  • The general solution of the anti-plane shear problem for the curved interfacial crack between viscoelastic foam and composites was investigated with the complex variable displacement function and Kelvin-Maxwell model. The Laplace transform was applied to treat the viscoelastic characteristics of foam in the analysis. The stress intensity factor near the interfacial crack tip was predicted by considering both anisotropic and viscoelastic properties of two different materials. The results showed that the stress intensity factor increased with increasing the curvature of the curved interfacial crack and it also increased and eventually converged to a specific value with increasing time.

  • In order to determine what influences the interfacial charge in EPDM/XLPE laminates, We used PEA (pulsed electroacoustic) method. Interfacial properties such as space charge accumulation and breakdown strength in crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE)/ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) laminates were investigated. Interfacial charge develops when the EPDM is laminated with XLPE. It showed the positive polarity same as the simulation in case on intercase of EPDM/XLPE. In case of coupling agent added silicone oil, as increasing the content of coupling agent, the interfacial charge decreased. Details of the results are given and their origins discussed.

  • The present study dealt with the relationships among the interfacial shear strength, the thickness of interfacial reaction layer and the impact value of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites. In addition, the tensile test was conducted to evaluate the fracture strain of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites. To change the thickness of the reaction layer, $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites alternating sintered MoSi2 layers and Nb foils were fabricated as the parameter of hot press temperature. It has been found that the growth of the reaction layer increases the interfacial shear strength and decreases the impact value by localizing a plastic deformation of Nb foil. There also exist appropriate shear strength and the thickness of the reaction layer, which are capable of maximizing the fracture energy of $Nb/MoSi_2$.

  • Electrical properties of each interfacial layers on semiconducting ceramics have been analized and evaluated by complex impedance resonance method as functions of ambient temperatures and applied voltages. From the analytical results, it can be observed that the interfacial layers in a semiconducting ceramics vary individually with the ambient temperature and then this influence the total properties. Also, it has been confirmed that the applied voltage on semiconducting ceramics affect mainly the electrode interface, and thus the resistance and capacitance decrease due to the variation of potential barrier layers.

  • Interfacial and mechanical properties of neat and two sizing agents coated glass fiber (GF)/polydicyclopentadiene (p-DCPD) composites were evaluated at room and low temperatures, $25^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$. Sizing agents of GFs were extracted using acetone and compared via FT-IR. Surface energy and work of adhesion between GFs and p-DCPD were calculated by dynamic contact angle measurement. Mechanical properties of different GFs were determined using single fiber tensile test and interfacial properties of single GF reinforced DCPD strip were determined using cyclic loading tensile test. Mechanical properties of GFs/p-DCPD composites at room and low temperatures were determined using tensile, compressive, and Izod impact tests. Interfacial and mechanical properties were different with sizing agents of GFs and the optimized condition of sizing agent was found.

  • Animal glue, a water-soluble adhesive, has been used historically for high-performance traditional furniture despite the disadvantage of weakness against moisture. Many scientists studied the ways to improve water resistance of animal glue. Improvements on the interfacial, thermal, and water resistance properties of wood sandwich composites (WSC) was studied with carbon nanotube (CNT) wt% in animal glue. Real-time temperature of WSC was measured after WSC was heated with increasing CNT wt%. Lap shear test was performed to determine the interfacial properties of wood and animal glue with CNTs. Water resistance properties of animal glue were determined by lap shear test using specimens dipped in water and the results were compared with the dry case. Hydrophobicity of animal glue by static contact angle was correlated with the variation of lap shear test. Interfacial, thermal, and water resistance properties for animal glue were improved with properly added CNTs.

  • Interfacial properties and microfailure degradation mechanisms of the bioabsorbable composites for implant materials were investigated using micromechanical technique and measurement of surface wettability. As hydrolysis time increased, the tensile strength, the modulus and the elongation of poly(ester-amide) (PEA) and bioactive glass fibers decreased, whereas those of chitosan fiber almost did not change. Interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between bioactive glass fiber and poly-L-lactide (PLLA) was much higher than PEA or chitosan fiber/PLLA systems using dual matrix composite (DMC) specimen. The decreasing rate of IFSS was the fastest in bioactive glass fiber/PLLA composites whereas that of chitosan fiber/PLLA composites was the slowest. Work of adhesion, $W_a$ between bioactive glass fiber and PLLA was the highest, and the wettability results were consistent with the IFSS. Interfacial properties and microfailure degradation mechanisms can be important factors to control bioabsorbable composite performance.

  • In this work, glass fiber/nylon 6 and woven glass fiber/nylon 6 composites have been fabricated using glass fiber reinforcements sized with 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane(CTMS) having a chloropropyl organo-functional group in the molecular chain end. The interfacial shear strength of glass fiber/nylon 6 composite was measured using a single fiber microbonding test and the interlaminar shear strength and the storage modulus of woven glass fabric/nylon 6 composites were measured using a short-warn shear test and a dynamic mechanical analysis, respectively, informing the effect of the concentration of CTMS on the properties. With increasing CTMS concentration, the interfacial properties of the composites were improved. The results on the interfacial shear strength, interlaminar shear strength, interlaminar failure pattern, and storage modulus with varying the CTMS concentration agree with each other.
