Dentoalveolar Characteristics according to facial types of Class III Malocclusion (골격성 III급 부정교합의 골격유형에 따른 치아치조특성)

  • This study was performed to compare the pattern of dentoalveolar characteristics in different vertical and anteroposterior skeletal types in skeletal Class III malocclusion. The samples selected for this study were consisted of 60 subjects(29 males and 31 females, mean age; 19.7 years) in Class III group, 43 subjects(14males and 29 females, mean age : 20.5 years) in normal group. The findings of this study were as follows : 1. The IMPA of the Class III group was smaller than that of the Class I group(p<0.01). 2. In the Class III groups, SNB and NtoPog had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). The SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1, FHU1 and PalU1(p<0.01) in the male samples, and in the female samples, the SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1(p<0.01). 3. In the Class III male samples, SNMP, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). SNMP, FMA, PalMP had not significant correlation with SNU1, FHU1, PalU1. In the Class III female samples, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). 4. In the high angle group of Class III samples, SNU1, IMPA is smaller than that of low angle group of Class III samples(p<0.05).

Evaluation of Treatment with a Combination of Prednisolone and Mycophenolate Mofetil for Dogs with Immune-Mediated Polyarthritis

  • Immune-mediated polyarthritis (IMPA) is an inflammatory, noninfectious disease that affects two or more joints in dogs. Immunosuppressive doses of prednisolone are considered the initial treatment choice for dogs with IMPA. However, few reports have described the combination of mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone for treating dogs with IMPA. In this report, we described the cases of three dogs treated with a combination of mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone. The clinical signs were alleviated in all cases, and C-reactive protein levels were reduced after treatment. Our results show that combination therapy of mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone is effective in managing IMPA. However, careful monitoring of the potential adverse effects, including sporadic infections and metabolic diseases, is necessary. In addition, screening tests and appropriate treatments are necessary for proteinuria, a common complication in dogs with IMPA.

A longitudinal study on the interrelationship between the growth change of the gonial ang1e and IMPA. (성장기 아동에 있어 gonial angle의 변화와 IMPA 변화에 관한 누년적 연구)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the growth change of genial angle and interrelationship between the growth change of gonial angle and IMPA in the longitudinal data from 7 years to 15 years. By analyzing the serial lateral cephalograms or 15 males and 19 females of 7 years old to 15 yens old who had no abnomality in growth and development and no history of orthodontic treatment, the following conclusion were obtained. 1. Genial angle gradually decreased with aging in 25 children and in 9 children increased or maintained. 2. There was a tendency that children who decreased genial angle with aging showed gradual increase of IMPA and children who increased or maintained gonial angle with aging showed decrease of IMPA. 3. There was a tendency that regardless of the change of gonial angle, interincisal angle decreased with aging.

  • In the companion paper, a simple but effective analysis procedure termed an Improved Modal Pushover Analysis (IMPA) is proposed to estimate the seismic capacities of multi-span continuous bridge structures on the basis of the modal pushover analysis, which considers all the dynamic modes of a structure. In contrast to previous studies, the IMPA maintains the simplicity of the capacity-demand curve method and gives a better estimation of the maximum dynamic response in a bridge structure. Nevertheless, to verify its applicability, additional parametric studies for multi-span continuous bridges with large differences in the length of adjacent piers are required. This paper, accordingly, concentrates on a parametric study to review the efficiency and limitation in the application of IMPA to bridge structures through a correlation study between various analytical models including the equivalent single-degree-of-freedom method (ESDOF) and modal pushover analysis (MPA) that are usually used in the seismic design of bridge structures. Based on the obtained numerical results, this paper offers practical guidance and/or limitations when using IMPA to predict the seismic response of a bridge effectively.

  • Existing reinforced concrete frame buildings designed for vertical loads could only suffer severe damage during earthquakes. In recent years, many research activities were undertaken to develop a reliable and practical analysis procedure to identify the safety level of existing structures. The Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is considered to be one of the most accurate methods to estimate the seismic demand and capacity of structures. However, the executions of many nonlinear response history analyses (NL_RHA) are required to describe the entire range of structural response. The research discussed in this paper deals with the proposal of an efficient Incremental Modal Pushover Analysis (IMPA) to obtain capacity curves by replacing the nonlinear response history analysis of the IDA procedure with Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA). Firstly, In this work, the MPA is examined and extended to three-dimensional asymmetric structures and then it is incorporated into the proposed procedure (IMPA) to estimate the structure's seismic response and capacity for given seismic actions. This new procedure, which accounts for higher mode effects, does not require the execution of complex NL-RHA, but only a series of nonlinear static analysis. Finally, the extended MPA and IMPA were applied to an existing irregular framed building.

