이동하는 소수성 및 친수성 표면에서 액적의 동접촉각 측정 (Measurement of Dynamic Contact Angle of Droplet on Moving Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic Surfaces)

  • This study investigates dynamic wetting behaviors of a water droplet placed on surfaces with different wettability and nano-structures. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties on as-received silicon wafers were prepared by fabricating thin films of hydrophobic polymer and hydrophilic nanoparticles via layer-by-layer coating. Dynamic advancing contact angle of droplets on the prepared surfaces was measured at various moving velocities of triple contact line with a high-speed video camera. As advancing velocity of triple contact line increased, dynamic advancing contact angle on the as-received silicon and hydrophobic surfaces sharply increased up to $80^{\circ}$ in the range of order of mm/sec whereas the SiO2 nanoparticle-coated hydrophilic surface maintained low contact angles of about $30^{\circ}$ and then it gradually increased in the velocity range of order of hundred mm/sec. The improved dynamic wetting ability observed on the nanostructured hydrophilic surface can benefit the performance of various phase-change heat transfer phenomena under forced convective flow.

폴리메틸메타아크릴레이트(PMMA) 필름의 불소화 및 그 표면특성 (Fluorination of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Film and Its Surface Characterization)

  • 본 연구에서는 폴리메틸메타아크릴에이트(polymethylmethacrylate : PMMA) 표면을 친수성으로 개질하기 위하여 불소와 산소의 혼합비율을 변수로 하여 함산소불소화를 실시하였다. 함산소불소화 처리 된 PMMA 표면 및 광투과 특성을 접촉각, 표면자유에너지. X-ray 광전자 분광기(XPS), UV-Vis 분광기를 통하여 분석하였다. 함산소불소화 처리된 PMMA의 표면은 친수화 되어 물 접촉각이 $69^{\circ}$에서 $44^{\circ}$로 감소하였다. 또한 PMMA의 표면자유에너지가 $46\;mN\;m^{-1}$ 에서 $58\;mN\;m^{-1}$로 증가하였다. 이는 함산소불소화를 통한 PMMA표면에 친수성 관능기의 형성으로 기인하였다. 또한, XPS 분석 결과로부터 함산소불소화 처리 시 PMMA 표면에 O/C비율이 증가하였고, 불소 부분압이 증가할수록 친수성을 나타내는 C-OH 결합의 �t량이 6.7%에서 24.8%로 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 함산소불소화 조건(상온, 총압 1 bar, 불소 및 산소 혼합비 5 : 5)에서는 함산소불소화가 PMMA의 광투과 특성에 영향을 주지 않으면서도 그 표면특성이 개선됨을 관찰할 수 있었다. 이 결과로부터 함산소불소화는 PMMA 표면을 친수성으로 개질하는데 효과적인 방법으로 기대된다.

Non-swelling type의 Hydrophilic polyurethane 합성 및 응용에 관한 연구 (Synthesis and Application for Hydrophilic Polyurethane of Non-swelling Type)

  • In this study, hydrophilic polyurethane (PU) was synthesized by one shot process to get good non-swelling effect and to keep high breathability using reactive silicone oil of mono terminal and bi-terminal types. We also blended non reactive silicone oil with pure hydrophilic PU to compare non-swelling effect and breathability with hydrophilic PU synthesized by the two types of reactive silicone oils. The hydrophilic films were analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photo electron (XPS) spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), breathability, waterproofness, tensile strength, contact angle and swelling effect. The results showed that the film made by hydrophilic PU which was synthesized with mono terminal type silicone oil provided good non-swelling effect and acceptable moisture permeability due to the modified surface properties.

스테인리스 망의 전기화학 폴리싱(ECP) 조건에 따른 가공 특성 (Machining Characteristics according to Electrochemical Polishing (ECP) Conditions of Stainless Steel Mesh)

  • Stainless steel mesh has been used as a filter in various fields, including domestic, medical, etc. However, the surface before machining may have an adverse effect the product quality and performance because it is not smooth. Especially, adsorbed impurities in the surface result in difficulty in cleaning. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an improved surface quality through electrochemical polishing (ECP). Two electrodes, composed of STS304 (anode) and copper (cathode) underwent machining with two conditions according to polishing time and current density. As the polishing time and current density increase, the surface of curvature decreases, and roughness and material removal rate (MRR) improves. The machined surface roughness and image were obtained through the atomic force microscope (AFM) and stereoscopic microscope. The study also analyzed hydrophilic effect through contact angles. This obtains corrosion resistance, smoothness, hydrophilic property, etc.

  • 본 총설은 소수성 불소수지계 분리막의 표면 개질에 대한 개론으로 다양한 표면 개질 방법 및 그 연구 결과를 중점적으로 서술하였다. PTFE로 대표되는 불소수지계 고분자 분리막은 막 증류, 유수 분리, 기체 분리를 포함한 다양한 막 분리 공정에서 사용되어왔다. PTFE 막은 내화학성, 내열성, 높은 기계적 강도와 같은 뛰어난 물성에도 불구하고 소수성 표면 특성으로 인해 기술 적용의 확장에 제한적이다. 친수성 향상을 위해 습식 화학법, 친수성 고분자 코팅, 플라즈마 처리, 조사, 원자층 증착과 같은 다양한 PTFE 표면 개질 방법을 이용하며 이를 통해 불소수지계 분리막의 응용분야가 확장될 수 있다.

