This study aims to obtain technical data for improvement of utilization of Blast Furnace Slag(BFS), recycled aggregate in the future by complementing fundamental problems of BFS such as manifestation of initial strength and excessive alkali quantity as well as weakness of recycled fine aggregate through manufacturing of recycled fine aggregate mortar using BFS. Since hydroxide ion concentration of calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2) ion erupted from recycled fine aggregate newly produced is over 12. In recycled fine aggregate mortar transposing and using BFS powder, calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2) erupted from recycled fine aggregate played a role of stimulus from the day 3 and manifestation of compressive strength was slowly increased with mortar using natural fine aggregate and showed considerable increase from the day 7.
The purpose of this study was two-fold. First was to evaluate whether the molecular sieving model was appropriate for ionic dissociation experiment. Second was to compare the dissociation of calcium and hydroxyl ions from five types of calcium hydroxide pastes (Pure calcium hydroxide paste, DT temporary $dressing^{\circledR},{\;}Metapaste^{\circledR},{\;}Chidopex^{\circledR},{\;}Metapex^{\circledR}$) in three vehicles (aqueous, viscous and oily) and the antibacterial effect. Each calcium hydroxide pastes was placed into 0.65ml tube with cap and then 15% polyacrylamide gel was placed onto calcium hydroxide pastes. After the gel was hardened, the tubes were filled with tridistilled water (pH 7.14) and closed with cap. The tubes were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ 100% incubator The pH reading and the concentration of calcium ions were taken at 1, 4, 7. 10, and 14 days. The brain heart infusion agar plates with S. mutans and A. actinomycetemcomitans were used far antibacterial activity test. Middle of agar plate was filled with the calcium hydroxide pastes. The plates were incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ and observations were made to detect the zones of inhibition. These data were evaluated statistically by use of the analysis of variance and duncan test. The results were as follows. 1. In fresh mixing state, the pH of five types of calcium hydroxide pastes were measured between 12.5 and 12.8. 2. The pH was increased in all five types of calcium hydroxide pastes compared with control group. In 14 days, Pure calcium hydroxide paste (11.45) and DT temporary $dressing^{\circledR}$ (11.33) showed highest pH, followed by $Metapaste^{\circledR}$ (9.49), $Chidopex^{\circledR}$ (8.37) and $Metapex^{\circledR}$ (7.59) 3. Calcium was higher in all five types of calcium hydroxide pastes compared with control group. In 14 days, Pure calcium hydroxide paste (137.29 mg%) and DT temporary $dressing^{\circledR}$ (124.6 mg%) showed highest value, followed by $Metapaste^{\circledR}$ (116.74 mg%), $Chidopex^{\circledR}$ (111.84 mg%) and $Metapex^{\circledR}$ (60.22 mg%). 4. The zones of bacterial inhibition were seen around all five types of calcium hydroxide pastes. $Chidopex^{\circledR}{\;}and{\;}Metapex^{\circledR}$ groups which include iodoform were observed significantly larger zone of inhibition in A. actinomycetemcomitans compared with the other calcium hydroxide groups (p<0.05) However, $Metapex^{\circledR}$ showed the least antibacterial effect on S. mutans compared with other groups (p<0.05). The molecular sieving model was found to be acceptable in dissociation experiment of hydroxyl and calcium ions when compared with the previous tooth model study. But this model was not appropriate for the antibacterial test.
A study on the removal of Pb ion from Pb-contaminated soil was carried out using ex-site extraction process. Tartaric acid (TA) and iminodiacetic acid sodium salt(IDA) as a washing agent were evaluated as a function of concentration reaction time mixing ratio of washing agent and recycling of washing agent. TA showed a better extraction performance than IDA. The optimum washing condition of TA and IDA were in the ratio of 1:15 and 1:20 between soil and acid solution during 1 hr reaction. The total concentrations of Pb ion by TA and IDA at three repeated extraction were 368.8 ppm and 267.5 ppm respectively. The recovery of Pb ion from washing solution was achieved by adding calcium hydroxide and sodium sulfide form the precipitation of lead hydroxide and lead sulfide and optimum amounts of sodium sulfide and calcium hydroxide were 7 g/$\ell$ for the TA washing solution and 4 g/$\ell$, 5g/$\ell$ for the IDA washing solution respectively. The efficiency of recycle for TA and IDA washing solution were 78.8% , 95.1%, and 89.2%, 96.6% at third extractions under $Na_2S$ and $Ca(OH)_2$, respectively.
A study on the remediation of heavily for ion contaminated soils from abandoned iron mine was carried out, using ex-situ extraction process. Also, oxalic acid as a complex agent was evaluated as a function of concentration, reaction time and mixing ratio of washing agent in order to evaluate Fe removability of the soil contaminated from the abandoned iron mine. Oxalic acid showed a better extraction performance than 0.1N-HCl, i.e., the concentrations of Fe ion extracted from the abandoned mine for the former at uncontrolled pH and the latter were 1,750 ppm and 1,079 ppm, respectively. The optimum washing condition of oxalic acid was in the ratio of 1:5 and 1:10 between soil and acid solution during l hr reaction. The total concentrations of Fe ion by oxalic acid and EDTA at three repeated extraction, were 4,554 ppm and 864 ppm, respectively. The recovery of Fe ions from washing solution was achieved, forming hydroxide precipitation and metal sulfide under excess of calcium hydroxide and sodium sulfide. In addition, the amounted of sodium sulfide and calcium hydroxide for the optimal revovery of Fe were 15g/$\ell$ and 5g/$\ell$ from the oxalic acid complexes, respectively.
The rate-constants of hydrolysis of 3, 4-methylenedioxyphenylmethylenemalononitrile are determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry at various pH and a rate equation which can be applied over wide pH range is obtained. The rate equation reveals that below pH 5.0 and above pH 9.0, the hydrolysis is initiated by the addition of water and hydroxide ion respectively. However, at pH 6.0-8.0 the competitive addition of water and hydroxide ion occurs. The catalytic contribution of hydroxide ion and water can be fully explained by the rate equation obtained.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility to reduce the toxicity of oil based root canal sealers containing calcium hydroxide using MTT & agar overlay assays. Thus some formulations of traditional root canal sealers were replaced with oil-soluble solvents and experimental root canal sealers manufactured. In MTT assay, Cell viability of all experimental sealers in addition with oil soluble solvents were observed significantly higher than both control groups, especially according to replace zinc and/or calcium ion components. Also agar overlay assay was appeared moderate to no cell responses into modifying both zinc and/or calcium ion components and oil soluble solvent weight. Authors found the reducing effect of cell toxicity through significant role of oil soluble solvent factor into root canal sealer containing calcium hydroxide.
Eighty two of extracted bovine mandibular incisors were sectioned transversely through the cementoenamel junction(CEJ) and instrumented to a size minimum-# 110 file at the working length by 5.25 % NaOCl irrigation. The roots in group 1 were received a final irrigation with 10ml of 17% EDTA followed by 10ml of 5.25% NaOCl, group 2, 10ml of 40% citric acid followed by 10ml of 5.25% NaOCl, group 3, 20ml of 5.25% NaOCl, and control group, 20ml distilled water. Canal walls of four roots in each group and control group were examined by SEM(x3000). Calcium hydroxide was placed into all experimental roots except control group. Each root was placed in nalgen bottle containing unbuffered distilled water. The pH level of the medium surrounding tooth was recorded at 0, one hour, and daily for 1week, then 14days, 21days, and 28days using pH electrode. At 1, 3, 7, 14, 21days, and 28days, four roots from each group were split longitudinally and the ratio change was recorded using spectroiluorometer. The results were followings : 1. The smear layer was totally removed from canal walls in group 1 and 2, but was observed in group 3 and control group. 2. The hydroxyl ion diffused more rapidly through radicular dentin when smear layer was removed from canal walls. 3. The hydroxyl ion derived from calcium hydroxide began to diffuse from the root canal to the exterior surface of the root at 1day, and continued to 1-2weeks. 4. The pH level of dentin near the CEJ was not different in all experimental group regardless of presence of smear layer. It is clinically advisable to place calcium hydroxide into root canal for 1-2weeks for the purpose of expectation of diffusion of hydroxyl ion. But, after the placement of calcium hydroxide into root canal, the consequent pH level of external root surface will be futher studied with respect to it's effect on the root and periodontium.

