IIR Filter Design of HRTF for Real-Time Implementation of 3D Sound by Synthetic Stereo Method (합성 스테레오 방식 3차원 입체음향의 실시간 구현을 위한 머리전달 함수의 IIR 필터 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for the approximation of high order FIR filters by low order IIR filters to efficient implementing two channel 3-D surround sound systems using Head-related transfer functions(HRTFs). The algorithm is based on a concept of the balanced model reduction. The binaural sounds using the approximated HRTFs are reproduced by headphone, and serves as a cue of sound image localization. HRTFs of dummy-head are approximated from 512-order FIR filters by 32-order IIR filters and compare with each other. .Experiment of sound image are carried out for 10 participants. We perform the experiment based on computer simulation and hardware experiment with TMS320C32. The results of the experiments show that the localization using the approximated HRTFs is the same accuracy as the case of FIR filters that simulate the HRTFs.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the approximation of FIR filters by IIR filters. The algorithm is based on a concept of the balanced model reduction. Head-related transfer functions(HRTFs) of dummy-head are approximated by 32-order IIR filters. The binaural sounds using the approximated HRTFs are reproduced by headphone, and serves as a cue of sound image localization. Experiment of sound image are carried out for 10 participants with computer simulation and DSP board respectively. The results of the experiments show that the localization using the approximated HRTFs by IIR filters is the same accuracy as the case of FIR filters that simulate the HRTFs.

  • The adaptive m filters is more effective than m filters when acoustic feedback exists, in which cause an order of a FIR filter must be very large if some of poles of the ideal control filter are near the unit circle. But the IIR filters may have stability problems especially when the adaptive algorithm is not converged. In this paper, a stabilizing procedure for adaptive IIR filters is proposed. In the beginning of the ANC system, it improve a stability by pulling the poles of the IIR filter to the center of the unit circle, and it returns the poles to their original positions after the filter converge. Computer simulations and experiments are performed to show the effectiveness of proposed schemes.

  • The hybrid design which is to take IIR filter of the first stage as a second order pole-zero model and minimize the filter length of the of the FIR filter of the following stage is presented. The outcome of the simulation showed us that the the filter length in the hybrid filters was remarkably decreased compared to that of the hybrid filters which take the IIR filter as a all-pole model. Although the hybrid filters couldn't obtain the exact linear phase. it was superior to the IIR filters in passband and stopband.

  • 일반적으로 매우 낮은 차단주파수를 가지는 FIR 저역통과 필터의 경우 그 과도영역의 폭이 상대적으로 매우 좁기 때문에 긴 임펄스 응답을 가지게 되며, 따라서 많은 계산량을 필요로 하게 된다. 본 논문에서는, FIR 필터의 계수를 서브샘플링(subsampling)하여 계산량의 현저한 감소를 도모하고, 그로 인하여 발생하는 주파수 영역의 이미지를 IIR 필터를 사용하여 제거하는 기법을 제안한다. IIR 필터로 인하여 발생하는 위상의 왜곡은 앞단의 FIR 필터의 계수를 조절함으로써 상쇄시킬 수 있다. 제안된 알고리듬을 채택할 경우, 동일한 성능의 일반 FIR 필터에 비하여 사용하는 메모리의 양은 거의 같으나, 계산량은 수십분의 일까지 감소시킬 수 있다.

  • This paper describes an IIR/FIR fusion filter for a nonlinear system, and analyzes the stability of the fusion filter. The fusion filter is applied to INS/GPS integrated system, and the performance is verified by simulation and experiment. In the fusion filter, an IIR-type filter (SPKF) and FIR-type filter (MRHKF filter) are processed independently, then the two filters are merged using the mixing probability calculated using the residuals and residual covariance information of the two filters. The merits of the SPKF and the MRHKF filter are embossed and the demerits of the filters are diminished via the filter fusion. Consequently, the proposed fusion filter has robustness against to model uncertainty, temporary disturbing noise, large initial estimation error, etc. The stability of the fusion filter is verified by showing the closeness of the states of the two sub filters in the mixing/redistribution process and the upper bound of the error covariance matrices. This fusion filter is applied into INS/GPS integrated system, and important factors for filter processing are presented. The performance of the INS/GPS integrated system designed using the fusion filter is verified by simulation under various error environments and is confirmed by experiment.

  • 입체음향 시스템의 방향감 제어에서 필수적인 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function)는 일반적으로 FIR 또는 IIR 필터로 구현되며, IIR 필터의 경우 FIR 보다 비교적 저차 모델링이 가능한 장점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 Balanced Model Truncation(BMT)를 이용하여 비교적 높은 차수를 가지는 FIR 필터를 IIR 필터로 설계하여 입체음향 시스템의 실시간 구현시 필수적인 계산의 효율을 높이는 방법을 제시하고, 기존의 방법과의 성능의 비교 평가를 하고자 한다.

  • FIR형은 하드웨어 규모가 커져서 구성이 어렵다는 단점을 가지고 있으나, IIR형은 적은 차수로써 큰 차수의 FIR필터를 대신할 수 있다. IIR형은 적은 계산량과 간단한 하드웨어 구성이라는 장점을 갖고 있으나 수렴성에 있어서는 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 적은 차수로 양호한 수렴특성을 갖는 IIR 필터를 구성하기 위하여 연속시간영역의 직교필터를 이산시간영역으로 변환하고 직교성을 유지하도록 정규화한 정규직교함수계에 의해서 설정된 전달함수를 적응 디지틀필터에 적용하였다. 이 방법을 확인하기 위하여 FIR형에 비교해서 적은 차수로 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과 양호한 수렴특성을 확인하였다.

  • 입체음향을 구현하는 방법에는 5 혹은 6 개의 스피커를 사용하는 5.1 채널 음향재생 시스템과 2개의 스피커를 사용하는 방법있다. 2 채널 입체음향재생 시스템은 라우드 스피커 재생보다 헤드폰 재생에 사용되고 있다. 2 채널로 입체음향을 재생하기 위하여 사람의 머리와 귀바퀴를 FIR 필터로 모델링한 머리전달함수(HRTF, head related transfer function)을 이용한다. FIR 필터로 측정된 HRTF는 실시간 처리에 있어서 계산량이 많은 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 2 채널 입체 음향시스템을 효과적으로 구현하기 위하여 FIR HRTF를 HR필터로 구현하는 방법을 제안한다. FIR 필터계수로부터 IIR 필터계수를 구하는 알고리즘은 균형화 모델 감소법(balanced model reduction)을 이용한다. 본 논문에서는 IIR 필터로 차수를 줄인 HRTF로 입체음향을 재생하는 시뮬레이션을 하였다.

  • In recent years, digital processing techniques have been applied diversity of fields. Typical signal processing techniques are speech processing and image processing. And filters for the signal processing can be divided in FIR (finite impulse response) filter and IIR (infinite impulse response) filter. Compared with IIR filter, the FIR Filter has a defect of high-degree, but has a merit of stability and uses simply. Futhermore, FIR filter also has linear phase response characteristics, it is using in fields regarding wave information importantly. To FIR Filter design, the main issue is to remove the Gibbs phenomenon. Therefore, in this paper I was proposed a method using FIR digital filter applied a modified window function and the method was compared with conventional methods.
