  • In this study, we developed a method to predict the residual stress distribution and thermal deformation caused by in-mold labeling (IML) processes. IML is one of the injection molding processes for injecting a material into a cavity and subsequently inserting a decorated film. The IML process can yield products with decorations of outstanding excellent quality in only one working step. Although the IML process has various advantages, it causes defects such as film delamination, wash-out, and flow marks. In particular, deformation is considered to be a major concern in terms of delamination. To validate the model, the deformation predicted by using a numerical model was compared with experimental results, and both results showed good agreement. We verified that the developed method can be used to obtain the design guidelines for preventing delamination in the initial design stage of the IML process.

  • A cDNA of novel immulectin homologue (BmIML), a C-type lectin, was cloned from the silkworm, Bombyx mori. The immulectin cDNA is an open reading frame of 921 bp encoding 307 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence from the BmIML cDNA contains two C-type carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). The BmIML was most similar (61 % protein sequence identity) to the M. sexta immulectin-1, whereas BmIML showed relatively lower identity to the B. mori lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (25% protein sequence identity). These features of BmIML indicate that BmIML is a novel member of C-type lectin superfamily. Northern blot analysis revealed that the BmIML is specifically expressed in the fat body of B. moli larvae.

  • The solution of the normal equation arising in a general linear model by the least square methods is not unique in general. Conventionally, SAS IML and G-inverse matrices are considered for such problems. In this paper, we provide a systematic solution procedures for SAS IML.

  • The Arabidopsis mutants involved in chloroplast development were induced by seed treatment of diepoxybutane which was rarely known mutagenic compound in plant mutagenesis. Three kinds of mutants designated as iml, gev, and yev were represented by the characteristics of variegated leaves, green vein with yellow leaves, and yellow green vein with green leaves respectively. We investigated the ultrastructure of chloroplast in mutated regions using transmission electron microscopy. The ultrastructure of chroloplast in wildtype showed regularly stacked grana thylakoid and stroma thylakoid while iml, gev and yev mutants displayed different shapes of grana stacking and stroma stacking of chloroplasts. Genetic analysis of three chloroplast mutants exhibit that divergent traits were ruled by a single recessive nuclear gene.

  • This paper provides an implementation of data envelopment analysis (DEA) developed by Charnes et al. using SAS. Since a flexible interactive matrix language SAS/IML included in the SAS has a syntax similar with the matrix algebra, one can easily create and understand SAS/IML code for DEA. In this paper, a simple SAS/IML code for DEA and its illustrative implementation with an input-output data set of 25 American private university research libraries are provided.

  • The quasi-likelihood models which greatly widened the scope of generalized linear models are widely used in data analysis where a likelihood is not available. Since a quasi-likelihood may not appear to be an ordinary likelihood for any known distribution in the natural exponential family, to fit the quasi-likelihood models the standard statistical packages such as GLIM, GENSTAT, S-PLUS and so on may not directly applied. SAS/IML is very useful for fitting of such models. In this paper, we present simple SAS/IML(version 6.11) program which helps to fit and analyze the quasi-likelihood models applied to the leaf-blotch data introduced by Wedderburn(1974), and the problem with deviance useful generally to model checking is pointed out, and then its solution method is mention through the data analysis based on this quasi-likelihood models checking.
