A novel hyperthermophilic, anaerobic, heterotrophic archaeon, designated strain $NA1^T$, was isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent area (depth, 1,650 m) within the Papua New Guinea-Australia-Canada-Manus (PACMANUS) field. Cells of this strain were motile by means of polar flagella, coccoid-shaped with a diameter of approximately $0.5-1.0{\mu}m$, and occurred as single cells. Optimal temperature, pH, and NaCl concentration for growth were $80^{\circ}C$, 8.5, and 3.5%, respectively. The new isolate was an obligate heterotroph that utilized yeast extract, beef extract, tryptone, peptone, casein, and starch as carbon and energy sources. Elemental sulfur was required for growth and was reduced to hydrogen sulfide. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 52.0 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene indicated that strain $NA1^T$ belongs to the genus Thermococcus, and the organism is most closely related to T. gorgonarius, T. peptonophilus, and T. celer; however, no significant homology was observed among species by DNA-DNA hybridization. Strain $NA1^T$ therefore represents a novel species for which the name Thermococcus onnurineus sp. novo is proposed. The type strain is $NA1^T$ (=KCTC 10859, =JCM 13517).

The synthesis of NaA zeolite membrane on a porous alumina support from clear solution by using hydrothermal reaction was investigated. Effects of reaction temperature, reaction time and seeding for transformation of zeolite A membrane and powder which are produced in the reactor were monitored through X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The transformation process of producing Zeolite A membrane starts from the formation of the compact and continuous membrane on the surface of porous support from clear solution. The large Zeolite A poly-crystal was then farmed through the dissolution process. Finally, the process was advanced from sodalite to amorphous. In case of powder, sodalite is formed in the early stage of reaction because of surrounding space difference between membrane and powder crystal. Discrete surrounding space of powder crystal makes easy to transform to sodalite. From Zeolite A to amorphous through transformed product was rapidly advanced at high temperature while the membrane with somewhat low coverage was obtained at low temperature. A compact and continuous zeolite A membrane was synthesized at $120^{\circ}C$ in 12-hour period.
In this article, pure $m-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ and $t-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ nanocrystals were prepared by an EG-assisted hydrothermal method with regular shapes. A series of controlled experiments showed that the pH value of a mixed solution, the volume ratio of $EG/H_2O$ and the dosage of the doped $Eu^{3+}$ all had an important effect on the sizes and shapes of the final products. Furthermore, the constitutional unit of the products changed from 0D to 2D with an increase in the EG dosage. The PL results showed that $t-LaVO_4$ doped with $Eu^{3+}$ ions had better luminescence properties than $m-LaVO_4$ due to its special structure. All of these results not only expand our understanding of the luminescence properties of lanthanide orthovanadates, but they also elucidate the principles of the crystal growth.

ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by aqueous preparation routes of a precipitation and a hydrothermal process. In the processes, the powders were formed by mixing aqueous solutions of Zn-nitrate hexahydrate ($Zn(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$) with NaOH aqueous solution under controlled reaction conditions such as Zn precursor concentration, reaction pH and temperature. Single ZnO phase has been obtained under low Zn precursor concentration, high reaction pH and high temperature. The synthesized particles exhibited flakes (plates), multipods or rods morphologies and the crystallite sizes and shapes would be efficiently controllable by changing the processing parameters. The hydrothermal method showed advantageous features over the precipitation process, allowing the precipitates of single ZnO phase with higher crystallinity at relatively low temperatures below $100^{\circ}C$ under a wider pH range for the Zn precursor concentration of 0.1~1 M.

In this study, we prepared NiCo2O4 nanoparticles with large surface area by hydrothermal synthesis. In order to optimize the processing conditions for spinel NiCo2O4 nanoparticles with large surface area, experimental variables including concentration of Ni and Co precursor, reaction time, and temperature for post-heat treatment were evaluated. Optimized conditions for spinel NiCo2O4 with large surface area were [Ni]/[Co] 1:2 ratio, reaction time for 12 h, and post-heat treatment at 400℃. To investigate the feasibility as potential application for glucose sensor, electrochemical tests of the prepared NiCo2O4 nanoparticles in response to glucose was performed, which suggests that the NiCo2O4 can be suitable for a non-enzymatic-based electrochemical glucose sensor based on its high sensitivity and selectivity for glucose detection.

The crystal growth of calcite at a low temperature range was carried out by the hydrothermal method using amorphous calcium carbonate which has excellent solubility in water. Amorphous calcium carbonate was prepared by the wet chemical reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of $CaCl_2\;and\;Na_2CO_3$. An important factor was the reaction temperature and time taken in preparation of the amorphous calcium carbonate. From the solubility results calculated by the weight loss method, $NH_4NO_3$ solutions were found to be the most promising solvents to grow calcite single crystals. The hydrothermal conditions for high growth rates of calcite single crystals were as follows: starting material: amorphous calcium carbonate, solvent: 0.01 m $NH_4NO_3$, temperature: $180^{\circ}C$, duration: 30 days. And properties of calcite single crystals were follows: dislocation density: $10^6{\sim}10cm^{-2}$, UV-visible transmittance: about 80% from 190 to 400 nm and birefringence: $0.17{\sim}0.18$. Also, it can be known from the FT-IR results that the absorption peak by injection of $HCO_3^-\;and\;OH^-$ ions was not shown.

$TiO_2$ nanoparticles were prepared under high temperature and pressure conditions by precipitation from titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) and titanium isopropoxide (TTIP). $TiO_2$ powders were obtained in the temperature range of $150^{\circ}C{\sim}190^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The microstructure and phase of the synthesized particles were studied by TEM and XRD. TEM and X-ray diffraction pattern shows that the synthesized particles were crystalline. The average sizes of the synthesized particles from titanium tetrachloride and titanium isopropoxide were below 20 nm and 10 nm, respectively. The average size of the synthesized particles increased with increasing reaction temperature. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the reaction temperature and pH value are discussed.

Though the recycling rate of coal fly ash generated from domestic thermoelectric power plants is gradually increased, at present, the most amount of coal bottom ash is disposed by a landfill instead of recycling. Therefore, to reuse a coal bottom ash as high-value materials the synthesis of zeolite made from a coal bottom ash was investigated in this study. NaPl, hydroxy-sodalite and tobermorite were produced through the alkaline hydrothermal reaction of pulvelized bottom ash at various temperatures; 80, 120, $150^{\circ}C$, and the concentration of NaOH at the range from 1 to 5 M. Especially, NaPl with excellent cation exchange capability had a high crystallinity at ${\leq}2$ M NaOH and ${\leq}120^{\circ}C$.

To analyze the cooling performance of fin-tube evaporator in the refrigerator truck using R744 according to frost growth, the analytical model of evaporator was developed under frost and non-frost conditions. The performance of fin-tube evaporator was investigated with frost thickness and indoor temperature. Besides, the performance of evaporator under frost condition was compared to that under non-frost condition. As a result, area of air passage and system performance were decreased as the frost thickness increased. The cooling capacity was reduced by 10%, 20%, 30% when the frost thickness was 0.7 mm, 1.1 mm, and 1.6 mm respectively. At these conditions, the block ratio was 31%, 48%, and 71%. In addition, the outlet quality of refrigerant was not over 1 when the frost thickness was 1.6 mm in spite of high indoor air temperature.
