Supported nickel catalysts for the decomposition of hydrazine borane N2H4BH3

  • In this work, we present the catalytic dehydrogenation of hydrazine borane $N_2H_4BH_3$ (HB) using supported nickel catalysts at $50^{\circ}C$. In the presence of monometallic nickel catalysts, the dehydrogenation of HB is a one-step reaction consisting of the hydrolysis of the $BH_3$ group only. The challenge is to activate nickel to make it reactive towards the $N_2H_4$ moiety of HB. A set of 52 catalysts were prepared by using 2 supports ($Al_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$), 5 nickel precursors and 3 preparation methods. For the first time, we show that the supported nickel catalysts are able to dehydrogenate the $NH_3$ moiety of HB. In our experimental conditions, the best results were obtained with 20 wt% Ni-$Al_2O_3$ and 20 wt% Ni-$TiO_2$, with ca. 190 mL $H_2+N_2$ generated over a total theoretical volume of 283 mL, suggesting $H_2$ selectivity of 37 and 32%, respectively. Both catalysts were then characterized by EDX, XPS, and XRD. Our achievement is the first step forward and opens new perspectives for developing catalysts for the total dehydrogenation of HB.

Preparation of Heterogeneous Ion Exchange Membranes and Evaluation of Desalination Performance in Capacitive Deionization (불균질 이온교환막의 제조와 축전식 탈염에서의 탈염 성능 평가)

  • We prepared heterogeneous ion exchange membranes (hetero-IEMs) for the application of membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI). Hetero-IEMs were fabricated by compressing the mixture of ion exchange resin powders and liner low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Characterization and MCDI desalination experiments were carried for the fabricated membranes. Electrical resistance of membrane decreased and water content increased with increasing the resin content in the hetero-IEMs. However, transport number indicating permselectivity of membrane was similar with that of commercial homogenesous ion exchange membrane. The results of MCDI desalination experiments showed that the adsorption amount for hetero-IEM was about 90% of that of homogeneous membrane due to the high electrical resistance of hetero-IEM. Although desalination performance of hetero-IEM decreased compared with homogeneous membrane, it was thought to be applicable to MCDI because of simple preparation and low price.

The Development Methodology of Korea Command and Control Information Exchange Model (한국 지휘통제 정보교환모델 개발 방법론 연구)

  • The importance of interoperability between weapon systems is continuously increasing. Usually it is implemented by data exchange. The existence of information heterogeneities between systems decreases the efficiency and quality of the implementations enterprise-widely. Many other developed countries increase the efficiency and quality of the implementations by using information exchange model commonly. However, Korean military is still not aware of the importance and necessity of the model. This study explains the necessity of development and adaptation of the Korea command and control information exchange model(KC2IEM), and presents the methodology for the development of the model, and verifies and improves it through a prototype model development. The completion of the information exchange model could not be possible by academic research, therefore this study contributes as a motivation and a stepping stone for the following developments.

An Automatic Diagnosis Methods for Impact Location Estimation

  • In this paper, a real time diagnostic algorithm for estimating the impact location by loose parts is proposed. It is composed of two modules such as the alarm discrimination module (ADM) and the impact-location estimation module(IEM). First, ADM decides whether the detected signal that triggers the alarm is the impact signal by loose parts or the noise signal. Second, IEM by use of the arrival time method estimates the impact location of loose parts. In order to validate the application of this method, the test experiment with a mock-up (flat board and reactor) system is performed. The experimental results show the efficiency of this algorithm even under high level noise and potential application to Loose Part Monitoring System (LPMS) for improving diagnosis capability in nuclear power plants.

Systematic Approach for the Diagnosis of IEM in the Neonatal Period (신생아기의 유전성대사이상질환의 체계적 접근방법)

  • Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of inborn errors of metabolism have improved substantially the prognosis of many of these diseases, if diagnosed early enough before irreversible damage occurs. This makes it essential that the practicing pediatrician, especially neonatologists be familliar with the clinical presentations and systematic approaches of these disorders. Characteristic clinical presentations, methods of systematic approach and typing of various disorders is discussed in this review. The signs of neurological dysfunctions of many IEMs manifesting in the neonatal period is very nonspecific, such as poor feeding, poor sucking, apnea or tachypnea, vomiting, hypertonia, hypotonia, seizure, letharginess, consciousness change and coma. Many other non-metabolic severe disorders of neonatal period such as neonatal sepsis and intracerebral hemorrhage share these nonspecific symptoms. Hyperammonemia, metabolic acidosis, ketosis and hyperlatic acidemia are observed in many of these conditions but there are exceptions in which conditions all basal laboratory tests are normal, such as NKH, sulfite oxidase deficiency and peroxisomal disorders. According to the results of basal laboratory tests, IEMs in the neonatal period can be categorized in to 6 types. Grouping of IEMs into 6 types will make confirmatory tests and early emergency treatment more efficient.

