  • Three-dimensional data has been used for different applications such as robotics, building reconstruction, and so on. 3D data can be generated from an optical camera or a laser scanner. Especially, a wearable multi-sensor system including the above-mentioned sensors is an optimized structure that can overcome the drawbacks of each sensor. After finding the geometric relationships between sensors, georeferencing of the datasets acquired from the moving system, should be carried out. Especially, in an indoor environment, error propagation always causes problem in the georeferencing process. To improve the accuracy of this process, other sources of data were used to combine with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data, and various registration methods were also tested to find the most suitable way. More specifically, this paper proposed a new process of NDT (Normal Distribution Transform) to register the LiDAR point cloud, with additional information from other sensors. For real experiment, a wearable mapping system was used to acquire datasets in an indoor environment. The results showed that applying the new process of NDT and combining LiDAR data with IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) information achieved the best result with the RMSE 0.063 m.

  • This paper recognizes the motion intention of the wearer using a muscle stiffness sensor and proposes a control system for a wearable robot based on this. The proposed system recognizes the onset time of the motion using sensor data, determines the assistance mode, and provides assistive torque to the hip flexion/extension motion of the wearer through the generated reference trajectory according to the determined mode. The onset time of motion was detected using the CUSUM algorithm from the muscle stiffness sensor, and by comparing the detection results of the onset time with the EMG sensor and IMU, it verified its applicability as an input device for recognizing the intention of the wearer before motion. In addition, the stability of the proposed method was confirmed by comparing the results detected according to the walking speed of two subjects (1 male and 1 female). Based on these results, the assistance mode (gait assistance mode and muscle strengthening mode) was determined based on the detection results of onset time, and a reference trajectory was generated through cubic spline interpolation according to the determined assistance mode. And, the practicality of the proposed system was also confirmed by applying it to an actual wearable robot.

  • Although space-borne satellites are useful in obtaining information all around the world, they cannot observe at a suitable time and place. In order to overcome these limitations, an airborne remote sensing system was developed in this study. It is composed of a SAR sensor and a thermal infrared sensor. Additionally GPS, IMU, and thermometer/hygrometer were attached to the plane for radiometric and geometric calibration. The brightness of SAR image varies depending on surface roughness, and capillary waves on the sea surface, which are easily generated by sea winds, induce the surface roughness. Thus, sea surface wind can be estimated using the relationship between quantified SAR backscattering coefficient and the sea surface wind. On the other hand, thermal infrared sensor is sensitive to measure object's temperature. Sea surface temperature is obtained from the thermal infrared sensor after correcting the atmospheric effects which are located between sea surface and the sensor. Using these two remote sensing sensors mounted on airplane, four test flights were carried out along the west coast of Korea. The obtained SAR and thermal infrared images have shown that these images were useful enough to monitor coastal environment and estimate marine meteorology data.

  • In this paper, we propose a new collision detection algorithm for human-robot collaboration. We use an IMU sensor located at the tip of the manipulator and the kinematic behavior of the manipulator to detect the unexpected collision between the robotic manipulator and environment. Unlike other method, the developed algorithm uses only the kinematic relationship between the manipulator joint and the end effector. Therefore, the collision estimation signal is not affected by the error of the dynamics model. The proposed collision detection algorithm detects the collision by comparing the estimated acceleration of the end effector derived from the position, velocity and acceleration trajectories of the robot joints with the actual acceleration measured by the sensor. In simulation, we compare the performance of our method with the conventional Residual Observer (ROB). Our method is less sensitive to the load variation because of the independency on the dynamic modeling of the manipulator.

  • A single-axis Cubli frame realized simply with an IMU sensor and DC motor is presented herein. To maintain the balance on the Cubli frame, an LQR controller based on a Lagrangian derivation of the dynamics was designed, which utilized the state variables of the frame angle and its angular acceleration, as well as the wheel angle and its angular acceleration. The designed LQR controller showed a settling time balancing capability of approximately two seconds and 40% of the maximum overshoot in Matlab/Simulink simulations. Our experimental results of the fabricated Cubli frame matched with the simulation results. It maintained balancing at the reference position even though an initial offset as well as external disturbance during the balancing was applied.

  • Due to the low localization accuracy and the requirement of special infrastructure, current LBS(Localization Based Service) is limited to show P.O.I.(Point of Interest) nearby. Improvement of IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) based deadreckoning is presented in this paper. Additional sensors such as the magnetic compass and magnetic flux sensors are used as well as the accelerometer and the gyro for getting more information of movement. Based on the pedestrian movement, appropriate sensor information is selected and the complementary filter is used in order to enhance the accuracy of the localization.

  • We consider a double faults detection and isolation problem using modified extended parity space approach for inertial measurement unit which use redundant inertial sensors. A redundant IMU which has a hardware redundant is composed of the cone shape because it is good for fault detection and isolation. We analyze the type of double faults and the reason why fault isolation performance is low. We propose modified extended parity space approach method using EPSA and the difference of sensor data.

  • The autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is being widely researched in order to achieve superior performance when working in hazardous environments. This research focuses on using image processing techniques to estimate the AUV's egomotion and the changes in orientation, based on image frames from different time frames captured from a single high-definition web camera attached to the bottom of the AUV. A visual odometry application is integrated with other sensors. An internal measurement unit (IMU) sensor is used to determine a correct set of answers corresponding to a homography motion equation. A pressure sensor is used to resolve image scale ambiguity. Uncertainty estimation is computed to correct drift that occurs in the system by using a Jacobian method, singular value decomposition, and backward and forward error propagation.

  • The vulnerability of aircraft, especially rotary wing aircraft, has been an ongoing issue since their advent in combat operations during the 1940s. In this paper, representative sensors for survivability of those aircraft in modern battlefield are surveyed and top level requirements and parameters are defined. Also problems of multi-sensor alignment on modern agile and flexible platform are discussed and several techniques such as static alignment and transfer alignment are introduced.
