Synthesis and Characterization of Adsorbent for Pb(II)-capture by using Glow Discharge Electrolysis Plasma

  • A novel polyacrylamide grafted hydrous ferric oxide adsorbent composite has been synthesized by using glow discharge electrolysis plasma. To optimize the synthesis conditions, the following parameters were examined in detail: applied power, discharge time, post polymerization temperature, post polymerization time, amount of crosslinking agent and hydrous ferric oxide gel added and so on. The adsorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The removal percentage of the adsorbent in Pb(II) solution was examined and the data obtained showed that the adsorbent composite has a high capacity for lead ion. For the use in wastewater treatment, the thermodynamic and kinetic of Pb(II)-capture were also studied. Results indicated that the adsorption reaction was a spontaneous and an endothermic process, and it seems to be obeyed a pseudo-secondorder rate model. Moreover, the adsorption isotherm of Pb(II)-capture is following the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models.

스티쇼바이트에 고용하는 알루미늄과 수소와의 관계 (Solid-Solution Mechanism of Aluminum and Hydrogen in Stishovite)

  • 본 연구에서는 10∼15 ㎬의 압력, $1000∼1400 ^{\circ}C$의 온도 조건에서 함수 현무암질 물질로부터 합성된 스티쇼바이트의 함수량을 결정하였고, 스티쇼바이트에 고용하는 알루미늄과 수소와의 치환 메커니즘을 고찰하였다. 단결정 스티쇼바이트의 최대 함수량은 $844\pm$44 ppm $H_2$O이며, 수소 고용은 3가이온(주로 알루미늄)에 비례하여 증가하며, 다른 원소들보다 온도에 민감하다. 이러한 결과는 무수광물 중에서 스티쇼바이트는 중요한 함수상임을 시사하며, 하부맨틀로 물을 수송하는 중요한 운반매체 역할을 한다고 판단된다.

Spray Pyrolysis에 의한 Manganese Oxide 입자의 제조 및 전기화학적 특성 (Preparation of Manganese Oxide Powders by Spray Pyrolysis and its Electrochemical Characterization)

  • Spray pyrolysis is a favorable technique to form complex mixed-metal oxide powders with high purity in high temperature region. Manganese oxide powders were prepared by spray pyrolysis from an aqueous solution of $Mn(NO_3)_2$. Powders were formed in the temperature range of 500~$700^{\circ}C$ under the constant pressure of 300torr. All the powders have hydrous forms. When the temperature was increased, the size and the surface area of the particles decreased. An electrochemical capacitors were made with manganese oxide electrodes and KOH electrolyte. With the temperature decreased, capacitors showed high capacitance. Capacitor which was prepared with powders formed in the temperature $500^{\circ}C$ demonstrated specific capacitances as high as 83F/g.

질산납으로부터 제조된 PbO-전구체의 산변태 (PhaseTransformation of PbO-Precursor Prepared from Lead Nitrate)

  • 질산납으로부터 침전법으로 제조된 PbO-전구체의 상변태를 열분석, X-선 회절, 적외선 흡수 및 Raman분광 분석 등을 통하여 조사하였다. 질산납 수용액으로부터 $45^{\circ}C$, pH 9.0의 반응조건에서 PhO-전구체를 제조하였다. 침전물은 hydrous lead oxynitrate와 lead hydroxynitrate의 혼합체이었다. $560^{\circ}C$까지 열처리온도가 증가함에 따라 전구체는 $3Pb(NO_{3})_{2}$ㆍ7PbO를 거쳐 $Pb(NO_{3})_{2}$ㆍ5PbO로 된 후에 PbO(litharge)로 변화되었으며, $560^{\circ}C$이상에서 최종적으로 massicot형의 PbO로 변태되었다.

Morphologies of Aragonite Synthesized from Scallop Shells and Lime Stones by Successive Reaction

  • Aragonite type of precipitated calcium carbonate was synthesized by the successive reaction with hybridization of waste scallop shells with limestone. In the first step, carbonation was performed by using calcined limestone with low brightness, followed by the additional carbonation using calcined-hydrous scallop shells with high brightness. The temperature and the amount ratio of calcined limestone to calcined-hydrous scallop shells were examined as parameters in the experimental conditions. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM. in addition to measurements of brightness index. the specific surface area, and bulk density. The amount ratio of limestone to scallop shell affected not only the brightness but also morphologies of products. The increase in relative amounts of limestone leads to decrease in brightness and bumpy surface of particles. High temperature reaction produces aragonite particles with longer sizes and higher bulk densities. This study has made an attempt to establish the synthesis of aragonite with high brightness and high strength by utilization of waste scallop shells.

