Regarding to the cadastral information and building information as a spatial information, studies on linking between cadastral records and building information, or integration methodology on 2D based building map and land information were proposed. Cadastral information has grown its values by cadastral resurvey project and cadastral confirmation survey. There is a tendency of BIM in the design stage which is not just simple 3D dataset and BIM is spreading in public and private sectors. However, studies on the linkage between building information and cadastral information is relatively weak comparing to the BIM spreading. One of the main features that have been improved in IFC4 is the interoperability with GIS. In this regards, the researcher propose several revision methods to link cadastral information to building information. Cadastral information needs to improve the quality of the dataset's such as unifying the different coordinate systems and preparing continuous cadastral map. For buildings, standardization of BIM in the public and private sectors is urgent task. IFC4 and upcoming IFC5 are international standards which need to be considered and BIM reverse engineering for the existing buildings is necessary for the public utilization in the near future.

To increase the usability of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction projects, it is critical to ensure the interoperability of data between heterogeneous BIM software. The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), an international ISO format, has been established for this purpose, but due to its structural complexity, geometric information and properties are not always transmitted correctly. Recently, deep learning approaches have been used to learn the shapes of the BIM elements and thereby verify the mapping between BIM elements and IFC entities. These models performed well for elements with distinct shapes but were limited when their shapes were highly similar. This study proposed a method to improve the performance of the element type classification by using an Ensemble model that leverages not only shapes characteristics but also the relational information between individual BIM elements. The accuracy of the Ensemble model, which merges MVCNN and MLP, was improved 0.03 compared to the existing deep learning model that only learned shape information.

In this paper we propose a framework for an Object Relational IFC Server (OR-IFC Server). Enormous amounts of information are generated in each project. Today, many BIM systems are developed by various CAD software vendors. Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) developed by International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) is an open standard data model for exchanging data between the various BIM tools. The IFC provides a foundation for exchanging and sharing of information directly between software applications and define a shared building project model. The IFC model server is a database management system that can keep track of transactions, modifications, and deletions. It plays a role as an information hub for storing and sharing information between various parties involved in construction projects. Users can communicate with each other via the internet and utilize functions implemented in the model server such as partial data import/export, file merge, version control, etc. IFC model servers using relational database systems have been developed. However, they suffered from slow performance and long transaction time due to a complex mapping process between the IFC structure and a relational-database structure because the IFC model schema is defined in the EXPRESS language which is object-favored language. In order to simplify the mapping process, we developed a set of rules to map the IFC model to an object-relational database (ORDB). Once the database has been configured, only those pieces of information that are required for a specific information-exchange scenario are extracted using the pre-defined information delivery manual (IDM). Therefore, file sizes will be reduced when exchanging data, meaning that files can now be effectively exchanged and shared. In this study, the framework of the IFC server using ORDB and IDM and the method to develop it will be examined.

Building information modeling (BIM) element to industry foundation classes (IFC) entity mappings need to be checked to ensure the semantic integrity of BIM models. Existing studies have demonstrated that machine learning algorithms trained on geometric features are able to classify BIM elements, thereby enabling the checking of these mappings. However, reliance on geometry is limited, especially for elements with similar geometric features. This study investigated the employment of relational data between elements, with the assumption that such additions provide higher classification performance. Neural structured learning, a novel approach for combining structured graph data as features to machine learning input, was used to realize the experiment. Results demonstrated that a significant improvement was attained when trained and tested on eight BIM element types with their relational semantics explicitly represented.

As the seriousness of environmental pollution being on a rise, a low carbon and environment-friendly design for energy efficiency has been issued. With respect to energy in the construction industry, an adoption of BIM which is possible for the various energy performance assessments in the early design phase has been actively working on. In the most cases of energy performance assessment, the data compatibility from the lack of standard software and format became a problem and the improvement for data compatibility system has been needed. This study is to develop the IFC based IDF converter as a middleware which connects between BIM software and energy analysis software. For the building energy performance assessment, Energy Plus and IFC are selected for the standard energy analysis software and its file format. Parameters are organized by steps and the integrated material library is built so it is trying to reduce the existing problem of energy software interface as much as possible. The development of IDF Converter will promote the spread of related fields with increasing the BIM standard and the utilization of energy performance assessment.

Cost Estimate for alternative in design phase of construction become criterion for profitability and feasibility analysis of projects. Initial design phase performed schematic estimate based on similar data in the past. The quantity take-off according to estimators experience and calculation method are occurred different or missing. IT (Information Technology) technology evolution has been promoting BIM technology in construction. It is changing the paradigm of planning, design, construction and maintenance phase throughout the construction project. A number of studies have been attempted to apply BIM technology in the construction. In this paper, we propose schematic estimation framework linking standard format IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) and estimate related knowledge. As a result, it performs a cost prediction for decision-making in the design phase, and expected to overcome the limitations of previous studies. In addition, it is possible actively coping with changes.

The Architecture, engineering & construction (AEC) industry domains have grown more complex and larger. BIM is a digital representation of a building to facilitate the exchange and development of construction information integration and interoperability. Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs), under development by International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), represent the part of buildings or elements of a process. IFC has been adopted as a central information repository in order to deliver integrated information. BIM softwares could open the IFC file, recognize standard objects. However, sometimes, information distortion or information loss occurs during information exchange. As project participants exchange BIM information by using BIM softwares they will need a reliable and efficient exchange of information. This paper suggests the BIM object information compatibility problems among BIM softwares and classify the BIM object information compatibility problems.

A methodology for BIM Quality Assurance in the construction industry is becoming increasingly an important issue to determine the reliability of BIM. However, the quality assurance of BIM is currently limited to check 3D models, such as clash detection and space layout while verification methods for disciplinary BIM results from structural engineering, mechanical engineering, and estimation do not exist yet. Particularly, in the BIM-based estimation mathematical equations to take off quantities are not clearly exposed so that the results are not quite accepted at practices. With the concept of reliability engineering defined in the manufacturing industry to improve reliability of outcomes of BIM-based quantity take-off, impacting factors that affect reliability of BIM-based quantity take-off were derived. It was found that the factors also include the modeling method and the features of a BIM tool. Therefore, this research aims to propose modeling and verification methods to improve reliability of BIM-based quantity take-off through the pilot test that was performed with commercial BIM tools and IFC-based BIM data.

In order to improve the productivity in the civil engineering field, efforts to apply BIM have been continuing, however, research on information modeling of tunnel structures considering alignment is insufficient. In this study, we proposed the method of building tunnel models reflecting curved alignment by transferring point data to BIM Authoring Tools(BAT) through discretization of alignment in Alignment-centered Modeling Tools(AMT). IFC data schema was derived to consider the physical and spatial elements of tunnel structures and alignment and IFC-based information management for tunnel alignment, tunnel structures and ground conditions was possible by referring to the extended data schema and including meanings in IFC property sets. The ratings for ground condition in Rock Mass Rating(RMR) and Q-system was automatically derived by using generated information model according to the proposed method.

Recently BIM is utilized to improve productivity for Life Cycle Cost of construction projects. Therefore, the establishment of BIM process by each construction project is a necessary element. However, cases and the pertinent researches that BIM process by each project is established are still not enough in Korea. The study proposed construction of BIM process through how to set up BIM application, how to organize a BIM team, how to set up a family and modeling method in the early stage. To achieve the purpose, the study examined application ability of BIM process by carrying out basic setting and modeling work through pilot study model, examination of the amount of materials and information interchange with IFC. The study attempted making a foundation of domestic BIM guideline construction through the above examination.
