Possible enhancement of myocardial protection with oxygenated crystalloid cardioplegia and blood cardioplegia were evaluated in a cardiac enzyme study. The bicarbonate-containing solution equilibrated with 100% oxygen becomes highly alkaline as carbon dioxide is released. 95% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide was added to the crystalloid cardioplegic solution [St. Thomas` Hospital No. 2 Solution] for prevention of severe alkalinity of oxygenated crystalloid cardioplegia. Heart was arrested and reinfused every 20 minutes throughtout the ischemic period with crystalloid cardioplegia or oxygenated crystalloid cardioplegia or blood cardioplegia. Group I was a patient with crystalloid cardioplegia in 11 patients. Group II was a patient with oxygenated crystalloid cardioplegia in 9 patients. Group III was a patient with blood cardioplegia in 15 patients. The value of CK-MB was evaluated from the patient`s serum at 6 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours postoperatively. In Group I and II, there was no significant change of CK-MB. In Group I and III, the value of CK-MB at postoperative 6 hours was 114$\pm$83 ng/ml and 56$\pm$22 ng/ml [P < 0.05]. In conclusion, blood cardioplegia was superior to crystalloid cardioplegia.

Rotating annular disks are widely used in data storage devices such as CDs, DVDs(digital versatile disks), and HDs(hard disks). Higher data transfer rate in data storage disks could not be achieved by polycarbonate disks in the present market. The problem can be solved by applying the fiber-reinforce composite materials to the disks. In this paper, an application of composite materials to rotating disks is proposed to increase the critical speed. Dynamic equation is formulated in order to calculate the natural frequency and critical speed for rotating composite disks by the Galerkin method. The orthogonal functions are used in series solution. A companion paper(Part II) presents and discusses the numerical results of vibration analysis and critical speed for rotating polar orthotropic disk using the formulation and solution method given in this paper (Part I).
The existence of solutions of the following multi-point boundary value problem $${x^{(n)}(t)=f(t,\;x(t),\;x'(t),{\cdots}, x^{(n-2)}(t))+r(t),\;0 is studied. Sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one solution of BVP(*) are established. It is of interest that the growth conditions imposed on f are allowed to be super-linear (the degrees of phases variables are allowed to be greater than 1 if it is a polynomial). The results are different from known ones since we don't apply the Green's functions of the corresponding problem and the method to obtain a priori bounds of solutions are different enough from known ones. Examples that can not be solved by known results are given to illustrate our theorems.

The interaction between tetraethylammonium chloride (TEACl) with ICl and tetraethylammonium iodide (TEAI) and aza-15-crown-5 (A15C5) with $I_2$ and ICl have been examined spectrophotometrically in acetonitrile solution. The results of TEACl-ICl indicate the formation of $ICl_2$ - through equilibrium reaction. In the case of TEAI-$I_2$ and A15C5-$I_2$, the equilibrium formation of $I_3$ - is confirmed. The interaction of TEAI-ICl begins with the simultaneous production of $I_2$ and IC$I_2$ - (at TEAI/ICl < 0.5) as well as continues with the simultaneous consumption of $I_2$ and formation of I$I_3$ - (at TEAI/ICl > 0.5). Similar behavior is also observed for A15C5-ICl system. However, the changes are seen at A15C5/ICl mole ratios less and more than 0.66. Several equations have been suggested for the formation of detected species. The formation constants of various reactions were evaluated from the computer fitting of the absorbance-mole ratio data. IR spectra of A15C5 and 1:1 A15C5:ICl or A15C5:$I_2$ complexes are compared and the effect of complexation on absorption bands is discussed.
I investigated Korean college students' conception about the volume change of solution when they detected the equivalence point during acid/base titration experiment using method of volume measurement. According to this study, most college students had a misconception that the volume increment was due to the formation of water by neutralization during acid/base titration. However, this is not enough to explain the volume change, neglecting contribution of a salt in solution. I calculated the partial molar volume of NaCl formed to explain the volume increment of solution during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Comparing the result of experiment with the calculation of partial molar volume, I elucidated that the main effect of volume increment was due to the partial molar volume of NaCl formed during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Here I propose to introduce college students to the concept of partial molar volume of the salt formed to reduce misconception about the volume change of solution during acid/base neutralization.