Clinical Features in 9 Dogs with Immune-Mediated Polyarthritis

  • Nine dogs with history of lameness and anorexia were presented. On physical examination, all dogs had gait abnormality and six dogs had high body temperature. Their clinical signs were mostly episodic, and only non-specific symptoms were occasionally observed. Arthrocentesis was performed in all dogs, and immune-mediated polyarthritis (IMPA) was diagnosed. Definitive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) were diagnosed in one dogs, one each. Prednisolone (PDS) was chosen as the first-line therapy for all dogs, except for the one with RA. Most cases responded to PDS but some cases including those of SLE and RA were refractory to PDS. IMPA can be challenging to diagnose due to its vague symptom and is commonly implicated in 'fever of unknown origin'. Therefore, clinicians should consider IMPA as a differential diagnosis when the patient has fever with systemic, non-specific signs, such as anorexia and depression, but does not respond to antibiotics.

A STUDY OF THE STANDARDS ACCORDING TO THE STEINER AND TWEED ANALYSIS IN KOREAN NORMAL OCCLUSION (정상교합자에 있어서 Steiner씨 및 Tweed씨 분석법에 의한 교정학적 표준치에 관한 연구)

  • For the better orthodontic diagnosis, case analysis, and treatment plan, the author studied the cephalometric analysis of 365 Korean with normal occlusion occording to the Steiner and Tweed analysis. The subjects consisted of 162 males and 203 females from 7 to 19 years with normal occlusion and were divided into three groups according to the Hellman's dental age. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The Ideal Acceptable Compromises were determined after measurement of male and female average by the Steiner analysis in Hellman's dental age III B, IV A, IV C group. 2. The Holdaway ration were 6.5:1.0 in Group I, 6.5:1.5 in Group II, 6.5:1.5 in Group III. 3. The Tweed's triangle were $FMA\;27^{\circ}\;FMIA\;58^{\circ}\;IMPA\;95^{\circ}$ in Group I and II, $FMA\;27^{\circ}\;FMIA\;62^{\circ}\;IMPA\;95^{\circ}$ in Group III.

A longitudinal study on the growth pattern of craniofacial skeleton in skeletal class III (골격성 제 III급 부정교합자의 두 개안모의 성장양상에 관한 누년적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to find the characteristics of lateral crphalogram of skeletal class III malocclusion patients to whom orthognathic surgery was essential. For this study 37 patients with skeletal class III and going to treat or be treated orthognathic surgery(age 7-17) were selected to experimental group and 56 people with normal occlusion (age 8-13) were selected to normal group and the two groups were evaluated and statistically analyzed and the results were as follows 1. In comparison of experimental group and normal group in prepubertal group, there were significant differences in ANS-U1/Me-L1, Mx. Length/Mn. Length, S-N/Go-Me, Wits, ANB, SN-Pog, IMPA, Facial Convexity, APDI (p<0.05) 2. In comparison of experimental group and normal group in pubertal group, there were significant differences in ANS-U1/Me-L1, S-Go/N-Me, Mx.Length/Mn.Length, S-N/Go-Me, Wits, Saddle Angle, SNB, ANB, SN-Pog, IMPA, Interincisal Angle, Facial Convexity, APDI (p<0.05) 3. Among items showing characteristics of skeletal class III malocclusion, there were no significant differences between prepubertal group and pubertal group in other items except Mx. Length/Mn. Length,APDI (p<0.05) 4. The significant correlationship was the highest between Saddle Angle and SNB, SN-Pog and SNB, ANB and Facial Convexity in experimental group

A study on the morphological changes of lower incisor and symphysis during surgical-orthodontic treatment in skeletal class III malocclusion (악교정 수술을 받은 골격성 III급 부정교합자의 치료전후 하악전치부 치조골 형태변화에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the morphological changes of olveolar bone and mandibular symphysis of lower incisor by presurgical orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery in skeletal class III malocclusion. The sample consisted of 30 adult class III malocclusion patients who have received bilateral sagittal split mandibular osteotomy. Lateral cephalograms were taken before treatment, after presurgical orthodontic treatment and 3 months after orthognathic surgery. Skeletal and symphyseal measurements were compared and the relationships between them were analysed. The results were as follow : 1. The labial and lingual alveolar bone height in presurgical and postsurgical group were decreased than that of pretreatment group. 2. The vertical measurements of the craniofacial skeleton showed reverse correlationship with anteroposterior width of basal alveolar bone, but IMPA showed correlatiionship (p<0.01) 3. The craniofacial skeleton and the change of symphyseal measurements(symphyseal length, symphyseal width) showed no correlationship. 4. The labial alveolar bone height showed correlationship with lingual alveolar bone height(p<0.001), and negative correlationship with lingual alveolar crestal width(p<0.01). Labial and lingual alveolar crestal width has negative correlationship (p<0.05). Mandibular symphyseal length and width has positive correlationship(p<0.01). 5. IMPA, LISA showed negative correlationship with labiolingual alveolar bone height and lingual alveolar width and positive correlationship with labial alveolar base bone width.