Performance of a submerged membrane bioreactor for wastewater mimicking fish meal processing effluent

  • The objective of this work was to analyze organic matter removal, nitrification, biomass growth and membrane fouling in a submerged flat-sheet membrane bioreactor, fed with synthetic wastewater, of similar composition to the effluents generated in a fish meal industry. After biomass acclimatization with saline conditions of 12 gNaCl/L and COD/N ratio of 15 in the bioreactor, results showed that the organic matter removal was higher than 90%, for all organic loading rates (0.8, 1, 1.33 and $2gCOD/L{\cdot}d$) and nitrogen loading rates (0.053, 0.067, 0.089 and $0.133gN/L{\cdot}d$) tested during the study. However, nitrification was only carried out with the lowest OLR ($0.8gCOD/L{\cdot}d$) and NLR ($0.053gN/L{\cdot}d$). An excessive concentration of organic matter in the wastewater appears as a limiting factor to this process' operating conditions, where nitrification values of 65% were reached, including nitrogen assimilation to produce biomass. The analysis of membrane fouling showed that the bio-cake formation at the membrane surface is the most impacting mechanism responsible of this phenomenon and it was demonstrated that organic and nitrogen loading rates variations affected membrane fouling rate.

A Modified Residual-based Extended Kalman Filter to Improve the Performance of WiFi RSSI-based Indoor Positioning (와이파이 수신신호세기를 사용하는 실내위치추정의 성능 향상을 위한 수정된 잔차 기반 확장 칼만 필터)

  • This paper presents a modified residual-based EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) for performance improvement of indoor positioning using WiFi RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) measurement. Radio signal strength in indoor environments may have irregular attenuation characteristics due to obstacles such as walls, furniture, etc. Therefore, the performance of the RSSI-based positioning with the conventional trilateration method or Kalman filter is insufficient to provide location-based accurate information services. In order to enhance the performance of indoor positioning, in this paper, error analysis of the distance calculated by using the WiFi RSSI measurement is performed based on the radio propagation model. Then, an IARM (Irregularly Attenuated RSSI Measurement) error is defined. Also, it shows that the IARM error is included in the residual of the positioning filter. The IARM error is always positive. So, it is presented that the IARM error can be estimated by taking the absolute value of the residual. Consequently, accurate positioning can be achieved based on the IEM (IARM Error Mitigated) EKF with the residual modified by using the estimated IARM error. The performance of the presented IEM EKF is verified experimentally.

  • 전술데이터링크는 전장 환경에서 모든 플랫폼들을 네트워크를 통해 하나로 묶어 전쟁 효과를 극대화할 수 있는 기반이 되는 통신 기술이다. 이러한 전술데이터링크의 원활한 운영을 위해 플랫폼간 시간 동기가 필수적이며, 대부분 GPS(Global Positioning System)를 사용하고 있다. 전세계적으로 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 전술데이터링크인 Link-16 에서는 네트워크에 가입하면서 NTR(Network Time Reference) 과의 시간을 동기화하는 절차를 제공한다. 이러한 시간 동기 절차는 대략적인 동기와 정밀한 동기의 두 단계로 구분된다. 대략적인 동기는 프레임이 시작하는 첫 타임 슬롯에서 주변 노드로부터 IEM(Initial Entry Message)을 수신하여 전송 시간만큼의 오류를 포함하는 시간 동기 방식이다. 본 논문에서는 모의 실험을 통해 IEM 을 전송하는 노드의 거리에 따른 메시지의 충돌 확률을 구하고, 그 충돌 확률에 따라 시간 동기에 소요되는 시간으로 Link-16 의 시간 동기 성능을 분석하였다.

Systematic Approach for the Diagnosis of IEM (유전성대사이상질환의 진단의 체계적 접근)

  • Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) have improved substantially the prognosis of many of these diseases, if diagnosed early enough before irreversible damage occurs. Diseases of inborn errors of metabolism are so diverse over several hundred disease up to now and may be several thousand in near future, and these diversities of IEMs make clinicians embarassed. The signs of neurological dysfunctions of many IEMs manifesting in the neonatal period is very nonspecific, such as poor feeding, poor sucking, apnea or tachypnea, vomiting, hypertonia, hypotonia, seizure, letharginess, consciousness change and coma. But after neonatal period, the signs of neurological deficits become specific and localized. The results of routine basal laboratory tests such as metabolic acidosis, hyperammonemia, lactic acidemia, ketonemia or hyperuricemia can give very important clinical clues for the diagnosis of IEMs. Even no abnormal findings on routine laboratory test could be very important clue for NKH, sulfite oxidase deficiency and peroxisomal disorders. These various clinical manifestations of these diverse diseases can be categorized and summarized. This makes it essential that the practicing clinicians be familiar with the clinical presentations and symptomatic and systematic approaches of these disorders. Characteristic clinical presentations, methods of symptomatic and systematic approach and typing of various disorders is discussed in this review.

Validity and Reliability of a Korean version of Interpersonal Emotion Management Strategies Scale (한국어판 간호사의 대인관계 감정관리 전략 척도의 타당도와 신뢰도)

  • This study consisted of methodological research verifying the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the interpersonal emotion management (IEM) strategies scale after translating and modifying the scale developed by Little et al. The study verified the content validity, construct validity, concurrent validity and reliability based on 189 nurses working at four hospitals in the Seoul and Gyeonggi region. In this study, the Korean version of the IEM strategies scale was comprised of four factors, with a total of 15 questions that included three regarding situation modification, three regarding attention deployment, four regarding cognitive change, and five on modifying emotional response. Furthermore, verification of concurrent validity revealed that the Korean version of the IEM strategies scale was a valid tool as the correlation of the emotional intelligence scale appeared as r=0.60 (p<0.001). The reliability verification showed four factors at Cronbach's ${\alpha}=0.84-90$, confirming that the Korean version of the tool in this study was very reliable.It is important to note that this study provided basic data for the development of educational programs that can effectively control the negative emotions of clinical nurses at the organization level.
