Low-complexity Timing Synchronization System for IEEE802.11a Wireless LANs (IEEE802.11a 무선 랜 적용을 위한 시간동기 시스템 제안)

  • This paper suggests a low-complexity frame timing synchronization system for IEEE802.11a wireless LAN systems. The proposed timing synchronization scheme has been implemented by correlating the received OFDM preamble with quantized coefficients composed of {0, ${\pm}$2$^{0}$ , ${\pm}$2$^1$‥‥‥ ${\pm}$2$^{i}$ ), where i is an integer number. The 2$^{i}$ -valued coefficients enable the multipliers in the correlation system to be simplified to i-bit shifters. So we can design the correlation system using shifters instead of multipliers. We estimate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with conventional systems under the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper we show that the complexity can be reduced by 90% while still maintaining a performance comparable to that of the conventional system.

  • IEEE 802.11e proposed by IEEE 802.11 working group to guarantee QoS has contention based EDCA and contention free based HCCA. HCCA, a centralized polling based mechanism of 802.11e, needs a scheduling algorithm to allocate the network resource efficiently. The existing standard scheduler, however, is inefficient to support for QoS guarantee for real-time service having VBR traffic. To efficiently assign resource for VBR traffic, in this paper, we propose TXOP algorithm based on dual leaky bucket using average resource allocation and peak resource allocation. The minimum TXOP of each station is obtained by using statistical approach to maximize number of stations of which performance satisfy QoS target. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has much higher performance compared with reference scheduler in terms of throughput and delay.

  • in this paper, to improve the narrow bandwidth problem of the microstrip antenna for WLAN and WiFi dual band array antenna was designed to satisfy the bandwidth of 3.6GHz and 5.2GHz it contained with IEEE 802. 11. The substrate of proposed microstrip array antenna is FR-4(er=4.3) and $25mm{\times}45mm{\times}0.8mm$ size and thickness t=0.035mm, and the simulation was used for CST Microwave Studio 2014. input return loss compared -10dB less than operates at and when gain 3.6GHz 2.516dB, 5.2GHz showed the results of 3.581dB. the antenna designed to be miniaturized and the be used in electronic devices such as mobile phone.

  • In this paper, IEEE 802.11 based WLAN(5.2/5.8GHz) wideband Weathercock-shaped microstrip patch antenna was designed and manufactured. The antenna has a size of $17.4{\times}17.4mm^2$ and utilized FR-4 board. The size was minimized for mobility, and Weathercock-shaped U-slot and short-pin was inserted to satisfy adequate bandwidth and double bandwidth resonance characteristics. In addition, the antenna incorporated single both-sided patch, and simulation design optimized the Weathercock-shaped, position of the U-slot and the short-pin, and the length of the patch for the measurement. The manufactured antenna achieved a bandwidth of 695MHz from 5.2~5.8GHz zone(Return loss<-10dB). Achieved a beam width of $81.13^{\circ}$ and $85.43^{\circ}$ for 3-dB beam width of H plane and E p;ane radiation pattern, there was 3.17~4.85dBi gain.

  • In this paper, we propose a design methodology of IEEE 802.11n MAC which aims to achieve the higher throughput of more than 100Mbps in downlink as measured at the MAC-SAP and present the implementation results of MAC using the proposed design methodology. With our proposed methodology, different from the conventional design flow which has the separate codes for the protocol validation, for the network simulation, and for the system implementation, the unified code can be used for the network simulation and the implementation of software and hardware. Our MAC architecture is partitioned into two parts, Upper-layer MAC and Lower-layer MAC, in order to achieve the high efficiency for the new features of IEEE 802.11n standard. They are implemented in software and hardware respectively. The implemented MAC is tested on ARM based FPGA board.

  • The LDPC(Low-Density Parity-Check) code, which is one of the channel encoding methods in IEEE 802.11n wireless LAN standard, has superior error-correcting capabilities. Since the hardware complexity of LDPC decoder is high, it is very important to take into account the trade-offs between hardware complexity and decoding performance. In this paper, the effects of LLR(Log-Likelihood Ratio) approximation on the performance of MSA(Min-Sum Algorithm)-based LDPC decoder are analyzed, and some optimal design conditions are derived. The parity check matrix with block length of 1,944 bits and code rate of 1/2 in IEEE 802.11n WLAN standard is used. In the case of $BER=10^{-3}$, the $E_b/N_o$ difference between LLR bit-widths (6,4) and (7,5) is 0.62 dB, and $E_b/N_o$ difference for iteration cycles 6 and 7 is 0.3 dB. The simulation results show that optimal BER performance can be achieved by LLR bit-width of (7,5) and iteration cycle of 7.

Printed Folded Antenna for Dual-Band WLAN Operations

  • A novel printed inverted-F antenna for dual-band WLAN is presented. The proposed design is based on the folded quarter-wave antennas, which have a conductor plate having two arms. An extremely thin prototype antenna is fabricated according to the simulation result. The obtained antenna can perform in IEEE802.11a, b(2.4~2.484 GHz and 5.15~5.35 GHz bands) and be adopted for laptop applications. All the measurements are performed in the actual test fixture.

Design of MIMO Antenna With High Isolation by Using an Isolation Aid for WLAN (아이솔레이션 에이드를 사용하여 높은 격리도를 가지는 무선랜용 MIMO 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper we design MIMO antenna with high isolation between antennas by using an isolation aid for WLAN. Two dual-band PIFAs which operates IEEE 802.11n are arranged symmetrically along the central axis of antenna frame and ground plane. By inserting an isolation aid between two PIFAs the isolation is improved maximum 5dB and 7dB for 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band respectively. Total efficiency is above 60%. ECC is below 0.1.

  • Due to the advance of WLAN technology, the use of the multimedia service such as the video streaming service has been increased in the home network. However, we need to study the method which decreases the transmission delay and the frame loss rate to provide QoS of the video streaming service. Therefore, this paper proposes an active buffer management mechanism to guarantee QoS of the streaming service in IEEE 802.11e EDCA. The proposed protocol discards the frame in the HoL of the buffer based on the importance of each frame and the virtual transmission delay of frame newly arriving at the buffer. In the simulation results, the proposed algorithm not only decreases the frame loss probability of important I and P frames but also stabilizes the transmission delay. It may increase the QoS of video streaming services.