Recently, the detection of pH with real-time and in vivo has been focal pointed in the environmental or medical fields. In this work, we developed the pH sensor using graphene sheet. Graphene has high biocompatibility. We fabricated flexible solution-gated field-effect transistors (SGFETs) on graphene sheet transferred on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to detect pH in electrolyte solution. The gate length was $500{\mu}m$ and the gate width was 8 mm. We evaluated the current-voltage (I-V) transfer characteristics of graphene SGFETs in pH solution. The drain-source current ($I_{DS}$) and the gate-source voltage ($V_{GS}$) curves of graphene SGFETs were depended on pH value. The Dirac point of graphene SGFETs linearly shifted to the positive direction about 19.32 mV/pH depending on the pH value in electrolyte solution.
A number of mimetic peptides of apolipoprotein A-I, a major component for high density lipoproteins (HDL), were screened from the phase-displayed random peptide library by utilizing monoclonal antibodies (A12). A mimetic peptide for A12 epitope against apolipoprotein A-I was selected as FVLVRDTFPSSVCCP(pA2) exhibiting 45% homology with Apo A-I in the BLAST search. Solution structure determination of this mimotope was made by using 2D-NMR data and NMR-based distance geometry (DG)/molecular dynamic calculations. The resulting DG structures had low penalty value of 0.4-0.6 ${\AA}^2$ and the total RMSD of 0.7-1.7 ${\AA}$. The mimotope pA2 exhibited a characteristic ${\beta}$-turn conformation from Val[2] to Phe[8] near Pro[9] residue.
The purpose of this paper is to defend Kripke's theory of truth from Simmons' objection. First after introducing various sorts of the liar paradox, briefly I explain Tarski's attempt to solve the puzzle. Then, I outline Kripke's solution by using the concept of 'fixed point'. Simmons offers an interesting objection against Kripke's solution. He uses a diagonal argument in his attack to Kripke's idea. I claim that Simmons seem to use 'exclusion negation' in refuting Kripke. I think, however, there is an alternative interpretation, which is 'choice negation'. With using choice negation, I maintain that Kripke's theory of ruth can be defended from Simmons' objection.

The sulfur-iodine thermochemical water splitting process of GA(General atomic) cycle was studied to produce hydrogen from water by $H_2-I_2-SO_2$ reactions. The experimental scale was 500g based on iodine. The reaction took 100 minutes, products could be separated two liquid phases due to their density difference:HI solution had a density of 2.39~2.61g/cc, and $H_2SO_4$ solution had 1.37~1.38g/cc. The condition of reaction was when weight ratio of $I_2/H_2O$ was 2/1 resulting in good phase separation and productivity.

The team orienteering problem (TOP) or the multiple tour maximum collection problem can be considered as a generic model that can be applied to a number of challenging applications in logistics, tourism, and other fields. This problem is generally defined as the problem of determining P paths, in which the traveling time of each path is limited by $T_{max}$ that maximizes the total collected score. In the TOP, a set of N vertices i is given, each with a score $S_i$. The starting point (vertex 1) and the end point (vertex N) of all paths are fixed. The time $t_{ij}$ needed to travel from vertex i to j is known for all vertices. Some exact and heuristics approaches had been proposed in the past for solving the TOP. This paper proposes a new solution methodology for solving the TOP using the particle swarm optimization, especially by proposing a solution representation and its decoding method. The performance of the proposed algorithm is then evaluated using several benchmark datasets for the TOP. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm using specific settings is capable of finding good solution for the corresponding TOP instance.
