used. This way is just OK in general uses, but not OK in Internet Servers operation. This paper designed the gateway(Gate-D) system which is enable any system that get IP Address assigned dynamically to serve Internet Server Services(Telnet, FTP, HTTP, Mail, etc …), and made sure the worth by using Telnet Server.

  • We introduce two distributed IP address auto-configuration mechanisms for mobile ad hoc networks. RADA (Random ADdress Allocation) is based on random IP address selection, while LiA (Linear Address Allocation) assigns new addresses sequentially, using the current maximum IP address. An improved version of LiA, hewn as LiACR (Linear Address Allocation with Collision Resolution) further reduces the control overhead. Simulation results show that, when many nodes join a network during a short period, RADA assigns addresses more quickly than LiA and LiACR. However, RADA uses the address space less efficiently, due to its random allocation of IP addresses. Hence, RADA is particularly useful in battlefield scenarios or rescue operations where fast setup is needed, while LiA and LiACR are more suitable for ad hoc networks that are moderate, confined and subject to some form of governance control, such as that orchestrated by a wireless service provider.

  • The IP address lookup problem is to find the longest matching IP prefix for a given IP address from the routing table and has been a central bottleneck in speeding up the Internet. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for this problem based on the segment tree data structure. Given n IP prefixes, our algorithm can do IP address in Ο(log n) time. It also handles the insertion and deletion of IP prefixes efficiently without rebuilding the total data structure.

  • A video-conference system is being utilized in web based application services in various fields due to the widespread use of Internet and the progress of computer technologies. This system should use the public IP address for sharing file and white board and it is difficult to manage the internal network users of the firewall and non-public IP address users. In this paper, we propose an Application Level Gateway which transforms non-public IP address into public IP address. This mechanism is for the internal network users of the firewall or non-public IP address users over the Internet. We also propose a Control Daemon which manages video and audio media dynamically according to network bandwidth. This mechanism can start and terminate a video conference and manage the process of the video conference.

  • Because of the limitations of traditional IPv4 address, the adoption of IPv6 has been accelerated. In IPv6 system, each host can obtain the IP address automatically using auto-configuration functionality, which is one of the features of IPv6. However, the auto-configuration functionality can allow a malicious user to get its IPv6 address and access the network without permission, the IP address management functionality becomes more important than IPv4. In this paper, we propose an IPv6 address management system based on IP agents, which protects the unauthorised users from accessing the network and redirects the web access of those users to a specific web page to induce them to access the network after installing the IP agents.

  • An IP address shortage problem is happening with a rapid propagation of the Internet and demands about a new IP address. Address translation technology as NAT is becoming use widely in order to solve these problems. NAT is an very useful If address translation technique that allows two connected networks to use different and incompatible IP address schemes. Rut it is difficult to use NAT particularly for applications that embeded IP addresses in data payloads or encrypted IP packet to guarantee End-to-End Security such as IPSec. In addition to rewiting the source/destination IP address in the packet, NAT must modify IP checksum every time, which could lead to considerablely performance decrease of the overall system in the process of address translation. RSIP is an alternative to solve these disadvantages and address shortage problems of NAT. Both NAT and RSIP divide networks into inside and outside addressing realms. NAT translates addresses between internal network and external network, but RSIP uses a borrowed external address for outside communications. RSIP server assigns a routable, public address to an RSIP client temporaily to communicate with public network outside the private network. In this paper, I will analyze NAT and RSIP gateway system, and then I will propose the Linux-based RSIP gateway for more efficient IP Address Translation in Intranet environments based on RSIP standard of IETF.

  • IP address lookup is a major bottleneck of IP packet processing in high speed router. Existing IP lookup methods are focused only on lookup throughput without considering lookup table update. So their slow update can lead to lookup blocking or wrong routing decision based on obsolete routes. Especially existing IP lookup methods based on CAM(content addressable memory) have slow update of O(n) cycles in spite of their high throughput and low area complexity In this paper we proposes a new IP address lookup method based on pipelined CAM architecture(PICAM) with fast update of O(1) cycle of lookup table and high throughput and low area complexity.