  • This paper describes the properties of temperature-viscosity characteristics of hydrous and anhydrous electro-rheological fluids containing starch and titanium particle in silicone oil ER effects arise from electrostatic forces between the starch particles and titanium particles dispersed to the electrically insulating silicone oil induced when electric field is applied ER fluids under electric field control have been found to provide resonable estimates of ER fluid viscosity variation characteristics. Yield shear stress of the ER fluids were measured the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electrlc fields. The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and bob becomes ground(-). The electrie field is applied by high voltage DC power supply. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200 $s^{-1}$ in 2 minutes. The ER fluid's viscosity change is very small and stable at the temperature range of $40^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. Therefore, applications of a new ER fluid to control systems application are suitable.

  • 본 연구에서는 TiCl$_4$를 가수분해 시켜 제조한 비정질의 titanium hydrous gel과 Ba(OH)$_2$.8$H_2O$를 출발물질로 사용하였으며, 반응용매로써 1,4-butanediol과 distilled water를 이용하여 나노 사이즈 BaTiO$_3$분말을 제조하였다. 용매로써 사용된 1,4-butanediol과 distilled water의 부피비에 따라 입자의 크기를 조절할 수 있으며, 습식화학법의 단점이었던 분말의 응집을 최소화 시킬 수 있다. 그리고 22$0^{\circ}C$의 비교적 낮은 반응온도에서 분산성이 우수하고, 입도분포가 좁은 약 50~200nm의 barium titanate 나노 분말을 제조하였다.

Evaluation of dynamic behavior of coagulation-flocculation using hydrous ferric oxide for removal of radioactive nuclides in wastewater

  • Coprecipitation using hydrous ferric oxide (HFO) has been effectively used for the removal of radionuclides from radioactive wastewater. This work studied the dynamic behavior of HFO floc formation during the neutralization of acidic ferric iron in the presence of several radionuclides by using a photometric dispersion analyzer (PDA). Then the coagulation-flocculation system using HFO-anionic poly acrylamide (PAM) composite floc system was evaluated and compared in seawater and distilled water to find the effective condition to remove the target nuclides (Co-60, Mn-54, Sb-125, and Ru-106) present in wastewater generated in the severe accident of nuclear power plant like Fukushima Daiichi case. A ferric iron dosage of 10 ppm for the formation of HFO was suitable in terms of fast formation of HFO flocs without induction time, and maximum total removal yield of radioactivity from the wastewater. The settling time of HFO flocs was reduced by changing them to HFO-PAM composite floc. The optimal dosage of anionic PAM for HFO-anionic PAM floc system was approximately 1-10 ppm. The total removal yield of Mn-54, Co-60, Sb-125, Ru-106 radionuclides by the HFO-anionic PAM coagulation-flocculation system was higher in distilled water than in seawater and was more than 99%.

제주도 현무암에 산출되는 함수광물(금운모와 각섬석): 모달교대작용의 증거 (Hydrous Minerals (Phlogopite and Amphibole) from Basaltic Rocks, Jeju Island: Evidences for Modal Metasomatism)

  • 제주도의 초염기성-염기성 암편을 포획하고 있는 현무암은 조직적으로 일반 반정과 뚜렷하게 구별되는 금운모와 커슈타이트 결정을 산출하고 있다. 금운모와 커슈타이트는 모암인 현무암에서는 비교적 조립질 (2-10 mm)로 산출되며, 금운모는 초염기성 맨틀포획암에서, 커슈타이트는 염기성 반려암질 포획암에서 세립의 입자(1 mm 이하)로 간극을 채우거나, 미세맥으로 혹은 코로나로 뚜렷한 이차조직으로 산출된다. 금운모는 $TiO_2$(4.1-6.9 wt%)와 F(2.8-4.6wt%)가 풍부하고, mg#[=100Mg/(Mg+$Fe^t$) in mols, where $Fe^t$ is total iron]는 88-80으로 매우 높다. 커슈타이트는 높은 $TiO_2$(5.6-6.11 wt%)와 비교적 낮은 mg#(68-64)를 보인다. 금운모와 커슈타이트는 서로 관련된 것은 아니며, 금운모의 형성은 상부맨틀에서 먼저 일어난 사건이고 커슈타이트의 형성은 하부지각에서 나중에 일어난 사건으로 해석된다. 이들 결정들 사이의 mg#와 조직적 특성은 제주도 암석권에서 맨틀의 심부일수록 금운모 부화작용을 경험하였으며, 천부일수록 각섬석 부화작용이 있었음을 지시하고 있다. 현무암에 금운모와 각섬석이 산출된다는 것은 제주도 상부맨틀/하부지각에 K-, Ti-를 함유한 휘발성 성분이 풍부한 멜트/유체가 이동하고 있다는 것에 대한 직접적인 증거가 되며, 제주도 하부 상부맨틀/하부지각도 다양한 모달 교대작용을 경험하였음을 의미한다.
