  • A Femur is the longest and largest bone which supports body in human musculoskeletal structure. Therefore, it may cause heavy loss of blood when it is suffered by a simple or complex fracture, and the complication is very dangerous with a possibility of severe tissue damage. In this study, the femoral cancellous angle change is estimated in order to design the Korean femoral IM nail. Generally, it is various in the size and curvature of femoral cancellous bone depending on patient's body dimension. Therefore surgeon has difficulty in fitting this femoral IM nail to the patient in the surgical procedure. In our study, we tries to estimate femoral lateral curve angle with more precise method based on CT image of the femur and utilize this information on the design of femoral IM nail for Korean patients.

  • Recombination events complicate the evolutionary history of populations and species and have a significant impact on the inference of isolation-with-migration (IM) models. However, several existing methods have been developed, assuming no recombination within a locus and free recombination between loci. In this study, we investigated the effect of recombination on the estimation of IM models using genomic data. We conducted a simulation study to evaluate the consistency of the parameter estimators with up to 1,000 loci and analyze true gene trees to examine the sources of errors in estimating the IM model parameters. The results showed that the presence of recombination led to biased estimates of the IM model parameters, with population sizes being more overestimated and migration rates being more underestimated as the number of loci increased. The magnitude of the biases tended to increase with the recombination rates when using 100 or more loci. On the other hand, the estimation of splitting times remained consistent as the number of loci increased. In the absence of recombination, the estimators of the IM model parameters remained consistent.

  • Recently, IM(Instant Messenger) of KakaoTalk is being used on smart devices such as smartphones. Because IM service can carry user and/or suspector's various information including life style, geographical position, psychology and crime history, forensic analysis on IM service is desirable. But, forensic analysis for KakaoTalk is not well studied yet. This paper studies a proper forensic method for KakaoTalks, finds artifacts location, reconstruct the list of contacts and the chronology of the messages that have been exchanged by users. Proposed methodology and analyzed information can provide a basic platform for forensic tool.

  • Virus-like symptoms including stunt, severe mosaic with malformation of leaves, fern-like leaves and abnormal petals were observed from an African impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) grown in a plant nursery in Icheon, Korea. Serological analysis using immuno-strip kits for viruses reported in African impatiens indicated that Cucumber mosaic virus (named CMV-Im) was a causal agent for the symptomatic African impatiens. Biological properties of CMV-Im were analyzed using responses of host plant species, suggesting that CMV-Im is a typical strain that belongs to CMV subgroup I. RT-PCR analysis verified CMV-Im infection from naturally infected African impatiens or mechanically inoculated some host species. Analysis of multiple alignments of CMV capsid protein (CP) sequences showed that CMV-Im shared high CP amino acids identities with other CMV strains. Phylogenetic tree analysis for the CP sequences of CMV-Im and representative CMV strains confirmed that CMV is a typical member of CMV subgroup I. To our knowledge, it is the first report of CMV in African impatiens in Korea.

  • Karyotype analysis was carried out on blood samples of 30 water buffaloes belonging to different breed groups (i.e. Philippine Carabao (PC), Indian Murrah (IM), Bulgarian Murrah (BM), "$F_1$ 50% IM-50% PC", "$F_1$ 50% BM-50% PC" and "75% IM-25% PC"), using the modified Leucocyte Culture Technique. The modal chromosome numbers of the PC, "$F_1$ 50% IM-50% PC", "$F_1$ 50% BM-50% PC", IM, BM and "75% IM-25% PC" were 2n=48, 49, 49, 50, 50 and 50, respectively. The water buffalo chromosomes are mostly acrocentric (79.67%) and the remainder submetacentric (20.33%). Results of the ordinary least square analysis showed significant breed effects (p<0.01) on other karyotypic characteristics (i.e. relative length, arm ratio and centromeric index). Significant correlation between karyotypic characteristics and some animal performance traits were also found. The significant correlation values imply that karyotypic characteristics can be used as important criteria to select potentially productive young water buffaloes. In the future, more production and reproduction traits from non-institutional herds should be included in the analysis to reveal meaningful correlations with various karyotypic characteristics.

  • Insensitive Munitions(IM) test methods and passing criteria of MIL-STS-2105D revised in April 2011 were studied since MIL-STD-2105(NAVY) had been created in 1982. Passing criteria of each IM tests has not been established because domestic database of IM tests for rocket motors was not enough, even though IM test and evaluation methods were well established with the same level of advanced countries. In this study, direction of the development for IM of our country was suggested through investigation and analysis of revised test methods and passing criteria.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of emotional venting via instant messaging (IM) and positive emotion in the relationship between negative emotion and depression. Methods: Online survey was conducted in Korea between 2 April and 7 April 2019. To obtain samples with representativeness, data were gathered by the professional research firm. A total of 250 Koreans were participated in this study. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and SPSS PROCESS macro to test the mediating effects. Results: This study analyzed the direct/indirect effects of negative emotion on emotional venting via IM, in the relationship between positive emotion and depression. Negative emotion had indirect effects on depression through emotional venting via IM and positive emotion. Both emotional venting via IM and positive emotion had dual mediating effects in the influence of negative emotion on depression. Conclusion: These results suggest that it is important to manage negative emotion to prevent depression. Also, this study confirmed that emotional venting via IM is a powerful factor influencing emotional recovery.

  • In this paper, a new linearization method has been proposed for a CMOS low noise amplifier(LNA) using the Post IM3 Compensator. The fundamental operating theory of the proposed method is to cancel the IM3 components of the LNA output signal by generating another IM3 components, which are out-phase with respect to that of the LNA, from the Post IM3 Compensator. A single stage common-source LNA has been designed to verify the linearity improvement of the proposed method through $0.13{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process for WiBro system. The designed LNA achieves +7.8 dBm of input-referred 3^{rd}$-order intercept point (IIP3) with 13.2 dB of Power Gain, 1.3 dB of noise figure and 5.7mA @1.5V power consumption. IIP3 is compared with a conventional single stage common-source LNA, and it shows IIP3 is increased by +12.5 dB without degrading other features such as gain and noise figure.

  • Subconfluent neonatal human epidermal keratinocytes were treated with a concentration 200 ng/$m\ell$ of human recombinant epidermal growth factor (hrEGF), human recombinant insulin-like growth factor-1 (hrIGF-1), and with a combination of hrEGF and hrIGF-1. Cytoplasmic and membrane-associated proteins were extracted and assayed. Proteins were separated by SDS-PAGE, and subjected to the western blot analysis. In the cytoplasmic fraction, the PKC concentration of keratinocyte treated with hrIGF-1 was higher than the control group, but the concentration of control group was the highest than the others in the membrane fraction. In the cytoplasmic fraction, EGF stimulated PKC-$\beta$II, -$\delta$, -$\theta$, and also stimulated PKC-$\alpha$, -$\beta$I, -$\delta$, -$\Im$ and -$\theta$ in the membrane fraction. IGF-1 stimulated PKC-$\beta$I, -$\Im$ and -$\theta$ in the cytoplasmic, PKC-$\alpha$, -$\beta$I, -$\delta$, -$\Im$, - $\varepsilon$ and -$\theta$ in the membrane. In the cells treated with a combination of EGF and IGF-1, PKC-$\alpha$, -$\beta$I, -$\Im$ and -$\theta$ in the cytoplasmic fraction, PKC-$\alpha$, -$\delta$, -$\Im$, -$\varepsilon$ and -$\theta$ in the membrane fraction were stimulated.