The kinetics of the hydrolysis of indolylacrylophenone derivatives(IA) was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometry in 30% dioxane-$H_2O$ at 25$^{\circ}C$ Rate equations were obtained over a wide pH range. On the basis of rate equation, general base catalysis and Hammett's plot, the mechanism of hydrolysis to the (IA) were proposed: Below pH 3.0, the hydrolysis of (IA) was proportional to hydronium ion concentration, between pH 4.0${\sim}$9.0 neutral water molecule and hydroxide ion were added to carbon-carbon double bond and over pH 10.0 hydrolysis of (IA) was proportional to hydroxide ion concentration.

This study was conducted to develop an analytical technique for determination of chlorite and chlorate concentrations in fresh-cut food and dried fish products by an ion chromatography/conductivity detection method using a hydroxide mobile phase. Deionized water was added to homogenized samples, which were then extracted by ultrasound extraction and centrifuged at high speed (8,500 rpm). Subsequently, a Sep-Pak tC18 cartridge was used to purify the supernatant. Chlorite and chlorate ions were separated using 20 mM KOH solution as the mobile phase and Dionex IonPac AS27 column as the stationary phase. Ethylenediamine was used as sample preservative and dibromoacetate was added to adjust for the disparity in extraction efficiencies between the food samples. The method detection limit) for chlorite and chlorate were estimated to be 0.2 mg/kg and 0.1 mg/kg, respectively, and the coefficient of determination ($r^2$) that denotes the linearity of their calibration curves were correspondingly measured to be 0.9973 and 0.9987. The recovery rate for each ion was 92.1 % and 96.3 %, with relative standard deviations of 7.47 % and 6.18 %, respectively. Although neither chlorite nor chlorate was detected in the food samples, the analytical technique developed in this study may potentially be used in the analysis of disinfected food products.

We present bulk diffusion rates of hydroxide ions in amorphous solid water (ASW) at 135 ~ 160 K. Previous researches showed that the diffusion mechanism of hydroxide is different from one of hydronium ions, and this implies that they have different diffusion rates. In ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chamber, low-energy scattering (LES) was used to measure ion population and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) was conducted for measuring ASW thicknesses. To determine the diffusion rates, a simple model for $H_2O/NaOH/H_2O$ sandwich films was developed using Fick's second law. The measured surface population of hydroxide ions as a function of time was well fitted to the model, and the rates were well agreed to an Arrhenius equation.