습식 공정법에 의한 바이오칩 용 패터닝 기판 제조 (Fabrication of patterned substrate by wet process for biochip)

  • LPD법을 이용하여 유리 기판 위에 발수/친수 패터닝 기판을 제조하였다. 발수 표면은 거친 표면을 갖는 ZnO 박막을 FAS를 이용한 표면 개질에 의하여 만들어졌고, 친수 표면은 자외선을 조사하여 FAS를 제거함으로써 만들어졌다. Hexagonal ZnO rod는 LPD법에 의하여 ZnO seed 층이 코팅된 유리 기판 위에 수직으로 성장되었다. 침적시간이 증가함에 따라 ZnO rod의 직경과 두께는 증가하였다. 제조된 ZnO 박막의 표면구조, 두께, 결정구조, 투과율과 접촉각은 FE-SEM, XRD, UV-vis와 contact angle meter를 이용하여 측정하였다. $20^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$의 접촉각을 갖는 친수 ZnO 박막은 FAS 표면 처리에 의해 $145^{\circ}{\sim}161^{\circ}$의 접촉각을 갖는 표면으로 바뀌었다. 제조된 발수 표면은 $300\;{\mu}m$, 3 mm의 dot size를 갖는 shadow mask를 이용하여 자외선을 조사하여 패터닝 되었다. 최종적으로 자외선이 조사된 발수 표면은 친수 표면으로 바뀌었다.

  • Normally, deterioration in the concrete structure is due to carbonation and chloride ion attack. Therefore, concrete structure is needed to surface protection for increase durability using impregnant. Impregnant classify into two large groups in polymeric and silicate materials. Silicate impregnant is included silicate and alkali silicate(sodium and lithium silicate). Thus, this study is concerned with self cleaning hydrophilic property of concrete structure using silicate impregnant. From the experimental test result, TEOS and lithium silicate make good use of hydrophilic impregnant.

컴퓨터 영상을 이용한 오염방지 친수성능 측정 시스템 개발 (Development of Hydrophilic Performance Measurement System for Anti-Condensation Using Computer Image)

  • Surface energy is the principal factor of anti-condensation. High surface energy appears hydrophilic itself and low surface energy represents hydrophobic itself. The contact angle is widely being used for measurement of surface energy of materials, evaluation of coating performances, measurement of wettability, and so on. However, the existing contact angle measuring system is so expensive for purchasing and complicated, so it takes a lot of time and money to use. This study was conducted to develop the algorithm for evaluating hydrophilic performance through measuring the contact angle of water droplet automatically, and fabricate relatively simple measuring system using a low-cost monochrome camera and image processing. A constant amount of water was firstly allocated on a slide by a micropipette, and then the image of water droplet was captured by monochrome digital camera and sent to a computer. The image was binarized and then reduced noises by labeling. Finally, the contact angle of water droplet was computed by using three points (left, right, and top coordinates), simple linear mathematics, and trigonometric function. The experimental results demonstrated the accuracy and reproducibility of the developed system showing less deviations and deviation ratio.

Highly Stable Photoluminescent and Magnetic Multilayers Using Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction in Organic Media

  • We introduce a novel and efficient strategy for producing free-standing functional films via photo-crosslinking and electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly, which can allow the buildup of hydrophilic multilayers onto hydrophobic surfaces. Hydrophobic multilayers were deposited on ionic substrates by a photo-crosslinking LbL process using photo-crosslinkable polymers. The photo-crosslinked surface was converted to an anionic surface by excess UV light irradiation. This treatment allowed also the stable adhesion between metal electrode or cationic polyelectrolyte and hydrophobic multilayers. After dissolving the ionic substrates in water, the formed free-standing films exhibited unique functionalities of inserted components within hydrophobic and/or hydrophilic multilayers.

플라즈마 에칭공정에 따른 산화물 박막의 광촉매 표면 특성 (Photocatalyst Surface Properties of the Oxide Thin Films According to the Plasma Etching Process)

  • $WO_3$, $SiO_2$, and $TiO_2$ films with hydrophilic property are deposited by rf-magnetron sputtering. Their wettability is strongly depends on the presence or absence of the oxygen plasma etching on the glass substrates. The $TiO_2$ film of 50 nm-thick on the plasma etched glass shows a water contact angle (WCA) below $5^{\circ}$ which means a super-hydrophilic surface. However, WCA values are gradually degraded when the films are exposed under atmosphere, especially $WO_3$. In order to improve hydrophilic property, the degraded films can be again recovered by UV illumination for 10 sec using UV-light and the $TiO_2$ film shows a super-hydrophilic surface about $3^{\circ}$.
